ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭ ਕਰਤਾ ਐਸਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥

Aapé kʰél karé sabʰ karṫaa æsaa boojʰæ ko▫ee. ||3||

The Creator Himself plays all the games; only a few understand this. ||3||

ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਪਰੀਤਾ ॥

Naa▫o parbʰaaṫæ sabaḋ ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ chʰodahu ḋunee pareeṫaa.

Meditate on the Name, and the Word of the Shabad, in the early hours before dawn; leave your worldly entanglements behind.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਜੀਤਾ ॥੪॥੯॥

Paraṇvaṫ Naanak ḋaasan ḋaasaa jag haari▫aa ṫin jeeṫaa. ||4||9||

Prays Nanak, the slave of God’s slaves: the world loses, and he wins. ||4||9||

ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Parbʰaaṫee mėhlaa 1.

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ॥

Man maa▫i▫aa man ḋʰaa▫i▫aa man pankʰee aakaas.

The mind is Maya, the mind is a chaser; the mind is a bird flying across the sky.

ਤਸਕਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

Ṫaskar sabaḋ nivaari▫aa nagar vutʰaa saabaas.

The thieves are overpowered by the Shabad, and then the body-village prospers and celebrates.

ਜਾ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥

Jaa ṫoo raakʰahi raakʰ læhi saabaṫ hovæ raas. ||1||

Lord, when You save someone, he is saved; his capital is safe and sound. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੈ ॥

Æsaa naam raṫan niḋʰ méræ.

Such is my Treasure, the Jewel of the Naam;

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਲਗਉ ਪਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Gurmaṫ ḋėh laga▫o pag ṫéræ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

please bless me with the Guru’s Teachings, so that I may fall at Your Feet. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਭੋਗੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

Man jogee man bʰogee▫aa man moorakʰ gaavaar.

The mind is a Yogi, the mind is a pleasure-seeker; the mind is foolish and ignorant.

ਮਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਗਤਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

Man ḋaaṫaa man mangṫaa man sir gur karṫaar.

The mind is the giver, the mind is the beggar; the mind is the Great Guru, the Creator.

ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

Panch maar sukʰ paa▫i▫aa æsaa barahm veechaar. ||2||

The five thieves are conquered, and peace is attained; such is the contemplative wisdom of God. ||2||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਕਹਉ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

Gʰat gʰat ék vakʰaaṇee▫æ kaha▫o na ḋékʰi▫aa jaa▫é.

The One Lord is said to be in each and every heart, but no one can see Him.

ਖੋਟੋ ਪੂਠੋ ਰਾਲੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

Kʰoto pootʰo raalee▫æ bin naavæ paṫ jaa▫é.

The false are cast upside-down into the womb of reincarnation; without the Name, they lose their honor.

ਜਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

Jaa ṫoo mélėh ṫaa mil rahaaⁿ jaaⁿ ṫéree ho▫é rajaa▫é. ||3||

Those whom You unite, remain united, if it is Your Will. ||3||

ਜਾਤਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹ ਪੂਛੀਐ ਸਚ ਘਰੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਇ ॥

Jaaṫ janam nah poochʰee▫æ sach gʰar lého baṫaa▫é.

God does not ask about social class or birth; you must find your true home.

ਸਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਸਾ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

Saa jaaṫ saa paṫ hæ jéhé karam kamaa▫é.

That is your social class and that is your status - the karma of what you have done.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

Janam maran ḋukʰ kaatee▫æ Naanak chʰootas naa▫é. ||4||10||

The pains of death and rebirth are eradicated; O Nanak! Salvation is in the Lord’s Name. ||4||10||

ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Parbʰaaṫee mėhlaa 1.

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮੂਠੋ ਅੰਧਾ ॥

Jaagaṫ bigsæ mootʰo anḋʰaa.

He is awake, and even happy, but he is being plundered - he is blind!

ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਧੰਧਾ ॥

Gal faahee sir maaré ḋʰanḋʰaa.

The noose is around his neck, and yet, his head is busy with worldly affairs.

ਆਸਾ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

Aasaa aavæ mansaa jaa▫é.

In hope, he comes and in desire, he leaves.

