ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pa▫oṛee.

Pauree:

ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥

Har saalaahee saḋaa saḋaa ṫan man sa▫up sareer.

Praise the Lord, forever and ever; dedicate your body and mind to Him.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥

Gur sabḋee sach paa▫i▫aa sachaa gahir gambʰeer.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I have found the True, Profound and Unfathomable Lord.

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੀਰੁ ॥

Man ṫan hirḋæ rav rahi▫aa har heeraa heer.

The Lord, the jewel of jewels, is permeating my mind, body and heart.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਨ ਫੀਰੁ ॥

Janam maraṇ kaa ḋukʰ ga▫i▫aa fir pavæ na feer.

The pains of birth and death are gone, and I shall never again be consigned to the cycle of reincarnation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੧੦॥

Naanak naam salaahi ṫoo har guṇee gaheer. ||10||

O Nanak! Praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the ocean of excellence. ||10||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Salok mėhlaa 1.

Shalok, First Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਲਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥

Naanak ih ṫan jaal jin jali▫æ naam visaari▫aa.

O Nanak! Burn this body; this burnt body has forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਪਉਦੀ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਾਲਿ ਪਿਛੈ ਹਥੁ ਨ ਅੰਬੜੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਿਵੰਧੈ ਤਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

Pa▫uḋee jaa▫é paraal pichʰæ haṫʰ na ambṛæ ṫiṫ nivanḋʰæ ṫaal. ||1||

The dirt is piling up, and in the world hereafter, your hand shall not be able to reach down into this stagnant pond to clean it out. ||1||

ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Mėhlaa 1.

First Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਫਿਟਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵਹੀ ॥

Naanak man ké kamm fiti▫aa gaṇaṫ na aavhee.

O Nanak! Wicked are the uncountable actions of the mind.

ਕਿਤੀ ਲਹਾ ਸਹੰਮ ਜਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਾ ਧਕਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥

Kiṫee lahaa sahamm jaa bakʰsé ṫaa ḋʰakaa nahee. ||2||

They bring terrible and painful retributions, but if the Lord forgives me, then I will be spared this punishment. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pa▫oṛee.

Pauree:

ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਚਲਾਇਓਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥

Sachaa amar chalaa▫i▫on kar sach furmaaṇ.

True is the Command He sends forth, and True are the Orders He issues.

ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥

Saḋaa nihchal rav rahi▫aa so purakʰ sujaaṇ.

Forever unmoving and unchanging, permeating and pervading everywhere, He is the All-knowing Primal Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

Gur parsaadee sévee▫æ sach sabaḋ neesaaṇ.

By Guru’s Grace, serve Him, through the True Insignia of the Shabad.

ਪੂਰਾ ਥਾਟੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਣੁ ॥

Pooraa ṫʰaat baṇaa▫i▫aa rang gurmaṫ maaṇ.

That which He makes is perfect; through the Guru’s Teachings, enjoy His Love.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧੧॥

Agam agochar alakʰ hæ gurmukʰ har jaaṇ. ||11||

As Gurmukh, understand that the Lord is inaccessible, unfathomable and unseen. ||11||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਦਰਾ ਮਾਲ ਕਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ਆਣਿ ॥

Naanak baḋraa maal kaa bʰeeṫar ḋʰari▫aa aaṇ.

O Nanak! The bags of coins are brought in

ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ॥੧॥

Kʰoté kʰaré parkʰee▫an saahib kæ ḋeebaaṇ. ||1||

and placed in the Court of our Lord and Master, and there, the genuine and the counterfeit are separated. ||1||

ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Mėhlaa 1.

First Mehl:

ਨਾਵਣ ਚਲੇ ਤੀਰਥੀ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਤਨਿ ਚੋਰ ॥

Naavaṇ chalé ṫeerṫʰee man kʰotæ ṫan chor.

They go and bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, but their minds are still evil, and their bodies are thieves.

ਇਕੁ ਭਾਉ ਲਥੀ ਨਾਤਿਆ ਦੁਇ ਭਾ ਚੜੀਅਸੁ ਹੋਰ ॥

Ik bʰaa▫o laṫʰee naaṫi▫aa ḋu▫é bʰaa chaṛee▫as hor.

Some of their filth is washed off by these baths, but they only accumulate twice as much.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਧੋਤੀ ਤੂਮੜੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਨਿਕੋਰ ॥

Baahar ḋʰoṫee ṫoomṛee anḋar vis nikor.

