Dwvqu rwKY Twik rhwey ] (1343-1)
Dhaavat raakhai thaak rahaa-ay.
The wandering mind is restrained and held in its place.

scw nwmu mMin vswey ]4] (1343-1)
sachaa naam man vasaa-ay. ||4||
The True Name is enshrined in the mind. ||4||

ibsm ibnod rhy prmwdI ] (1343-1)
bisam binod rahay parmaadee.
The exciting and intoxicating worldly plays come to an end,

gurmiq mwinAw eyk ilv lwgI ] (1343-1)
gurmat maani-aa ayk liv laagee.
for those who accept the Guru's Teachings, and become lovingly attuned to the One Lord.

dyiK invwirAw jl mih AwgI ] (1343-2)
daykh nivaari-aa jal meh aagee.
Seeing this, the fire in the water is extinguished.

so bUJY hovY vfBwgI ]5] (1343-2)
so boojhai hovai vadbhaagee. ||5||
They alone realize this, who are blessed by great good fortune. ||5||

siqguru syvy Brmu cukwey ] (1343-2)
satgur sayvay bharam chukaa-ay.
Serving the True Guru, doubt is dispelled.

Anidnu jwgY sic ilv lwey ] (1343-3)
an-din jaagai sach liv laa-ay.
Those who are lovingly attuned to the True Lord remain awake and aware night and day.

eyko jwxY Avru n koie ] (1343-3)
ayko jaanai avar na ko-ay.
They know the One Lord, and no other.

suKdwqw syvy inrmlu hoie ]6] (1343-3)
sukh-daata sayvay nirmal ho-ay. ||6||
Serving the Giver of peace, they become immaculate. ||6||

syvw suriq sbid vIcwir ] (1343-4)
sayvaa surat sabad veechaar.
Selfless service and intuitive awareness come by reflecting upon the Word of the Shabad.

jpu qpu sMjmu haumY mwir ] (1343-4)
jap tap sanjam ha-umai maar.
Chanting, intensive meditation and austere self-discipline come by subduing the ego.

jIvn mukqu jw sbdu suxwey ] (1343-4)
jeevan mukat jaa sabad sunaa-ay.
One becomes Jivan-mukta - liberated while yet alive, by listening to the Shabad.

sachee rahat sachaa sukh paa-ay. ||7||
Living a truthful way of life, one finds true peace. ||7||

suKdwqw duKu mytxhwrw ] (1343-5)
sukh-daata dukh maytanhaaraa.
The Giver of peace is the Eradicator of pain.

Avru n sUJis bIjI kwrw ] (1343-5)
avar na soojhas beejee kaaraa.
I cannot conceive of serving any other.

qnu mnu Dnu hir AwgY rwiKAw ] (1343-5)
tan man Dhan har aagai raakhi-aa.
I place my body, mind and wealth in offering before Him.

nwnku khY mhw rsu cwiKAw ]8]2] (1343-6)
naanak kahai mahaa ras chaakhi-aa. ||8||2||
Says Nanak, I have tasted the supreme, sublime Essence of the Lord. ||8||2||

parbhaatee mehlaa 1.
Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

invlI krm BuAMgm BwTI ryck pUrk kuMB krY ] (1343-6)
nivlee karam bhu-angam bhaathee raychak poorak kumbh karai.
You may perform exercises of inner purification, and fire up the furnace of the Kundalini, inhaling and exhaling and holding the breath.

ibnu siqgur ikCu soJI nwhI Brmy BUlw bUif mrY ] (1343-7)
bin satgur kichh sojhee naahee bharmay bhoolaa bood marai.
Without the True Guru, you will not understand; deluded by doubt, you shall drown and die.

AMDw BirAw Bir Bir DovY AMqr kI mlu kdy n lhY ] (1343-7)
anDhaa bhari-aa bhar bhar Dhovai antar kee mal kaday na lahai.
The spiritually blind are filled with filth and pollution; they may wash, but the filth within shall never depart.

nwm ibnw Pokt siB krmw ijau bwjIgru Brim BulY ]1] (1343-8)
naam binaa fokat sabh karmaa ji-o baajeegar bharam bhulai. ||1||
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all their actions are useless, like the magician who deceives through illuions. ||1||

Ktu krm nwmu inrMjnu soeI ] (1343-9)
khat karam naam niranjan so-ee.
The merits of the six religious rituals are obtained through the Immaculate Naam.

qU gux swgru Avgux mohI ]1] rhwau ] (1343-9)
too gun saagar avgun mohee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You, O Lord, are the Ocean of virtue; I am so unworthy. ||1||Pause||

mwieAw DMDw DwvxI durmiq kwr ibkwr ] (1343-9)
maa-i-aa DhanDhaa Dhaavnee durmat kaar bikaar.
Running around chasing the entanglements of Maya is an evil-minded act of corruption.

mUrKu Awpu gxwiedw bUiJ n skY kwr ] (1343-10)
moorakh aap ganaa-idaa boojh na sakai kaar.
The fool makes a show of his self-conceit; he does not know how to behave.

