ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

Nirankaar aakaar upaa▫i▫aa.

The Formless Lord created the universe of form.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa moh hukam baṇaa▫i▫aa.

By the Hukam of His Command, He created attachment to Maya.

ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

Āpé kʱél karé sabʱ karṫaa suṇ saachaa man vasaa▫iḋaa. ||1||

The Creator Himself stages all the plays; hearing of the True Lord, enshrine Him in your mind. ||1||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਸੂਤਿ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa maa▫ee ṫaræ guṇ parsooṫ jamaa▫i▫aa.

Maya, the mother, gave birth to the three gunas, the three qualities,

ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਨੋ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥

Chaaré béḋ barahmé no furmaa▫i▫aa.

and proclaimed the four Vedas to Brahma.

ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਮਾਹ ਵਾਰ ਥਿਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

varĥé maah vaar ṫʱiṫee kar is jag mėh sojʱee paa▫iḋaa. ||2||

Creating the years, months, days and dates, He infused intelligence into the world. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰ ॥

Gur sévaa ṫé karṇee saar.

Service to the Guru is the most excellent action.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰ ॥

Raam naam raakʱo ur ḋʱaar.

Enshrine the Lord’s Name within your heart.

ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਇਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥

Gurbaaṇee varṫee jag anṫar is baṇee ṫé har naam paa▫iḋaa. ||3||

The Word of the Guru’s Bani prevails throughout the world; through this Bani, the Lord’s Name is obtained. ||3||

ਵੇਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਵਾਦ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

véḋ paṛæ an▫ḋin vaaḋ samaalé.

He reads the Vedas, but he starts arguments night and day.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਧਾ ਜਮਕਾਲੇ ॥

Naam na chéṫæ baḋʱaa jamkaalé.

He does not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he is bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥

Ḏoojæ bʱaa▫é saḋaa ḋukʱ paa▫é ṫaræ guṇ bʱaram bʱulaa▫iḋaa. ||4||

In the love of duality, he suffers in pain forever; he is deluded by doubt, and confused by the three gunas. ||4||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

Gurmukʱ ékas si▫o liv laa▫é.

The Gurmukh is in love with the One Lord alone;

ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

Ŧaribaḋʱ mansaa manėh samaa▫é.

he submerges in his mind the three-phased desire.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

Saachæ sabaḋ saḋaa hæ mukṫaa maa▫i▫aa moh chukaa▫iḋaa. ||5||

Through the True Word of the Shabad, he is liberated forever; he renounces emotional attachment to Maya. ||5||

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੇ ਹੁਣਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥

Jo ḋʱur raaṫé sé huṇ raaṫé.

Those who are so preordained to be imbued, are imbued with love for the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ॥

Gur parsaadee sėhjé maaṫé.

By Guru’s Grace, they are intuitively intoxicated.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

Saṫgur sév saḋaa parabʱ paa▫i▫aa aapæ aap milaa▫iḋaa. ||6||

Serving the True Guru forever, they find God; He Himself unites them with Himself. ||6||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa mohi bʱaram na paa▫é.

In attachment to Maya and doubt, the Lord is not found.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Ḏoojæ bʱaa▫é lagaa ḋukʱ paa▫é.

Attached to the love of duality, one suffers in pain.

ਸੂਹਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਾਦੇ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

Soohaa rang ḋin ṫʱoṛé hovæ is jaaḋé bilam na laa▫iḋaa. ||7||

The crimson color lasts for only a few days; all too soon, it fades away. ||7||

ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥

Ėhu man bʱæ bʱaa▫é rangaa▫é.

So, color this mind in the Fear and the Love of God.

ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

Iṫ rang saaché maahi samaa▫é.

Dyed in this color, one merges in the True Lord.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

Pooræ bʱaag ko ih rang paa▫é gurmaṫee rang chaṛaa▫iḋaa. ||8||

By perfect destiny, some may obtain this color. Through the Guru’s Teachings, this color is applied. ||8||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

Manmukʱ bahuṫ karé abʱimaan.

The self-willed Manmukhs take great pride in themselves.

ਦਰਗਹ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

Ḏargėh kab hee na paavæ maan.

In the Court of the Lord, they are never honored.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

Ḏoojæ laagé janam gavaa▫i▫aa bin boojʱé ḋukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||9||

Attached to duality, they waste their lives; without understanding, they suffer with pain. ||9||

ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

Méræ parabʱ anḋar aap lukaa▫i▫aa.

My God has hidden Himself deep within the self.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥

Gur parsaadee har milæ milaa▫i▫aa.

By Guru’s Grace, one is united in the Lord’s Union.

ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

Sachaa parabʱ sachaa vaapaaraa naam amolak paa▫iḋaa. ||10||

God is True, and True is His trade, through which the priceless Naam is obtained. ||10||

ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

Is kaa▫i▫aa kee keemaṫ kinæ na paa▫ee.

No one has found this body’s value.

ਮੇਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਇਹ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥

Méræ tʱaakur ih baṇaṫ baṇaa▫ee.

My Lord and Master has worked His handiwork.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧੈ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

Gurmukʱ hovæ so kaa▫i▫aa soḋʱæ aapėh aap milaa▫iḋaa. ||11||

One who becomes Gurmukh purifies his body, and then the Lord unites him with Himself. ||11||

ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੋਟਾ ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa vich ṫotaa kaa▫i▫aa vich laahaa.

Within the body, one loses, and within the body, one wins.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥

Gurmukʱ kʱojé véparvaahaa.

The Gurmukh seeks the self-sustaining Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Gurmukʱ vaṇaj saḋaa sukʱ paa▫é sėhjé sahj milaa▫iḋaa. ||12||

The Gurmukh trades, and finds peace forever; he intuitively merges in the Celestial Lord. ||12||

ਸਚਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਚੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

Sachaa mahal saché bʱandaaraa.

True is the Lord’s Mansion, and True is His treasure.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Āpé ḋévæ ḋévaṇhaaraa.

The Great Giver Himself gives.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

Gurmukʱ saalaahé sukʱ▫ḋaaṫé man mélé keemaṫ paa▫iḋaa. ||13||

The Gurmukh praises the Giver of peace; his mind is united with the Lord, and he comes to know His worth. ||13||

ਕਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa vich vasaṫ keemaṫ nahee paa▫ee.

Within the body is the object; its value cannot be estimated.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

Gurmukʱ aapé ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee.

He Himself grants glorious greatness to the Gurmukh.

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹਟੁ ਸੋਈ ਵਥੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

Jis ḋaa hat so▫ee vaṫʱ jaaṇæ gurmukʱ ḋé▫é na pachʱoṫaa▫iḋaa. ||14||

He alone knows this object, to whom this store belongs; the Gurmukh is blessed with it, and does not come to regret. ||14||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

Har jee▫o sabʱ mėh rahi▫aa samaa▫ee.

The Dear Lord is pervading and permeating all.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥

Gur parsaadee paa▫i▫aa jaa▫ee.

By Guru’s Grace, He is found.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

Āpé mél milaa▫é aapé sabḋé sahj samaa▫iḋaa. ||15||

He Himself unites in His Union; through the Word of the Shabad, one intuitively merges with Him. ||15||

ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Āpé sachaa sabaḋ milaa▫é.

The True Lord Himself unites us in the Word of His Shabad.