ਉਰਝੀ ਤਾਣੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਇ ॥੧॥

Urjʰee ṫaaṇee kichʰ na basaa▫é. ||1||

The strings of his life are all tangled up; he is utterly helpless. ||1||

ਜਾਗਸਿ ਜੀਵਣ ਜਾਗਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Jaagas jeevaṇ jaagaṇhaaraa.

The Lord of Awareness, the Lord of Life is awake and aware.

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Sukʰ saagar amriṫ bʰandaaraa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

He is the Ocean of peace, the Treasure of Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause||

ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਭੋਂਡੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

Kahi▫o na boojʰæ anḋʰ na soojʰæ bʰoⁿdee kaar kamaa▫ee.

He does not understand what he is told; he is blind - he does not see, and so he does his evil deeds.

ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੨॥

Aapé pareeṫ parém parmésur karmee milæ vadaa▫ee. ||2||

The Transcendent Lord Himself showers His Love and Affection; by His Grace, He bestows glorious greatness. ||2||

ਦਿਨੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਘਟਾਈ ॥

Ḋin ḋin aavæ ṫil ṫil chʰeejæ maa▫i▫aa moh gʰataa▫ee.

With the coming of each and every day, his life is wearing away, bit by bit; but still, his heart is attached to Maya.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਡੋ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਬ ਲਗ ਦੂਜੀ ਰਾਈ ॥੩॥

Bin gur boodo tʰa▫ur na paavæ jab lag ḋoojee raa▫ee. ||3||

Without the Guru, he is drowned, and finds no place of rest, as long as he is caught in duality. ||3||

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜੀਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਮੑਾਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

Ahinis jee▫aa ḋékʰ samĥaalæ sukʰ ḋukʰ purab kamaa▫ee.

Day and night, God watches over and takes care of His living beings; they receive pleasure and pain according to their past actions.

ਕਰਮਹੀਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

Karamheeṇ sach bʰeekʰi▫aa maaⁿgæ Naanak milæ vadaa▫ee. ||4||11||

Nanak, the unfortunate one, begs for the charity of Truth; please bless him with this glory. ||4||11||

ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Parbʰaaṫee mėhlaa 1.

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਮਸਟਿ ਕਰਉ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਜਗਿ ਕਹੀਆ ॥

Masat kara▫o moorakʰ jag kahee▫aa.

If I remain silent, the world calls me a fool.

ਅਧਿਕ ਬਕਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਿਵ ਰਹੀਆ ॥

Aḋʰik baka▫o ṫéree liv rahee▫aa.

If I talk too much, I miss out on Your Love.

ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥

Bʰool chook ṫéræ ḋarbaar.

My mistakes and faults will be judged in Your Court.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਆਚਾਰ ॥੧॥

Naam binaa kæsé aachaar. ||1||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can I maintain good conduct? ||1||

ਐਸੇ ਝੂਠਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

Æsé jʰootʰ mutʰé sansaaraa.

Such is the falsehood which is plundering the world.

ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਮੁਝੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ninḋak ninḋæ mujʰæ pi▫aaraa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

The slanderer slanders me, but even so, I love him. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਸੁ ਨਿੰਦਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Jis ninḋėh so▫ee biḋʰ jaaṇæ.

He alone knows the way, who has been slandered.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥

Gur kæ sabḋé ḋar neesaaṇæ.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he is stamped with the Lord’s Insignia in His Court.

ਕਾਰਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Kaaraṇ naam anṫargaṫ jaaṇæ.

He realizes the Naam, the Cause of all causes, deep within himself.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੨॥

Jis no naḋar karé so▫ee biḋʰ jaaṇæ. ||2||

He alone knows the way, who is blessed by the Lord’s Glance of Grace. ||2||

ਮੈ ਮੈਲੌ ਊਜਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

Mæ mælou oojal sach so▫é.

I am filthy and polluted; the True Lord is Immaculate and Sublime.

ਊਤਮੁ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

Ooṫam aakʰ na oochaa ho▫é.

Calling oneself sublime, one does not become exalted.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਖੂਲੑਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥

Manmukʰ kʰooliĥ mahaa bikʰ kʰaa▫é.

The self-willed Manmukh openly eats the great poison.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਰਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥

Gurmukʰ ho▫é so raachæ naa▫é. ||3||

But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name. ||3||

ਅੰਧੌ ਬੋਲੌ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥

Anḋʰou bolou mugaḋʰ gavaar.

I am blind, deaf, foolish and ignorant,
