ਆਪੇ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਸਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

Aapé kis hee kas bakʰsé aapé ḋé læ bʰaa▫ee hé. ||8||

You Yourself test and forgive. You Yourself give and take, O Siblings of Destiny. ||8||

ਆਪੇ ਧਨਖੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬਾਣਾ ॥

Aapé ḋʰanakʰ aapé sarbaaṇaa.

He Himself is the bow, and He Himself is the archer.

ਆਪੇ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥

Aapé sugʰaṛ saroop si▫aaṇaa.

He Himself is all-wise, beautiful and all-knowing.

ਕਹਤਾ ਬਕਤਾ ਸੁਣਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥

Kahṫaa bakṫaa suṇṫaa so▫ee aapé baṇaṫ baṇaa▫ee hé. ||9||

He is the speaker, the orator and the listener. He Himself made what is made. ||9||

ਪਉਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

Pa▫uṇ guroo paaṇee piṫ jaaṫaa.

Ær is the Guru, and water is known to be the father.

ਉਦਰ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਤਾ ॥

Uḋar sanjogee ḋʰarṫee maaṫaa.

The womb of the great mother earth gives birth to all.

ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਜਗੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਖੇਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥

Ræṇ ḋinas ḋu▫é ḋaa▫ee ḋaa▫i▫aa jag kʰélæ kʰélaa▫ee hé. ||10||

Night and day are the two nurses, male and female; the world plays in this play. ||10||

ਆਪੇ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲਾ ॥

Aapé machʰulee aapé jaalaa.

You Yourself are the fish, and You Yourself are the net.

ਆਪੇ ਗਊ ਆਪੇ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥

Aapé ga▫oo aapé rakʰvaalaa.

You Yourself are the cows, and You yourself are their keeper.

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਜਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥

Sarab jee▫aa jag joṫ ṫumaaree jæsee parabʰ furmaa▫ee hé. ||11||

Your Light fills all the beings of the world; they walk according to Your Command, O God. ||11||

ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਭੋਗੀ ॥

Aapé jogee aapé bʰogee.

You Yourself are the Yogi, and You Yourself are the enjoyer.

ਆਪੇ ਰਸੀਆ ਪਰਮ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ॥

Aapé rasee▫aa param sanjogee.

You Yourself are the reveler; You form the supreme Union.

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥

Aapé vébaaṇee nirankaaree nirbʰa▫o ṫaaṛee laa▫ee hé. ||12||

You Yourself are speechless, formless and fearless, absorbed in the primal ecstasy of deep meditation. ||12||

ਖਾਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥

Kʰaaṇee baṇee ṫujʰėh samaaṇee.

The sources of creation and speech are contained within You, Lord.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਭ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

Jo ḋeesæ sabʰ aavaṇ jaaṇee.

All that is seen, is coming and going.

ਸੇਈ ਸਾਹ ਸਚੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥

Sé▫ee saah saché vaapaaree saṫgur boojʰ bujʰaa▫ee hé. ||13||

They are the true bankers and traders, whom the True Guru has inspired to understand. ||13||

ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

Sabaḋ bujʰaa▫é saṫgur pooraa.

The Word of the Shabad is understood through the Perfect True Guru.

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਰਪੂਰਾ ॥

Sarab kalaa saaché bʰarpooraa.

The True Lord is overflowing with all powers.

ਅਫਰਿਓ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥

Afri▫o véparvaahu saḋaa ṫoo naa ṫis ṫil na ṫamaa▫ee hé. ||14||

You are beyond our grasp, and forever independent. You do not have even an iota of greed. ||14||

ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਕਾਲੁ ਭਏ ਦੇਵਾਨੇ ॥

Kaal bikaal bʰa▫é ḋévaané.

Birth and death are meaningless, for those

ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ॥

Sabaḋ sahj ras anṫar maané.

who enjoy the sublime celestial essence of the Shabad within their minds.

ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਵਰਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥

Aapé mukaṫ ṫaripaṫ varḋaaṫaa bʰagaṫ bʰaa▫é man bʰaa▫ee hé. ||15||

He Himself is the Giver of liberation, satisfaction and blessings, to those devotees who love Him in their minds. ||15||

ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਮ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥

Aap niraalam gur gam gi▫aanaa.

He Himself is immaculate; by contact with the Guru, spiritual wisdom is obtained.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥

Jo ḋeesæ ṫujʰ maahi samaanaa.

