ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

Ha▫umæ maa▫i▫aa bʱaram gavaa▫é.

He rids himself of egotism, Maya and doubt.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਊਤਮ ਊਚੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

Gur kee pa▫oṛee ooṫam oochee ḋar sachæ har guṇ gaa▫iḋaa. ||7||

He ascends the sublime, exalted ladder of the Guru, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord at His True Door. ||7||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

Gurmukʱ sach sanjam karṇee saar.

The Gurmukh practices true self-control, and acts in excellence.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

Gurmukʱ paa▫é mokʱ ḋu▫aar.

The Gurmukh obtains the gate of salvation.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

Bʱaa▫é bʱagaṫ saḋaa rang raaṫaa aap gavaa▫é samaa▫iḋaa. ||8||

Through loving devotion, he remains forever imbued with the Lord’s Love; eradicating self-conceit, he merges into the Lord. ||8||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥

Gurmukʱ hovæ man kʱoj suṇaa▫é.

One who becomes Gurmukh examines his own mind, and instructs others.

ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

Sachæ naam saḋaa liv laa▫é.

He is lovingly attuned to the True Name forever.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਜੋ ਸਚੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

Jo ṫis bʱaavæ so▫ee karsee jo saché man bʱaa▫iḋaa. ||9||

They act in harmony with the Mind of the True Lord. ||9||

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

Jaa ṫis bʱaavæ saṫguroo milaa▫é.

As it pleases His Will, He unites us with the True Guru.

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

Jaa ṫis bʱaavæ ṫaa man vasaa▫é.

As it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell within the mind.

ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

Āpṇæ bʱaaṇæ saḋaa rang raaṫaa bʱaaṇæ man vasaa▫iḋaa. ||10||

As it pleases His Will, He imbues us with His Love; as it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell in the mind. ||10||

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ॥

Manhatʱ karam karé so chʱeejæ.

Those who act stubborn-mindedly are destroyed.

ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥

Bahuṫé bʱékʱ karé nahee bʱeejæ.

Wearing all sorts of religious robes, they do not please the Lord.

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

Bikʱi▫aa raaṫé ḋukʱ kamaavėh ḋukʱé ḋukʱ samaa▫iḋaa. ||11||

Tinged by corruption, they earn only pain; they are immersed in pain. ||11||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

Gurmukʱ hovæ so sukʱ kamaa▫é.

One who becomes Gurmukh earns peace.

ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥

Maraṇ jeevaṇ kee sojʱee paa▫é.

He comes to understand death and birth.

ਮਰਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜੋ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Maraṇ jeevaṇ jo sam kar jaaṇæ so méré parabʱ bʱaa▫iḋaa. ||12||

One who looks alike upon death and birth, is pleasing to my God. ||12||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

Gurmukʱ marėh so hėh parvaaṇ.

The Gurmukh, while remaining dead, is respected and approved.

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥

Āvaṇ jaaṇaa sabaḋ pachʱaaṇ.

He realizes that coming and going are according to God’s Will.

ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

Maræ na jammæ naa ḋukʱ paa▫é man hee manėh samaa▫iḋaa. ||13||

He does not die, he is not reborn, and he does not suffer with pain; his mind merges in the Mind of God. ||13||

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Sé vadbʱaagee jinee saṫgur paa▫i▫aa.

Very fortunate are those who find the True Guru.

ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

Ha▫umæ vichahu moh chukaa▫i▫aa.

They eradicate egotism and attachment from within.

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

Man nirmal fir mæl na laagæ ḋar sachæ sobʱaa paa▫iḋaa. ||14||

Their minds are immaculate, and they are never again stained with filth. They are honored at the Door of the True Court. ||14||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥

Āpé karé karaa▫é aapé.

He Himself acts, and inspires all to act.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥

Āpé vékʱæ ṫʱaap uṫʱaapé.

He Himself watches over all; He establishes and disestablishes.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

Gurmukʱ sévaa méré parabʱ bʱaavæ sach suṇ lékʱæ paa▫iḋaa. ||15||

The service of the Gurmukh is pleasing to my God; one who listens to the Truth is approved. ||15||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

Gurmukʱ sacho sach kamaavæ.

The Gurmukh practices Truth, and only Truth.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

Gurmukʱ nirmal mæl na laavæ.

The Gurmukh is immaculate; no filth attaches to him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੫॥

Naanak naam raṫé veechaaree naamé naam samaa▫iḋaa. ||16||1||15||

O Nanak! Those who contemplate the Naam are imbued with it. They merge in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||1||15||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 3.

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀ ॥

Āpé sarisat hukam sabʱ saajee.

He Himself fashioned the Universe, through the Hukam of His Command.

ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੀ ॥

Āpé ṫʱaap uṫʱaap nivaajee.

He Himself establishes and disestablishes, and embellishes with grace.

ਆਪੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

Āpé ni▫aa▫o karé sabʱ saachaa saaché saach milaa▫iḋaa. ||1||

The True Lord Himself administers all justice; through Truth, we merge in the True Lord. ||1||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa kot hæ aakaaraa.

The body takes the form of a fortress.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa moh pasri▫aa paasaaraa.

Emotional attachment to Maya has expanded throughout its expanse.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਸਮੈ ਕੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

Bin sabḋæ bʱasmæ kee dʱéree kʱéhoo kʱéh ralaa▫iḋaa. ||2||

Without the Word of the Shabad, the body is reduced to a pile of ashes; in the end, dust mingles with dust. ||2||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa kanchan kot apaaraa.

The body is the infinite fortress of gold;

ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Jis vich ravi▫aa sabaḋ apaaraa.

it is permeated by the Infinite Word of the Shabad.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥

Gurmukʱ gaavæ saḋaa guṇ saaché mil pareeṫam sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||3||

The Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord forever; meeting his Beloved, he finds peace. ||3||

ਕਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa har manḋar har aap savaaré.

The body is the temple of the Lord; the Lord Himself embellishes it.

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵਸੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥

Ŧis vich har jee▫o vasæ muraaré.

The Dear Lord dwells within it.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਣਜਨਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥

Gur kæ sabaḋ vaṇjan vaapaaree naḋree aap milaa▫iḋaa. ||4||

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the merchants trade, and in His Grace, the Lord merges them with Himself. ||4||

ਸੋ ਸੂਚਾ ਜਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥

So

He alone is pure, who eradicates anger.

ਸਬਦੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

Sabḋé boojʱæ aap savaaré.

He realizes the Shabad, and reforms himself.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

Āpé karé karaa▫é karṫaa aapé man vasaa▫iḋaa. ||5||

The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act; He Himself abides in the mind. ||5||

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥

Nirmal bʱagaṫ hæ niraalee.

Pure and unique is devotional worship.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧੋਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

Man ṫan ḋʱovėh sabaḋ veechaaree.

The mind and body are washed clean, contemplating the Shabad.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

An▫ḋin saḋaa rahæ rang raaṫaa kar kirpaa bʱagaṫ karaa▫iḋaa. ||6||

One who remains forever imbued with His Love, night and day - in His Mercy, the Lord inspires him to perform devotional worship. ||6||
