ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਕੋ ਧਣੀ ॥

Sukʱ samoohaa bʱog bʱoom sabaa▫ee ko ḋʱaṇee.

Even if one were to enjoy all pleasures, and be master of the entire earth,

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਭੋ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

Naanak habʱo rog mirṫak naam vihooṇi▫aa. ||2||

O Nanak! All of that is just a disease. Without the Naam, he is dead. ||2||

Fifth Mehl:

ਹਿਕਸ ਕੂੰ ਤੂ ਆਹਿ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਭੀ ਹਿਕੁ ਕਰਿ ॥

Hikas kooᴺ ṫoo aahi pachʱaaṇoo bʱee hik kar.

Yearn for the One Lord, and make Him your friend.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸੜੀ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਰਥਾਈ ਲਜੀਵਦੋ ॥੩॥

Naanak aasṛee nibaahi maanukʱ parṫʱaa▫ee lajeevḋo. ||3||

O Nanak! He alone fulfills your hopes; you should feel embarrassed, visiting other places. ||3||

Pa▫oṛee.

Pauree:

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਰਾਇਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਾ ॥

Nihchal ék naaraa▫iṇo har agam agaaḋʱaa.

The One and only Lord is eternal, imperishable, inaccessible and incomprehensible.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ ॥

Nihchal naam niḋʱaan hæ jis simraṫ har laaḋʱaa.

The treasure of the Naam is eternal and imperishable. Meditating in remembrance of Him, the Lord is attained.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵਾਧਾ ॥

Nihchal keerṫan guṇ gobinḋ gurmukʱ gaavaaḋʱaa.

The Kirtan of His Praises is eternal and imperishable; the Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਪੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅਰਾਧਾ ॥

Sach ḋʱaram ṫap nihchalo ḋin ræn araaḋʱaa.

Truth, righteousness, Dharma and intense meditation are eternal and imperishable. Day and night, worship the Lord in adoration.

ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਪੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਾਧਾ ॥

Ḋa▫i▫aa ḋʱaram ṫap nihchalo jis karam likʱaaḋʱaa.

Compassion, righteousness, Dharma and intense meditation are eternal and imperishable; they alone obtain these, who have such preordained destiny.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਟਲੈ ਨ ਟਲਾਧਾ ॥

Nihchal masṫak lékʱ likʱi▫aa so talæ na talaaḋʱaa.

The inscription inscribed upon one’s forehead is eternal and imperishable; it cannot be avoided by avoidance.

ਨਿਹਚਲ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਬਚਨ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧਾ ॥

Nihchal sangaṫ saaḋʱ jan bachan nihchal gur saaḋʱaa.

The Congregation, the Company of the Holy, and the word of the humble, are eternal and imperishable. The Holy Guru is eternal and imperishable.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਾ ॥੧੯॥

Jin ka▫o poorab likʱi▫aa ṫin saḋaa saḋaa aaraaḋʱaa. ||19||

Those who have such preordained destiny worship and adore the Lord, forever and ever. ||19||

Shalok, Dakhanay, Fifth Mehl:

ਜੋ ਡੁਬੰਦੋ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਤਰਾਏ ਕਿਨੑ ਖੇ ॥

Jo dubanḋo aap so ṫaraa▫é kinĥ kʱé.

One who himself has drowned - how can he carry anyone else across?

ਤਾਰੇਦੜੋ ਭੀ ਤਾਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰ ਸਿਉ ਰਤਿਆ ॥੧॥

Ṫaaréḋaṛo bʱee ṫaar Naanak pir si▫o raṫi▫aa. ||1||

One who is imbued with the Love of the Husband Lord - O Nanak! He himself is saved, and he saves others as well. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਜਿਥੈ ਕੋਇ ਕਥੰਨਿ ਨਾਉ ਸੁਣੰਦੋ ਮਾ ਪਿਰੀ ॥

Jiṫʱæ ko▫é kaṫʱann naa▫o suṇanḋo maa piree.

Wherever someone speaks and hears the Name of my Beloved Lord,

ਮੂੰ ਜੁਲਾਊਂ ਤਥਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਸੰਦੋ ਹਰਿਓ ਥੀਓਸਿ ॥੨॥

Mooᴺ julaa▫ooᴺ ṫaṫʱ Naanak piree pasanḋo hari▫o ṫʱee▫os. ||2||

that is where I go, O Nanak! To see Him, and blossom forth in bliss. ||2||

Fifth Mehl:

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸਨੇਹ ॥

Méree méree ki▫aa karahi puṫar kalṫar sanéh.

You are in love with your children and your wife; why do you keep calling them your own?

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ਨਿਮੁਣੀਆਦੀ ਦੇਹ ॥੩॥

Naanak naam vihooṇee▫aa nimuṇee▫aaḋee ḋéh. ||3||

O Nanak! Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the human body has no foundation. ||3||

Pauree:

ਨੈਨੀ ਦੇਖਉ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਥਾ ॥

Nænee ḋékʱ▫a▫u gur ḋarsano gur charṇee maṫʱaa.

With my eyes, I gaze upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru’s Darshan; I touch my forehead to the Guru’s feet.

