ਹਿਰਦੈ ਆਇ ਵੁਠਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥

Hirḋæ aa▫é vutʱaa govinḋaa.

The Lord of the Universe comes to dwell within the heart.

ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥

Sėhjé bʱagaṫ karé ḋin raaṫee aapé bʱagaṫ karaa▫iḋaa. ||4||

He intuitively practices devotional worship day and night; God Himself practices devotional worship. ||4||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Saṫgur ṫé vichʱuṛé ṫinee ḋukʱ paa▫i▫aa.

Those who are separated from the True Guru, suffer in misery.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥

An▫ḋin maaree▫ah ḋukʱ sabaa▫i▫aa.

Night and day, they are punished, and they suffer in total agony.

ਮਥੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

Maṫʱé kaalé mahal na paavahi ḋukʱ hee vich ḋukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||5||

Their faces are blackened, and they do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. They suffer in sorrow and agony. ||5||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥

Saṫgur sévėh sé vadbʱaagee.

Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.

ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

Sahj bʱaa▫é sachee liv laagee.

They intuitively enshrine love for the True Lord.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

Sacho sach kamaavėh saḋ hee sachæ mél milaa▫iḋaa. ||6||

They practice Truth, forever Truth; they are united in Union with the True Lord. ||6||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Jis no sachaa ḋé▫é so paa▫é.

He alone obtains the Truth, unto whom the True Lord gives it.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥

Anṫar saach bʱaram chukaa▫é.

His inner being is filled with Truth, and his doubt is dispelled.

ਸਚੁ ਸਚੈ ਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

Sach sachæ kaa aapé ḋaaṫaa jis ḋévæ so sach paa▫iḋaa. ||7||

The True Lord Himself is the Giver of Truth; he alone obtains the Truth, unto whom He gives it. ||7||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

Āpé karṫaa sabʱnaa kaa so▫ee.

He Himself is the Creator of all.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

Jis no aap bujʱaa▫é boojʱæ ko▫ee.

Only one whom He instructs, understands Him.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

Āpé bakʱsé ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee aapé mél milaa▫iḋaa. ||8||

He Himself forgives, and grants glorious greatness. He himself unites in His Union. ||8||

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

Ha▫umæ karḋi▫aa janam gavaa▫i▫aa.

Acting egotistically, one loses his life.

ਆਗੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

Āgæ moh na chookæ maa▫i▫aa.

Even in the world hereafter, emotional attachment to Maya does not leave him.

ਅਗੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਲ ਘਾਣੀ ਪੀੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

Agæ jamkaal lékʱaa lévæ ji▫o ṫil gʱaaṇee peeṛaa▫iḋaa. ||9||

In the world hereafter, the Messenger of Death calls him to account, and crushes him like sesame seeds in the oil-press. ||9||

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

Pooræ bʱaag gur sévaa ho▫ee.

By perfect destiny, one serves the Guru.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੋਈ ॥

Naḋar karé ṫaa sévé ko▫ee.

If God grants His Grace, then one serves.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

Jamkaal ṫis néṛ na aavæ mahal sachæ sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||10||

The Messenger of Death cannot even approach him, and in the Mansion of the True Lord’s Presence, he finds peace. ||10||

ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਏ ॥

Ŧin sukʱ paa▫i▫aa jo ṫuḋʱ bʱaa▫é.

They alone find peace, who are pleasing to Your Will.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥

Pooræ bʱaag gur sévaa laa▫é.

By perfect destiny, they are attached to the Guru’s service.

ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

Ŧéræ haṫʱ hæ sabʱ vadi▫aa▫ee jis ḋévėh so paa▫iḋaa. ||11||

All glorious greatness rests in Your Hands; he alone obtains it, unto whom You give it. ||11||

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥

Anḋar pargaas guroo ṫé paa▫é.

Through the Guru, one’s inner being is enlightened and illuminated.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

Naam paḋaaraṫʱ man vasaa▫é.

The wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in the mind.

ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Gi▫aan raṫan saḋaa gʱat chaanaṇ agi▫aan anḋʱér gavaa▫iḋaa. ||12||

The jewel of spiritual wisdom ever illuminates the heart, and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||12||

ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

Agi▫aanee anḋʱé ḋoojæ laagé.

The blind and ignorant are attached to duality.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਡੁਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥

Bin paaṇee dub moo▫é abʱaagé.

The unfortunate people drown without water, and die.

ਚਲਦਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

Chalḋi▫aa gʱar ḋar naḋar na aavæ jam ḋar baaḋʱaa ḋukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||13||

When they depart from the world, they do not find the Lord’s door and home; bound and gagged at Death’s door, they suffer with pain. ||13||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Bin saṫgur sévé mukaṫ na ho▫ee.

Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation.

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥

Gi▫aanee ḋʱi▫aanee poochʱahu ko▫ee.

Go ask any spiritual teacher or mediator.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

Saṫgur sévé ṫis milæ vadi▫aa▫ee ḋar sachæ sobʱaa paa▫iḋaa. ||14||

Whoever serves the True Guru is blessed with glorious greatness, and honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||14||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Saṫgur no sévé ṫis aap milaa▫é.

One who serves the True Guru, the Lord merges into Himself.

ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

Mamṫaa kaat sach liv laa▫é.

Cutting away attachment, one lovingly focuses on the True Lord.

ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

Saḋaa sach vaṇjahi vaapaaree naamo laahaa paa▫iḋaa. ||15||

The merchants deal forever in Truth; they earn the profit of the Naam. ||15||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ॥

Āpé karé karaa▫é karṫaa.

The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥

Sabaḋ maræ so▫ee jan mukṫaa.

He alone is liberated, who dies in the Word of the Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੯॥

Naanak naam vasæ man anṫar naamo naam ḋʱi▫aa▫iḋaa. ||16||5||19||

O Nanak! The Naam dwells deep within the mind; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||5||19||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 3.

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Jo ṫuḋʱ karṇaa so kar paa▫i▫aa.

Whatever You do, is done.

ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਇਆ ॥

Bʱaaṇé vich ko virlaa aa▫i▫aa.

How rare are those who walk in harmony with the Lord’s Will.

ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

Bʱaaṇaa manné so sukʱ paa▫é bʱaaṇé vich sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||1||

One who surrenders to the Lord’s Will finds peace; he finds peace in the Lord’s Will. ||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

Gurmukʱ ṫéraa bʱaaṇaa bʱaavæ.

Your Will is pleasing to the Gurmukh.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

Sėhjé hee sukʱ sach kamaavæ.

Practicing Truth, he intuitively finds peace.

ਭਾਣੇ ਨੋ ਲੋਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

Bʱaaṇé no lochæ bahuṫéree aapṇaa bʱaaṇaa aap manaa▫iḋaa. ||2||

Many long to walk in harmony with the Lord’s Will; He Himself inspires us to surrender to His Will. ||2||

ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਏ ॥

Ŧéraa bʱaaṇaa manné so milæ ṫuḋʱ aa▫é.

One who surrenders to Your Will, meets with You, Lord.

ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

Jis bʱaaṇaa bʱaavæ so ṫujʱėh samaa▫é.

One who is pleased with Your Will is immersed in You.