Whatever is seen, shall merge into You.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਚੈ ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥

Naanak neech bʰikʰi▫aa ḋar jaachæ mæ ḋeejæ naam vadaa▫ee hé. ||16||1||

Nanak, the lowly, begs for charity at Your Door; please, bless him with the glorious greatness of Your Name. ||16||1||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 1.

Maaroo, First Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲੁ ਅਕਾਸੰ ॥

Aapé ḋʰarṫee ḋʰa▫ul akaasaⁿ.

He Himself is the earth, the mythical bull which supports it and the Akashic ethers.

ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਾਸੰ ॥

Aapé saaché guṇ pargaasaⁿ.

The True Lord Himself reveals His Glorious Virtues.

ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

Jaṫee saṫee sanṫokʰee aapé aapé kaar kamaa▫ee hé. ||1||

He Himself is celibate, chaste and contented; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. ||1||

ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥

Jis karṇaa so kar kar vékʰæ.

He who created the creation, beholds what He has created.

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਲੇਖੈ ॥

Ko▫é na métæ saaché lékʰæ.

No one can erase the Inscription of the True Lord.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

Aapé karé karaa▫é aapé aapé ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee hé. ||2||

He Himself is the Doer, the Cause of all causes; He Himself is the One who bestows glorious greatness. ||2||

ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਚਾਲਹਿ ॥

Panch chor chanchal chiṫ chaalėh.

The five thieves cause the fickle consciousness to waver.

ਪਰ ਘਰ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਲਹਿ ॥

Par gʰar johėh gʰar nahee bʰaalėh.

It looks into the homes of others, but does not search its own home.

ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਢਹੈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

Kaa▫i▫aa nagar dʰahæ dʰėh dʰéree bin sabḋæ paṫ jaa▫ee hé. ||3||

The body-village crumbles into dust; without the Word of the Shabad, one’s honor is lost. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

Gur ṫé boojʰæ ṫaribʰavaṇ soojʰæ.

One who realizes the Lord through the Guru, comprehends the three worlds.

ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ॥

Mansaa maar manæ si▫o loojʰæ.

He subdues his desires, and struggles with his mind.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਧ ਹੀ ਜੇਹੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਲ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

Jo ṫuḋʰ sévėh sé ṫuḋʰ hee jéhé nirbʰa▫o baal sakʰaa▫ee hé. ||4||

Those who serve You, become just like You; O Fearless Lord, You are their best friend from infancy. ||4||

ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥

Aapé surag machʰ pa▫i▫aalaa.

You Yourself are the heavenly realms, this world and the nether regions of the underworld.

ਆਪੇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਬਾਲਾ ॥

Aapé joṫ saroopee baalaa.

You Yourself are the embodiment of light, forever young.

ਜਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

Jataa bikat bikraal saroopee roop na rékʰ▫i▫aa kaa▫ee hé. ||5||

With matted hair, and a horrible, dreadful form, still, You have no form or feature. ||5||

ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬੀ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

Béḋ kaṫébee bʰéḋ na jaaṫaa.

The Vedas and the Bible do not know the mystery of God.

ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥

Naa ṫis maaṫ piṫaa suṫ bʰaraaṫaa.

He has no mother, father, child or brother.

ਸਗਲੇ ਸੈਲ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਏ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਣਾ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥

Saglé sæl upaa▫é samaa▫é alakʰ na lakʰ▫ṇaa jaa▫ee hé. ||6||

He created all the mountains, and levels them again; the Unseen Lord cannot be seen. ||6||

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਮੀਤ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥

Kar kar ṫʰaakee meeṫ gʰanéré.

I have grown weary of making so many friends.

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥

Ko▫é na kaatæ avguṇ méré.

No one can rid me of my sins and mistakes.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥

Sur nar naaṫʰ saahib sabʰnaa sir bʰaa▫é milæ bʰa▫o jaa▫ee hé. ||7||

God is the Supreme Lord and Master of all the angels and mortal beings; blessed with His Love, their fear is dispelled. ||7||

ਭੂਲੇ ਚੂਕੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥

Bʰoolé chooké maarag paavahi.

He puts back on the Path those who have wandered and strayed.

ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ॥

Aap bʰulaa▫é ṫoohæ samjʰaavahi.

You Yourself make them stray, and You teach them again.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

Bin naavæ mæ avar na ḋeesæ naavhu gaṫ miṫ paa▫ee hé. ||8||

I cannot see anything except the Name. Through the Name comes salvation and merit. ||8||
