ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥

Gur kæ sabḋé ha▫umæ kʱovæ.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, egotism is consumed.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

Gur parsaadee kisæ ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee naamo naam ḋʱi▫aa▫iḋaa. ||5||

By Guru’s Grace, some are blessed with glorious greatness; they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||5||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

Gur sévé jévad hor laahaa naahee.

There is no other profit as great as service to the Guru.

ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥

Naam man vasæ naamo saalaahee.

The Naam abides within my mind, and I praise the Naam.

ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

Naamo naam saḋaa sukʱ▫ḋaaṫa naamo laahaa paa▫iḋaa. ||6||

The Naam is forever the Giver of peace. Through the Naam we earn the (real) profit. ||6||

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

Bin naavæ sabʱ ḋukʱ sansaaraa.

Without the Name, all the world suffers in misery.

ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥

Baho karam kamaavėh vaḋʱėh vikaaraa.

The more actions one does, the more the corruption increases.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

Naam na sévėh ki▫o sukʱ paa▫ee▫æ bin naavæ ḋukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||7||

Without serving the Naam, how can anyone find peace? Without the Naam, one suffers in pain. ||7||

ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥

Āp karé ṫæ aap karaa▫é.

He Himself acts, and inspires all to act.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

Gur parsaadee kisæ bujʱaa▫é.

By Guru’s Grace, He reveals Himself to a few.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਹਿ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

Gurmukʱ hovėh sé banḋʱan ṫoṛėh mukṫee kæ gʱar paa▫iḋaa. ||8||

One who becomes Gurmukh breaks his bonds, and attains the home of liberation. ||8||

ਗਣਤ ਗਣੈ ਸੋ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

Gaṇaṫ gaṇæ so jalæ sansaaraa.

One who calculates his accounts, burns in the world.

ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕੈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥

Sahsaa mool na chukæ vikaaraa.

His skepticism and corruption are never dispelled.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗਣਤ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

Gurmukʱ hovæ so gaṇaṫ chukaa▫é saché sach samaa▫iḋaa. ||9||

One who becomes Gurmukh abandons his calculations; through Truth, we merge in the True Lord. ||9||

ਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ਤ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥

Jé sach ḋé▫é ṫa paa▫é ko▫ee.

If God grants Truth, then we may attain it.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

Gur parsaadee pargat ho▫ee.

By Guru’s Grace, it is revealed.

ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

Sach naam saalaahé rang raaṫaa gur kirpaa ṫé sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||10||

One who praises the True Name, and remains imbued with the Lord’s Love, by Guru’s Grace, finds peace. ||10||

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

Jap ṫap sanjam naam pi▫aaraa.

The Beloved Naam, the Name of the Lord, is chanting, meditation, penance and self-control.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Kilvikʱ kaaté kaataṇhaaraa.

God, the Destroyer, destroys sins.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

Har kæ naam ṫan man seeṫal ho▫aa sėhjé sahj samaa▫iḋaa. ||11||

Through the Name of the Lord, the body and mind are cooled and soothed, and one is intuitively, easily absorbed into the Celestial Lord. ||11||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

Anṫar lobʱ man mælæ mal laa▫é.

With greed within them, their minds are filthy, and they spread filth around.

ਮੈਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Mælé karam karé ḋukʱ paa▫é.

They do filthy deeds, and suffer with pain.

ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Kooṛo kooṛ karé vaapaaraa kooṛ bol ḋukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||12||

They deal in falsehood, and nothing but falsehood; telling lies, they suffer with pain. ||12||

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

Nirmal baṇee ko man vasaa▫é.

Rare is that person who enshrines the Immaculate Bani of the Guru’s Word within his mind.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਜਾਏ ॥

Gur parsaadee sahsaa jaa▫é.

By Guru’s Grace, his skepticism is removed.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

Gur kæ bʱaaṇæ chalæ ḋin raaṫee naam chéṫ sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||13||

He walks in harmony with the Guru’s Will, day and night; remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he finds peace. ||13||

ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

Āp siranḋaa sachaa so▫ee.

The True Lord Himself is the Creator.

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ॥

Āp upaa▫é kʱapaa▫é so▫ee.

He Himself creates and destroys.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

Gurmukʱ hovæ so saḋaa salaahé mil saaché sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||14||

One who becomes Gurmukh, praises the Lord forever. Meeting the True Lord, he finds peace. ||14||

ਅਨੇਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Anék jaṫan karé inḋree vas na ho▫ee.

Making countless efforts, sexual desire is not overcome.

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥

Kaam karoḋʱ jalæ sabʱ ko▫ee.

Everyone is burning in the fires of sexuality and anger.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

Saṫgur sévé man vas aavæ man maaré manėh samaa▫iḋaa. ||15||

Serving the True Guru, one brings his mind under control; conquering his mind, he merges in the Mind of God. ||15||

ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥

Méraa ṫéraa ṫuḋʱ aapé kee▫aa.

You Yourself created the sense of ’mine’ and ’yours.’

ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਆ ॥

Sabʱ ṫéré janṫ ṫéré sabʱ jee▫aa.

All creatures are Yours; You created all beings.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੮॥

Naanak naam samaal saḋaa ṫoo gurmaṫee man vasaa▫iḋaa. ||16||4||18||

O Nanak! Contemplate the Naam forever; through the Guru’s Teachings, the Lord abides in the mind. ||16||4||18||

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥

Har jee▫o ḋaaṫaa agam aṫʱaahaa.

The Dear Lord is the Giver, inaccessible and unfathomable.

ਓਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥

Os ṫil na ṫamaa▫é véparvaahaa.

He does not have even an iota of greed; He is self-sufficient.

ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਅਪੜਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

Ŧis no apaṛ na sakæ ko▫ee aapé mél milaa▫iḋaa. ||1||

No one can reach up to Him; He Himself unites in His Union. ||1||

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਈ ॥

Jo kichʱ karæ so nihcha▫o ho▫ee.

Whatever He does, surely comes to pass.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

Ŧis bin ḋaaṫaa avar na ko▫ee.

There is no other Giver, except for Him.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

Jis no naam ḋaan karé so paa▫é gur sabḋee mélaa▫iḋaa. ||2||

Whoever the Lord blesses with His gift, obtains it. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He unites him with Himself. ||2||

ਚਉਦਹ ਭਵਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥

Cha▫oḋah bʱavaṇ ṫéré hatnaalé.

The fourteen worlds are Your markets.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

Saṫgur ḋikʱaa▫é anṫar naalé.

The True Guru reveals them, along with one’s inner being.

ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਕੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥

Naavæ kaa vaapaaree hovæ gur sabḋee ko paa▫iḋaa. ||3||

One who deals in the Name, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, obtains it. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥

Saṫgur sévi▫æ sahj ananḋaa.

Serving the True Guru, one obtains intuitive bliss.
