ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥

Ŧan man seeṫal kroḋʱ nivaaré ha▫umæ maar samaa▫i▫aa. ||15||

His body and mind are cooled and soothed, and his anger is silenced; conquering egotism, he merges into the Lord. ||15||

ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

Sachaa saahib sachee vadi▫aa▫ee.

True is the Lord and Master, and True is His glorious greatness.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥

Gur parsaadee virlæ paa▫ee.

By Guru’s Grace, a rare few attain this.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੨੩॥

Naanak ék kahæ bénanṫee naamé naam samaa▫i▫aa. ||16||1||23||

Nanak offers this one prayer: through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, may I merge in the Lord. ||16||1||23||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਨਦਰੀ ਭਗਤਾ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Naḋree bʱagṫaa læhu milaa▫é.

By Your Grace, please unite with Your devotees.

ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

Bʱagaṫ salaahan saḋaa liv laa▫é.

Your devotees ever praise You, lovingly focusing on You.

ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

Ŧa▫o sarṇaa▫ee ubrahi karṫé aapé mél milaa▫i▫aa. ||1||

In Your Sanctuary, they are saved, O Creator Lord; You unite them in Union with Yourself. ||1||

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥

Pooræ sabaḋ bʱagaṫ suhaa▫ee.

Sublime and exalted is devotion to the Perfect Word of the Shabad.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥

Anṫar sukʱ ṫéræ man bʱaa▫ee.

Peace prevails within; they are pleasing to Your Mind.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

Man ṫan sachee bʱagṫee raaṫaa saché si▫o chiṫ laa▫i▫aa. ||2||

One whose mind and body are imbued with true devotion, focuses his consciousness on the True Lord. ||2||

ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਦ ਜਲੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥

Ha▫umæ vich saḋ jalæ sareeraa.

In egotism, the body is forever burning.

ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

Karam hovæ bʱété gur pooraa.

When God grants His Grace, one meets the Perfect Guru.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

Anṫar agi▫aan sabaḋ bujʱaa▫é saṫgur ṫé sukʱ paa▫i▫aa. ||3||

The Shabad dispels the spiritual ignorance within, and through the True Guru, one finds peace. ||3||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

Manmukʱ anḋʱaa anḋʱ kamaa▫é.

The blind, self-willed Manmukh acts blindly.

ਬਹੁ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥

Baho sankat jonee bʱarmaa▫é.

He is in terrible trouble, and wanders in reincarnation.

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅੰਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

Jam kaa jévṛaa kaḋé na kaatæ anṫé baho ḋukʱ paa▫i▫aa. ||4||

He can never snap the noose of Death, and in the end, he suffers in horrible pain. ||4||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥

Āvaṇ jaaṇaa sabaḋ nivaaré.

Through the Shabad, one’s comings and goings in reincarnation are ended.

ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

Sach naam rakʱæ ur ḋʱaaré.

He keeps the True Name enshrined within his heart.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥

Gur kæ sabaḋ maræ man maaré ha▫umæ jaa▫é samaa▫i▫aa. ||5||

He dies (mentally indulges) in the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and conquers his mind; his egotism gets removed and he merges into the Lord. ||5||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥

Āvaṇ jaaṇæ paraj vigo▫ee.

Coming and going, the people of the world are wasting away.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Bin saṫgur ṫʱir ko▫é na ho▫ee.

Without the True Guru, no one finds permanence and stability.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੬॥

Anṫar joṫ sabaḋ sukʱ vasi▫aa joṫee joṫ milaa▫i▫aa. ||6||

The Shabad shines its Light deep within the self, and one dwells in peace; one’s light merges into the Light. ||6||

ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥

Panch ḋooṫ chiṫvahi vikaaraa.

The five demons think of evil and corruption.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa moh kaa éhu pasaaraa.

The expanse is the manifestation of emotional attachment to Maya.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੭॥

Saṫgur sévé ṫaa mukaṫ hovæ panch ḋooṫ vas aa▫i▫aa. ||7||

Serving the True Guru, one is liberated, and the five demons are put under his control. ||7||

ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥

Baajʱ guroo hæ moh gubaaraa.

Without the Guru, there is only the darkness of attachment.

ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡੁਬੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥

Fir fir dubæ vaaro vaaraa.

Over and over, time and time again, they are drowned.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੮॥

Saṫgur bʱété sach driṛ▫aa▫é sach naam man bʱaa▫i▫aa. ||8||

Meeting the True Guru, Truth is implanted within, and the True Name becomes pleasing to the mind. ||8||

ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਵਾਰਾ ॥

Saachaa ḋar saachaa ḋarvaaraa.

True is His Door, and True is His Court, His Royal Darbaar.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

Saché sévėh sabaḋ pi▫aaraa.

The true ones serve Him, through the Beloved Word of the Shabad.

ਸਚੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥

Sachee ḋʱun saché guṇ gaavaa saché maahi samaa▫i▫aa. ||9||

Singing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, in the true melody, I am immersed and absorbed in Truth. ||9||

ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੋ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Gʱaræ anḋar ko gʱar paa▫é.

Deep within the home of the self, one finds the home of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥

Gur kæ sabḋé sahj subʱaa▫é.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one easily, intuitively finds it.

ਓਥੈ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥

Oṫʱæ sog vijog na vi▫aapæ sėhjé sahj samaa▫i▫aa. ||10||

There, one is not afflicted with sorrow or separation; merge into the Celestial Lord with intuitive ease. ||10||

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

Ḏoojæ bʱaa▫é ḋustaa kaa vaasaa.

The evil people live in the love of duality.

ਭਉਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥

Bʱa▫uḋé firėh baho moh pi▫aasaa.

They wander around, totally attached and thirsty.

ਕੁਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥

Kusangaṫ bahėh saḋaa ḋukʱ paavahi ḋukʱo ḋukʱ kamaa▫i▫aa. ||11||

They sit in evil gatherings, and suffer with pain forever; they earn pain, nothing but pain. ||11||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Saṫgur baajʱahu sangaṫ na ho▫ee.

Without the True Guru, there is no Sangat, no Congregation.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥

Bin sabḋé paar na paa▫é ko▫ee.

Without the Shabad, no one can cross over to the other side.

ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥

Sėhjé guṇ ravėh ḋin raaṫee joṫee joṫ milaa▫i▫aa. ||12||

One who intuitively chants God’s Glorious Praises day and night - his light merges into the Light. ||12||

ਕਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa birakʱ pankʱee vich vaasaa.

The body is the tree; the bird of the soul dwells within it.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥

Amriṫ chugėh gur sabaḋ nivaasaa.

It drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, resting in the Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

ਉਡਹਿ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥

Uḋėh na moolé na aavahi na jaahee nij gʱar vaasaa paa▫i▫aa. ||13||

It never flies away, and it does not come or go; it dwells within the home of its own self. ||13||

ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa soḋʱėh sabaḋ vichaarėh.

Purify the body, and contemplate the Shabad.

ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ॥

Moh tʱag▫uree bʱaram nivaarėh.

Remove the poisonous drug of emotional attachment, and eradicate doubt.

ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥

Āpé kirpaa karé sukʱ▫ḋaaṫa aapé mél milaa▫i▫aa. ||14||

The Giver of peace Himself bestows His Mercy, and unites us in Union with Himself. ||14||

ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨੇੜੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥

Saḋ hee néṛæ ḋoor na jaaṇhu.

He is always near at hand; He is never far away.