mnsw mwieAw mohxI mnmuK bol KuAwr ] (1343-10)
mansaa maa-i-aa mohnee manmukh bol khu-aar.
The self-willed manmukh is enticed by his desires for Maya; his words are useless and empty.

mjnu JUTw cMfwl kw Pokt cwr sINgwr ]2] (1343-11)
majan jhoothaa chandaal kaa fokat chaar seeNgaar. ||2||
The ritual cleansings of the sinner are fradulent; his rituals and decorations are useless and empty. ||2||

JUTI mn kI miq hY krxI bwid ibbwdu ] (1343-11)
jhoothee man kee mat hai karnee baad bibaad.
False is the wisdom of the mind; its actions inspire useless disputes.

JUTy ivic AhMkrxu hY Ksm n pwvY swdu ] (1343-12)
jhoothay vich ahankaran hai khasam na paavai saad.
The false are filled with egotism; they do not obtain the sublime taste of their Lord and Master.

ibnu nwvY horu kmwvxw iPkw AwvY swdu ] (1343-12)
bin naavai hor kamaavanaa fikaa aavai saad.
Without the Name, whatever else they do is tasteless and insipid.

dustI sBw ivgucIAY ibKu vwqI jIvx bwid ]3] (1343-13)
dustee sabhaa viguchee-ai bikh vaatee jeevan baad. ||3||
Associating with their enemies, they are plundered and ruined. Their speech is poison, and their lives are useless. ||3||

ey BRim BUly mrhu n koeI ] (1343-13)
ay bharam bhoolay marahu na ko-ee.
Do not be deluded by doubt; do not invite your own death.

siqguru syiv sdw suKu hoeI ] (1343-13)
satgur sayv sadaa sukh ho-ee.
Serve the True Guru, and you shall be at peace forever.

ibnu siqgur mukiq iknY n pweI ] (1343-14)
bin satgur mukat kinai na paa-ee.
Without the True Guru, no one is liberated.

Awvih jWih mrih mir jweI ]4] (1343-14)
aavahi jaaNhi mareh mar jaa-ee. ||4||
They come and go in reincarnation; they die, only to be reborn and die again. ||4||

eyhu srIru hY qRY gux Dwqu ] (1343-14)
ayhu sareer hai tarai gun Dhaat.
This body wanders, caught in the three dispositions.

ies no ivAwpY sog sMqwpu ] (1343-15)
is no vi-aapai sog santaap.
It is afflicted by sorrow and suffering.

so syvhu ijsu mweI n bwpu ] (1343-15)
so sayvhu jis maa-ee na baap.
So serve the One who has no mother or father.

ivchu cUkY iqsnw Aru Awpu ]5] (1343-15)
vichahu chookai tisnaa ar aap. ||5||
Desire and selfishness shall depart from within. ||5||

jh jh dyKw qh qh soeI ] (1343-16)
jah jah daykhaa tah tah so-ee.
Wherever I look, I see Him.

ibnu siqgur Byty mukiq n hoeI ] (1343-16)
bin satgur bhaytay mukat na ho-ee.
Without meeting the True Guru, no one is liberated.

ihrdY scu eyh krxI swru ] (1343-16)
hirdai sach ayh karnee saar.
Enshrine the True One in your heart; this is the most excellent action.

horu sBu pwKMfu pUj KuAwru ]6] (1343-17)
hor sabh pakhand pooj khu-aar. ||6||
All other hypocritical actions and devotions bring only ruin. ||6||

duibDw cUkY qW sbdu pCwxu ] (1343-17)
dubiDhaa chookai taaN sabad pachhaan.
When one is rid of duality, then he realizes the Word of the Shabad.

Gir bwhir eyko kir jwxu ] (1343-17)
ghar baahar ayko kar jaan.
Inside and out, he knows the One Lord.

eyhw miq sbdu hY swru ] (1343-18)
ayhaa mat sabad hai saar.
This is the most Excellent Wisdom of the Shabad.

ivic duibDw mwQY pvY Cwru ]7] (1343-18)
vich dubiDhaa maathai pavai chhaar. ||7||
Ashes fall on the heads of those who are in duality. ||7||

krxI kIriq gurmiq swru ] (1343-18)
karnee keerat gurmat saar.
To praise the Lord through the Guru's Teachings is the most excellent action.

sMq sBw gux igAwnu bIcwru ] (1343-19)
sant sabhaa gun gi-aan beechaar.
In the Society of the Saints, contemplate the Glories of God and His spiritual wisdom.

mnu mwry jIvq mir jwxu ] (1343-19)
man maaray jeevat mar jaan.
Whoever subdues his mind, knows the state of being dead while yet alive.

nwnk ndrI ndir pCwxu ]8]3] (1343-19)
naanak nadree nadar pachhaan. ||8||3||
O Nanak, by His Grace, the Gracious Lord is realized. ||8||3||