Like a gourd, they may be washed off on the outside, but on the inside, they are still filled with poison.

ਸਾਧ ਭਲੇ ਅਣਨਾਤਿਆ ਚੋਰ ਸਿ ਚੋਰਾ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥

Saaḋʰ bʰalé aṇnaaṫi▫aa chor sė choraa chor. ||2||

The holy man is blessed, even without such bathing, while a thief is a thief, no matter how much he bathes. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pa▫oṛee.

Pauree:

ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇਦਾ ਜਗੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

Aapé hukam chalaa▫iḋaa jag ḋʰanḋʰæ laa▫i▫aa.

He Himself issues His Commands, and links the people of the world to their tasks.

ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Ik aapé hee aap laa▫i▫an gur ṫé sukʰ paa▫i▫aa.

He Himself joins some to Himself, and through the Guru, they find peace.

ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥

Ḋah ḋis ih man ḋʰaavḋaa gur tʰaak rahaa▫i▫aa.

The mind runs around in the ten directions; the Guru holds it still.

ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Naavæ no sabʰ lochḋee gurmaṫee paa▫i▫aa.

Everyone longs for the Name, but it is only found through the Guru’s Teachings.

ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥

Ḋʰur likʰi▫aa mét na sakee▫æ jo har likʰ paa▫i▫aa. ||12||

Your preordained destiny, written by the Lord in the very beginning, cannot be erased. ||12||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Salok mėhlaa 1.

Shalok, First Mehl:

ਦੁਇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਉਦਹ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥

Ḋu▫é ḋeevé cha▫oḋah hatnaalé.

The two lamps light the fourteen markets.

ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥

Jéṫé jee▫a ṫéṫé vaṇjaaré.

There are just as many traders as there are living beings.

ਖੁਲੑੇ ਹਟ ਹੋਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥

Kʰulĥé hat ho▫aa vaapaar.

The shops are open, and trading is going on;

ਜੋ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

Jo pahuchæ so chalaṇhaar.

whoever comes there, is bound to depart.

ਧਰਮੁ ਦਲਾਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

Ḋʰaram ḋalaal paa▫é neesaaṇ.

The Righteous Judge of Dharma is the broker, who gives his sign of approval.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

Naanak naam laahaa parvaaṇ.

O Nanak! Those who earn the profit of the Naam are accepted and approved.

ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥

Gʰar aa▫é vajee vaaḋʰaa▫ee.

And when they return home, they are greeted with cheers;

ਸਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥

Sach naam kee milee vadi▫aa▫ee. ||1||

they obtain the glorious greatness of the True Name. ||1||

ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Mėhlaa 1.

First Mehl:

ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਕਾਲੀਆ ਸੁਪੇਦਾ ਸੇ ਵੰਨ ॥

Raaṫee hovan kaalee▫aa supéḋaa sé vann.

Even when the night is dark, whatever is white retains its white color.

ਦਿਹੁ ਬਗਾ ਤਪੈ ਘਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ਕਾਲੇ ਵੰਨ ॥

Ḋihu bagaa ṫapæ gʰaṇaa kaali▫aa kaalé vann.

And even when the light of day is dazzlingly bright, whatever is black retains its black color.

ਅੰਧੇ ਅਕਲੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

Anḋʰé aklee baahré moorakʰ anḋʰ gi▫aan.

The blind fools have no wisdom at all; their understanding is blind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥

Naanak naḋree baahré kabėh na paavahi maan. ||2||

O Nanak! Without the Lord’s Grace, they will never receive honor. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pa▫oṛee.

Pauree:

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਆਪੇ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa kot rachaa▫i▫aa har sachæ aapé.

The True Lord Himself created the body-fortress.

ਇਕਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥

Ik ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é kʰu▫aa▫i▫an ha▫umæ vich vi▫aapé.

Some are ruined through the love of duality, engrossed in egotism.

ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਸਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥

Ih maanas janam ḋulambʰ saa manmukʰ sanṫaapé.

This human body is so difficult to obtain; the self-willed Manmukhs suffer with pain.

ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਥਾਪੇ ॥

Jis aap bujʰaa▫é so bujʰsee jis saṫgur ṫʰaapé.

He alone understands whom the Lord Himself causes to understand; he is blessed by the True Guru.

ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪੇ ॥੧੩॥

Sabʰ jag kʰél rachaa▫i▫on sabʰ varṫæ aapé. ||13||

He created the entire world for His play; He is pervading amongst all. ||13||
