ਸਬਦੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥

Sabḋé vichahu bʱaram chukaa▫é.

Within the Shabad, doubt is driven out.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੮॥੨੨॥

Naanak naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee naamé hee sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||16||8||22||

O Nanak! He blesses us with His Naam, and through the Naam, peace is found. ||16||8||22||

Maaroo mėhlaa 3.

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥

Agam agochar véparvaahé.

He is inaccessible, unfathomable and self-sustaining.

ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹੇ ॥

Āpé miharvaan agam aṫʱaahé.

He Himself is merciful, inaccessible and unlimited.

ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

Apaṛ ko▫é na sakæ ṫis no gur sabḋee mélaa▫i▫aa. ||1||

No one can reach up to Him; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He is met. ||1||

ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥

Ŧuḋʱuno sévėh jo ṫuḋʱ bʱaavėh.

He alone serves You, who pleases You.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥

Gur kæ sabḋé sach samaavėh.

Through the Guru’s Shabad, he merges in the True Lord.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

An▫ḋin guṇ ravėh ḋin raaṫee rasnaa har ras bʱaa▫i▫aa. ||2||

Night and day, he chants the Lord’s Praises, day and night; his tongue savors and delights in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ॥

Sabaḋ marėh sé maraṇ savaarėh.

Those who die in the Shabad - their death is exalted and glorified.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਹਿ ॥

Har ké guṇ hirḋæ ur ḋʱaarėh.

They enshrine the Lord’s Glories in their hearts.

ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

Janam safal har charṇee laagé ḋoojaa bʱaa▫o chukaa▫i▫aa. ||3||

Holding tight to the Guru’s feet, their lives become prosperous, and they are rid of the love of duality. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Har jee▫o mélé aap milaa▫é.

The Dear Lord unites them in Union with Himself.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

Gur kæ sabḋé aap gavaa▫é.

Through the Guru’s Shabad, self-conceit is dispelled.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

An▫ḋin saḋaa har bʱagṫee raaṫé is jag mėh laahaa paa▫i▫aa. ||4||

Those who remain attuned to devotional worship to the Lord, night and day, earn the profit in this world. ||4||

ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

Ŧéré guṇ kahaa mæ kahaṇ na jaa▫ee.

What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I describe? I cannot describe them.

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

Anṫ na paaraa keemaṫ nahee paa▫ee.

You have no end or limitation. Your value cannot be estimated.

ਆਪੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥

Āpé ḋa▫i▫aa karé sukʱ▫ḋaaṫa guṇ mėh guṇee samaa▫i▫aa. ||5||

When the Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, the virtuous are absorbed in virtue. ||5||

ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

Is jag mėh moh hæ paasaaraa.

In this world, emotional attachment is spread all over.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥

Manmukʱ agi▫aanee anḋʱ anḋʱaaraa.

The ignorant, self-willed Manmukh is immersed in utter darkness.

ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥

Ḋʱanḋʱæ ḋʱaavaṫ janam gavaa▫i▫aa bin naavæ ḋukʱ paa▫i▫aa. ||6||

Chasing after worldly affairs, he wastes away his life in vain; without the Name, he suffers in pain. ||6||

ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Karam hovæ ṫaa saṫgur paa▫é.

If God grants His Grace, then one finds the True Guru.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥

Ha▫umæ mæl sabaḋ jalaa▫é.

Through the Shabad, the filth of egotism is burned away.

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੭॥

Man nirmal gi▫aan raṫan chaanaṇ agi▫aan anḋʱér gavaa▫i▫aa. ||7||

The mind becomes immaculate, and the jewel of spiritual wisdom brings enlightenment; the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||7||

ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

Ŧéré naam anék keemaṫ nahee paa▫ee.

Your Names are countless; Your value cannot be estimated.

ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥

Sach naam har hirḋæ vasaa▫ee.

I enshrine the Lord’s True Name within my heart.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੮॥

Keemaṫ ka▫uṇ karé parabʱ ṫéree ṫoo aapé sahj samaa▫i▫aa. ||8||

Who can estimate Your value, God? You are immersed and absorbed in Yourself. ||8||

ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Naam amolak agam apaaraa.

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Naa ko ho▫aa ṫolaṇhaaraa.

No one can weigh it.

ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੯॥

Āpé ṫolé ṫol ṫolaa▫é gur sabḋee mél ṫolaa▫i▫aa. ||9||

You Yourself weigh, and estimate all; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, You unite, when the weight is perfect. ||9||

ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

Sévak sévėh karahi arḋaas.

Your servant serves, and offers this prayer.

ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਬਹਾਲਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

Ŧoo aapé mél bahaalėh paas.

Please, let me sit near You, and unite me with Yourself.

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥

Sabʱnaa jee▫aa kaa sukʱ▫ḋaaṫa pooræ karam ḋʱi▫aa▫i▫aa. ||10||

You are the Giver of peace to all beings; by perfect karma, we meditate on You. ||10||

ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

Jaṫ saṫ sanjam jė sach kamaavæ.

Chastity, truth and self-control come by practicing and living the Truth.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

Ih man nirmal jė har guṇ gaavæ.

This mind becomes immaculate and pure, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਇਸੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥

Is bikʱ mėh amriṫ paraapaṫ hovæ har jee▫o méré bʱaa▫i▫aa. ||11||

In this world of poison, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained, if it pleases my Dear Lord. ||11||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

Jis no bujʱaa▫é so▫ee boojʱæ.

He alone understands, whom God inspires to understand.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

Har guṇ gaavæ anḋar soojʱæ.

Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, one’s inner being is awakened.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥

Ha▫umæ méraa tʱaak rahaa▫é sėhjé hee sach paa▫i▫aa. ||12||

Egotism and possessiveness are silenced and subdued, and one intuitively finds the True Lord. ||12||

ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥

Bin karmaa hor firæ gʱanéree.

Without good karma, countless others wander around.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥

Mar mar jammæ chukæ na féree.

They die, and die again, only to be reborn; they cannot escape the cycle of reincarnation.

ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥

Bikʱ kaa raaṫaa bikʱ kamaavæ sukʱ na kabhoo paa▫i▫aa. ||13||

Imbued with poison, they practice poison and corruption, and they never find peace. ||13||

ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥

Bahuṫé bʱékʱ karé bʱékʱ▫ḋʱaaree.

Many disguise themselves with religious robes.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮਾਰੀ ॥

Bin sabḋæ ha▫umæ kinæ na maaree.

Without the Shabad, no one has conquered egotism.

ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥

Jeevaṫ maræ ṫaa mukaṫ paa▫é sachæ naa▫é samaa▫i▫aa. ||14||

One who remains dead while still alive is liberated, and merges in the True Name. ||14||

ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥

Agi▫aan ṫarisnaa is ṫanėh jalaa▫é.

Spiritual ignorance and desire burn this human body.

ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

Ŧis ḋee boojʱæ jė gur sabaḋ kamaa▫é.

He alone puts out this fire, who practices and lives the Guru’s Shabad.
