421 ਜੇਹੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਈਐ ਕਰਣੀ ਭੀ ਸਾਈ ॥ Jéhee sév karaa▫ee▫æ karṇee bʰee saa▫ee. Whatever service the Lord causes us to do, that is just what we do. ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥ Aap karé kis aakʰee▫æ vékʰæ vadi▫aa▫ee. ||7|| He Himself acts; who else should be mentioned? He beholds His own greatness. ||7|| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ Gur kee sévaa so karé jis aap karaa▫é. He alone serves the Guru, whom the Lord Himself inspires to do so. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੇ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੧੮॥ Naanak sir ḋé chʰootee▫æ ḋargėh paṫ paa▫é. ||8||18|| O Nanak! Offering his head, one is emancipated, and honored in the Court of the Lord. ||8||18|| ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ Aasaa mėhlaa 1. Aasaa, First Mehl: ਰੂੜੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਾਹਰੋ ਰੂੜੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ॥ Rooṛo tʰaakur maahro rooṛee gurbaaṇee. Beautiful is the Supreme Lord and Master, and beautiful is the Word of the Guru’s Bani. ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ vadæ bʰaag saṫgur milæ paa▫ee▫æ paḋ nirbaaṇee. ||1|| By great good fortune, one meets the True Guru, and the supreme-status of Nirvana is obtained. ||1|| ਮੈ ਓਲੑਗੀਆ ਓਲੑਗੀ ਹਮ ਛੋਰੂ ਥਾਰੇ ॥ Mæ olĥgee▫aa olĥgee ham chʰoroo ṫʰaaré. I am the lowest slave of Your slaves; I am Your most humble servant. ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Ji▫o ṫooⁿ raakʰahi ṫi▫o rahaa mukʰ naam hamaaré. ||1|| rahaa▫o. As You keep me, I live. Your Name is in my mouth. ||1||Pause|| ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਘਣੀ ਭਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈਐ ॥ Ḋarsan kee pi▫aasaa gʰaṇee bʰaaṇæ man bʰaa▫ee▫æ. I have such a great thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; my mind accepts Your Will, and so You are pleased with me. ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਭਾਣੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥ Méré tʰaakur haaṫʰ vaḋi▫aa▫ee▫aa bʰaaṇæ paṫ paa▫ee▫æ. ||2|| Greatness is in the Hands of my Lord and Master; by His Will, honor is obtained. ||2|| ਸਾਚਉ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ Saacha▫o ḋoor na jaaṇee▫æ anṫar hæ so▫ee. Do not think that the True Lord is far away; He is deep within. ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥ Jah ḋékʰaa ṫah rav rahé kin keemaṫ ho▫ee. ||3|| Wherever I look, there I find Him pervading; how can I estimate His value? ||3|| ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਹਰੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ Aap karé aapé haré vékʰæ vadi▫aa▫ee. He Himself does, and He Himself undoes. He Himself beholds His glorious greatness. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ਇਉ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥ Gurmukʰ ho▫é nihaalee▫æ i▫o keemaṫ paa▫ee. ||4|| Becoming Gurmukh, one beholds Him, and so, His value is appraised. ||4|| ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ Jeevḋi▫aa laahaa milæ gur kaar kamaavæ. So, earn your profits while you are alive, by serving the Guru. ਪੂਰਬਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥ Poorab hovæ likʰi▫aa ṫaa saṫgur paavæ. ||5|| If it is so preordained, then one finds the True Guru. ||5|| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੋਟਾ ਨਿਤ ਹੈ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥ Manmukʰ ṫotaa niṫ hæ bʰarmėh bʰarmaa▫é. The self-willed Manmukhs continually lose, and wander around, deluded by doubt. ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥ Manmukʰ anḋʰ na chéṫ▫ee ki▫o ḋarsan paa▫é. ||6|| The blind Manmukhs do not remember the Lord; how can they obtain the Blessed Vision of His Darshan? ||6|| ਤਾ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ Ṫaa jag aa▫i▫aa jaaṇee▫æ saachæ liv laa▫é. one’s coming into the world is judged worthwhile only if one lovingly attunes oneself to the True Lord. ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਭਏ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੭॥ Gur bʰété paaras bʰa▫é joṫee joṫ milaa▫é. ||7|| Meeting the Guru, one becomes invaluable; his light merges into the Light. ||7|| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੋ ਕਾਰ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਣੀ ॥ Ahinis rahæ niraalmo kaar ḋʰur kee karṇee. Day and night, he remains detached, and serves the Primal Lord. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ॥੮॥੧੯॥ Naanak naam sanṫokʰee▫aa raaṫé har charṇee. ||8||19|| O Nanak! Those who are imbued with the Lord’s Lotus Feet, are content with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||8||19|| ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ Aasaa mėhlaa 1. Aasaa, First Mehl: ਕੇਤਾ ਆਖਣੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ॥ Kéṫaa aakʰaṇ aakʰee▫æ ṫaa ké anṫ na jaaṇaa. No matter how much one may describe the Lord, His limits still cannot be known. ਮੈ ਨਿਧਰਿਆ ਧਰ ਏਕ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਤਾਣੁ ਸਤਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ Mæ niḋʰri▫aa ḋʰar ék ṫooⁿ mæ ṫaaṇ saṫaaṇaa. ||1|| I am without any support; You, O Lord, are my only Support; You are my almighty power. ||1|| ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥ Naanak kee arḋaas hæ sach naam suhélaa. This is Nanak’s prayer, that he may be adorned with the True Name. ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Aap ga▫i▫aa sojʰee pa▫ee gur sabḋee mélaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o. When self-conceit is eradicated, and understanding is obtained, one meets the Lord, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||1||Pause|| ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ Ha▫umæ garab gavaa▫ee▫æ paa▫ee▫æ veechaar. Abandoning egotism and pride, one obtains contemplative understanding. ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ Saahib si▫o man maani▫aa ḋé saach aḋʰaar. ||2|| When the mind surrenders to the Lord Master, He bestows the support of the Truth. ||2|| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਈ ॥ Ahinis naam sanṫokʰee▫aa sévaa sach saa▫ee. Day and night, remain content with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; that is the true service. ਤਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਈ ਚਾਲੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ Ṫaa ka▫o bigʰan na laag▫ee chaalæ hukam rajaa▫ee. ||3|| No misfortune troubles one who follows the Command of the Lord’s Will. ||3|| ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸੋ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ॥ Hukam rajaa▫ee jo chalæ so pavæ kʰajaanæ. One who follows the Command of the Lord’s Will is taken into the Lord’s Treasury. ਖੋਟੇ ਠਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਰਲੇ ਜੂਠਾਨੈ ॥੪॥ Kʰoté tʰavar na paa▫inee ralé jootʰaanæ. ||4|| The counterfeits find no place there; they are mixed with the false ones. ||4|| ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਖਰਾ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ Niṫ niṫ kʰaraa samaalee▫æ sach sa▫uḋaa paa▫ee▫æ. Forever and ever, the genuine coins are treasured; with them, the true merchandise is purchased. ਖੋਟੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਲੇ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲਾਈਐ ॥੫॥ Kʰoté naḋar na aavnee lé agan jalaa▫ee▫æ. ||5|| The false ones are not seen in the Lord’s Treasury; they are seized and cast into the fire again. ||5|| ਜਿਨੀ ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਤਮੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ Jinee aaṫam cheeni▫aa parmaaṫam so▫ee. Those who understand their own souls, are themselves the Supreme Soul. ਏਕੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਲੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥ Éko amriṫ birakʰ hæ fal amriṫ ho▫ee. ||6|| The One Lord is the tree of ambrosial nectar, which bears the ambrosial fruit. ||6|| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥ Amriṫ fal jinee chaakʰi▫aa sach rahé agʰaa▫ee. Those who taste the ambrosial fruit remain satisfied with Truth. ਤਿੰਨਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭੇਦੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਈ ॥੭॥ Ṫinnaa bʰaram na bʰéḋ hæ har rasan rasaa▫ee. ||7|| They have no doubt or sense of separation - their tongues taste the divine taste. ||7|| ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਆਇਆ ਚਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ Hukam sanjogee aa▫i▫aa chal saḋaa rajaa▫ee. By His Command, and through your past actions, you came into the world; walk forever according to His Will. ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਨਕੈ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੮॥੨੦॥ A▫ogaṇi▫aaré ka▫o guṇ naankæ sach milæ vadaa▫ee. ||8||20|| Please, grant virtue to Nanak! The virtueless one; bless him with the glorious greatness of the Truth. ||8||20|| ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ Aasaa mėhlaa 1. Aasaa, First Mehl: ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥ Man raaṫa▫o har naa▫é sach vakʰaaṇi▫aa. One whose mind is attuned to the Lord’s Name speaks the truth. ਲੋਕਾ ਦਾ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਇ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ Lokaa ḋaa ki▫aa jaa▫é jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaaṇi▫aa. ||1|| What would the people lose, if I became pleasing to You, O Lord? ||1|| |