ਪੈਰੀ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਲਦਾ ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰੀ ਹਥਾ ॥

Pæree maarag gur chalḋaa pakʱaa féree haṫʱaa.

With my feet I walk on the Guru’s Path; with my hands, I wave the fan over Him.

ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਜਪੰਥਾ ॥

Akaal mooraṫ riḋæ ḋʱi▫aa▫iḋaa ḋin ræn japanṫʱaa.

I meditate on Akaal Moorat, the undying form, within my heart; day and night, I meditate on Him.

ਮੈ ਛਡਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਅਪਾਇਣੋ ਭਰਵਾਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥

Mæ chʱadi▫aa sagal apaa▫iṇo bʱarvaasæ gur samraṫʱaa.

I have given up all egoism, and have placed my faith in the all-powerful Guru.

ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਥਾ ॥

Gur bakʱsi▫aa naam niḋʱaan sabʱo ḋukʱ laṫʱaa.

The Guru has blessed me with the treasure of the Naam; I am rid of all sufferings.

ਭੋਗਹੁ ਭੁੰਚਹੁ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਪਲੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਗਥਾ ॥

Bʱogahu bʱunchahu bʱaa▫eeho palæ naam agṫʱaa.

Eat and enjoy the Naam, the Name of the indescribable Lord, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਥਾ ॥

Naam ḋaan isnaan ḋiṛ saḋaa karahu gur kaṫʱaa.

Confirm your faith in the Naam, charity and self-purification; chant the Guru’s sermon forever.

ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਲਥਾ ॥੨੦॥

Sahj bʱa▫i▫aa parabʱ paa▫i▫aa jam kaa bʱa▫o laṫʱaa. ||20||

Blessed with intuitive poise, I have found God; I am rid of the fear of the Messenger of Death. ||20||

ਸਲੋਕ ਡਖਣੇ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok dakʱ▫ṇé mėhlaa 5.

Shalok, Dakhanay, Fifth Mehl:

ਲਗੜੀਆ ਪਿਰੀਅੰਨਿ ਪੇਖੰਦੀਆ ਨਾ ਤਿਪੀਆ ॥

Lagṛee▫aa piree▫ann pékʱanḋee▫aa naa ṫipee▫aa.

I am centered and focused on my Beloved, but I am not satisfied, even by seeing Him.

ਹਭ ਮਝਾਹੂ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਬਿਆ ਨ ਡਿਠੋ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

Habʱ majʱaahoo so ḋʱaṇee bi▫aa na ditʱo ko▫é. ||1||

The Lord and Master is within all; I do not see any other. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਕਥੜੀਆ ਸੰਤਾਹ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਊ ਪੰਧੀਆ ॥

Kaṫʱṛee▫aa sanṫaah ṫé sukʱaa▫oo panḋʱee▫aa.

The sayings of the Saints are the paths of peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧੜੀਆ ਤਿੰਨਾਹ ਜਿਨਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਹੜੈ ॥੨॥

Naanak laḋʱ▫ṛee▫aa ṫinnaah jinaa bʱaag maṫʱaahaṛæ. ||2||

O Nanak! They alone obtain them, upon whose foreheads such destiny is written. ||2||

Fifth Mehl:

ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਜਲਾ ਥਲਾ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਨਾ ਫਲ ਕੰਦਰਾ ॥

Doongar jalaa ṫʱalaa bʱoom banaa fal kanḋraa.

He is totally permeating the mountains, oceans, deserts, lands, forests, orchards, caves,

ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ਆਕਾਸ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਹਭ ਘਟਾ ॥

Paaṫaalaa aakaas pooran habʱ gʱataa.

the nether regions of the underworld, the Akashic ethers of the skies, and all hearts.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਓ ਇਕਤੁ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਤੀਆ ॥੩॥

Naanak pékʱ jee▫o ikaṫ sooṫ paroṫee▫aa. ||3||

Nanak sees that they are all strung on the same thread. ||3||

Pauree:

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ॥

Har jee maaṫaa har jee piṫaa har jee▫o parṫipaalak.

The Dear Lord is my mother, the Dear Lord is my father; the Dear Lord cherishes and nurtures me.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਬਾਲਕ ॥

Har jee méree saar karé ham har ké baalak.

The Dear Lord takes care of me; I am the child of the Lord.

ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਖਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਲਕ ॥

Sėhjé sahj kʱilaa▫iḋaa nahee karḋaa aalak.

Slowly and steadily, He feeds me; He never fails.

ਅਉਗਣੁ ਕੋ ਨ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਗਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਾਇਕ ॥

A▫ugaṇ ko na chiṫaarḋaa gal séṫee laa▫ik.

He does not remind me of my faults; He hugs me close in His embrace.

ਮੁਹਿ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਸੋਈ ਦੇਵਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ॥

Muhi mangaaᴺ so▫ee ḋévḋaa har piṫaa sukʱ▫ḋaa▫ik.

Whatever I ask for, He gives me; the Lord is my peace-giving father.

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਉਪਿਓਨੁ ਇਸੁ ਸਉਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ॥

Gi▫aan raas naam ḋʱan sa▫opi▫on is sa▫uḋé laa▫ik.

He has blessed me with the capital, the wealth of spiritual wisdom; He has made me worthy of this merchandise.
