ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa mohi suḋʰ na kaa▫ee.

In love and attachment to Maya, he has no understanding at all.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥

Manmukʰ anḋʰé kichʰoo na soojʰæ gurmaṫ naam pargaasee hé. ||14||

The blind, self-willed Manmukh sees nothing; through the Guru’s Teachings, the Naam is gloriously revealed. ||14||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੂਤੇ ॥

Manmukʰ ha▫umæ maa▫i▫aa sooṫé.

The Manmukhs are asleep in egotism and Maya.

ਅਪਣਾ ਘਰੁ ਨ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ॥

Apṇaa gʰar na samaalėh anṫ vigooṫé.

They do not watch over their own homes, and are ruined in the end.

ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਲੈ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥

Par ninḋaa karahi baho chinṫaa jaalæ ḋukʰé ḋukʰ nivaasee hé. ||15||

They slander others, and burn in great anxiety; they dwell in pain and suffering. ||15||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਈ ॥

Aapé karṫæ kaar karaa▫ee.

The Creator Himself has created the creation.

ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥

Aapé gurmukʰ ḋé▫é bujʰaa▫ee.

He blesses the Gurmukh with understanding.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੫॥

Naanak naam raṫé man nirmal naamé naam nivaasee hé. ||16||5||

O Nanak! Those who are attuned to the Naam - their minds become immaculate; they dwell in the Naam, and only the Naam. ||16||5||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 3.

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ॥

Éko sévee saḋaa ṫʰir saachaa.

I serve the One Lord, who is eternal, stable and True.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਕਾਚਾ ॥

Ḋoojæ laagaa sabʰ jag kaachaa.

Attached to duality, the whole world is false.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

Gurmaṫee saḋaa sach saalaahee saaché hee saach paṫeejæ hé. ||1||

Following the Guru’s Teachings, I praise the True Lord forever, pleased with the Truest of the True. ||1||

ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਮੈ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

Ṫéré guṇ bahuṫé mæ ék na jaaṫaa.

Your Glorious Virtues are so many, Lord; I do not know even one.

ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥

Aapé laa▫é la▫é jagjeevan ḋaaṫaa.

The Life of the world, the Great Giver, attaches us to himself.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

Aapé bakʰsé ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee gurmaṫ ih man bʰeejæ hé. ||2||

He Himself forgives, and bestows glorious greatness. Following the Guru’s Teachings, this mind is delighted. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa lahar sabaḋ nivaaree.

The Word of the Shabad has subdued the waves of Maya.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥

Ih man nirmal ha▫umæ maaree.

Egotism has been conquered, and this mind has become immaculate.

ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

Sėhjé guṇ gaavæ rang raaṫaa rasnaa raam raveejæ hé. ||3||

I intuitively sing His Glorious Praises, imbued with the Lord’s Love. My tongue chants and savors the Lord’s Name. ||3||

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥

Méree méree karaṫ vihaaṇee.

Crying out, “Mine! mine!” he spends his life.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥

Manmukʰ na boojʰæ firæ i▫aaṇee.

The self-willed Manmukh does not understand; he wanders around in ignorance.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਆਰਜਾ ਛੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

Jamkaal gʰaṛee muhaṫ nihaalé an▫ḋin aarjaa chʰeejæ hé. ||4||

The Messenger of Death watches over him every moment, every instant; night and day, his life is wasting away. ||4||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

Anṫar lobʰ karæ nahee boojʰæ.

He practices greed within, and does not understand.

ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

Sir oopar jamkaal na soojʰæ.

He does not see the Messenger of Death hovering over his head.

ਐਥੈ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸੁ ਅਗੈ ਆਇਆ ਅੰਤਕਾਲਿ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

Æṫʰæ kamaaṇaa so agæ aa▫i▫aa anṫkaal ki▫aa keejæ hé. ||5||

Whatever one does in this world, will come to face him in the hereafter; what can he do at that very last moment? ||5||

ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥

Jo sach laagé ṫin saachee so▫é.

Those who are attached to the Truth are true.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਇ ॥

Ḋoojæ laagé manmukʰ ro▫é.

The self-willed Manmukhs, attached to duality, weep and wail.

ਦੁਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਭੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥

Ḋuhaa siri▫aa kaa kʰasam hæ aapé aapé guṇ mėh bʰeejæ hé. ||6||

He is the Lord and Master of both worlds; He Himself delights in virtue. ||6||

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥

Gur kæ sabaḋ saḋaa jan sohæ.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, His humble servant is exalted forever.

ਨਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹੈ ॥

Naam rasaa▫iṇ ih man mohæ.

This mind is enticed by the Naam, the source of nectar.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਭੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥

Maa▫i▫aa moh mæl paṫang na laagæ gurmaṫee har naam bʰeejæ hé. ||7||

It is not stained at all by the dirt of attachment to Maya; through the Guru’s Teachings, it is pleased and saturated with the Lord’s Name. ||7||

ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

Sabʰnaa vich varṫæ ik so▫ee.

The One Lord is contained within all.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

Gur parsaadee pargat ho▫ee.

By Guru’s Grace, He is revealed.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਇ ਸਾਚੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

Ha▫umæ maar saḋaa sukʰ paa▫i▫aa naa▫é saachæ amriṫ peejæ hé. ||8||

One who subdues his ego, finds lasting peace; he drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name. ||8||

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Kilbikʰ ḋookʰ nivaaraṇhaaraa.

God is the Destroyer of sin and pain.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

Gurmukʰ sévi▫aa sabaḋ veechaaraa.

The Gurmukh serves Him, and contemplates the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥

Sabʰ kichʰ aapé aap varṫæ gurmukʰ ṫan man bʰeejæ hé. ||9||

He Himself is pervading everything. The Gurmukh’s body and mind are saturated and pleased. ||9||

ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa agan jalæ sansaaré.

The world is burning in the fire of Maya.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

Gurmukʰ nivaaræ sabaḋ veechaaré.

The Gurmukh extinguishes this fire, by contemplating the Shabad.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥

Anṫar saaⁿṫ saḋaa sukʰ paa▫i▫aa gurmaṫee naam leejæ hé. ||10||

Deep within are peace and tranquility, and lasting peace is obtained. Following the Guru’s Teachings, one is blessed with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||10||

ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥

Inḋar inḋaraasaṇ bætʰé jam kaa bʰa▫o paavahi.

Even Indra, seated upon his throne, is caught in the fear of death.

ਜਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥

Jam na chʰodæ baho karam kamaavėh.

The Messenger of Death will not spare them, even though they try all sorts of things.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥

Saṫgur bʰétæ ṫaa mukaṫ paa▫ee▫æ har har rasnaa peejæ hé. ||11||

When one meets with the True Guru, one is liberated, drinking in and savoring the sublime essence of the Lord, Har, Har. ||11||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Manmukʰ anṫar bʰagaṫ na ho▫ee.

There is no devotion within the self-willed Manmukh.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

Gurmukʰ bʰagaṫ saaⁿṫ sukʰ ho▫ee.

Through devotional worship, the Gurmukh obtains peace and tranquility.

ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥

Paviṫar paavan saḋaa hæ baṇee gurmaṫ anṫar bʰeejæ hé. ||12||

Forever pure and sanctified is the Word of the Guru’s Bani; following the Guru’s Teachings, one’s inner being is drenched in it. ||12||

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

Barahmaa bisan mahés veechaaree.

I have considered Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਧਕ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ॥

Ṫaræ guṇ baḋʰak mukaṫ niraaree.

They are bound by the three qualities - the three gunas; they are far away from liberation.
