When the body perishes, whose wealth is it? ibnu gur rwm nwmu kq lhIAY ] (416-1)bin gur raam naam kat lahee-ai. Without the Guru, how can the Lord's Name be obtained? rwm nwm Dnu sMig sKweI ] (416-2)raam naam Dhan sang sakhaa-ee. The wealth of the Lord's Name is my Companion and Helper. Without the Lord's Name, who is ours? suK duK sm kir nwmu n Cofau Awpy bKis imlwvxhwrw ]1] rhwau ] (416-3)sukh dukh sam kar naam na chhoda-o aapay bakhas milaavanhaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o. I look upon pleasure and pain alike; I shall not forsake the Naam, the Name of the Lord. O Lord, he alone chants the Naam, whom You have forgiven. dUqu n lwig skY gun gwie ]2] (416-4)doot na laag sakai gun gaa-ay. ||2|| Death cannot touch one who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2|| hir guru dwqw rwm gupwlw ] (416-5)har gur daataa raam gupaalaa. Meditative remembrance upon the Lord, Har, Har, destroys sins. qUM Awip Bulwvih nwmu ivswir ] (416-7)tooN aap bhulaaveh naam visaar. You Yourself cause us to stray from the path, and forget the Naam. qUM Awpy rwKih ikrpw Dwir ]4] (416-7)tooN aapay raakhahi kirpaa Dhaar. ||4|| Showering Your Mercy, You Yourself save us. ||4|| rogu Brmu Bydu min dUjw ] (416-7)rog bharam bhayd man doojaa. The mind is diseased with doubt, superstition and duality. gur ibnu Brim jpih jpu dUjw ] (416-8)gur bin bharam jaapeh jap doojaa. Without the Guru, it dwells in doubt, and contemplates duality. Awid purK gur drs n dyKih ] (416-8)aad purakh gur daras na daykheh. The Guru reveals the Darshan, the Blessed Vision of the Primal Lord. ivxu gur sbdY jnmu ik lyKih ]5] (416-8)vin gur sabdai janam ke laykheh. ||5|| Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, what use is human life? ||5|| dyiK Acrju rhy ibsmwid ] (416-9)daykh achraj rahay bismaad. Beholding the Marvellous Lord, I am wonder-struck and astonished. Git Git sur nr shj smwiD ] (416-9)ghat ghat sur nar sahj samaaDh. In each and every heart, of the angels and holy men, He dwells in celestial Samaadhi. Birpuir Dwir rhy mn mwhI ] (416-9)bharipur Dhaar rahay man maahee. I have enshrined the All-pervading Lord within my mind. qum smsir Avru ko nwhI ]6] (416-10)tum samsar avar ko naahee. ||6|| There is no one else equal to You. ||6|| jw kI Bgiq hyqu muiK nwmu ] (416-10)jaa kee bhagat hayt mukh naam. For the sake of devotional worship, we chant Your Name. sMq Bgq kI sMgiq rwmu ] (416-10)sant bhagat kee sangat raam. The Lord's devotees dwell in the Society of the Saints. bMDn qory shij iDAwnu ] (416-11)banDhan toray sahj Dhi-aan. Breaking his bonds, one comes to meditate on the Lord. CUtY gurmuiK hir gur igAwnu ]7] (416-11)chhootai gurmukh har gur gi-aan. ||7|| The Gurmukhs are emancipated, by the Guru-given knowledge of the Lord. ||7|| nw jmdUq dUKu iqsu lwgY ] (416-11)naa jamdoot dookh tis laagai. The Messenger of Death cannot touch him with pain; jo jnu rwm nwim ilv jwgY ] (416-12)jo jan raam naam liv jaagai. the Lord's humble servant remains awake to the Love of the Naam. Bgiq vClu Bgqw hir sMig ] (416-12)bhagat vachhal bhagtaa har sang. The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He dwells with His devotees. nwnk mukiq Bey hir rMig ]8]9] (416-12)naanak mukat bha-ay har rang. ||8||9|| O Nanak, they are liberated, through the Love of the Lord. ||8||9|| Awsw mhlw 1 iekqukI ] (416-13)aasaa mehlaa 1 iktukee. One who serves the Guru, knows his Lord and Master. dUKu imtY scu sbid pCwnY ]1] (416-13)dookh mitai sach sabad pachhaanai. ||1|| His pains are erased, and he realizes the True Word of the Shabad. ||1|| rwmu jphu myrI sKI sKYnI ] (416-14)raam japahu mayree sakhee sakhainee. Meditate on the Lord, O my friends and companions. siqguru syiv dyKhu pRBu nYnI ]1] rhwau ] (416-14)satgur sayv daykhhu parabh nainee. ||1|| rahaa-o. Serving the True Guru, you shall behold God with your eyes. ||1||Pause|| bMDn mwq ipqw sMswir ] (416-14)banDhan maat pitaa sansaar. People are entangled with mother, father and the world. bMDn suq kMinAw Aru nwir ]2] (416-15)banDhan sut kanniaa ar naar. ||2|| They are entangled with sons, daughters and spouses. ||2|| bMDn krm Drm hau kIAw ] (416-15)banDhan karam Dharam ha-o kee-aa. They are entangled with religious rituals, and religious faith, acting in ego. bMDn puqu klqu min bIAw ]3] (416-15)banDhan put kalat man bee-aa. ||3|| They are entangled with sons, wives and others in their minds. ||3|| bMDn ikrKI krih ikrswn ] (416-16)banDhan kirkhee karahi kirsaan. The farmers are entangled by farming. haumY fMnu shY rwjw mMgY dwn ]4] (416-16)ha-umai dann sahai raajaa mangai daan. ||4|| People suffer punishment in ego, and the Lord King exacts the penalty from them. ||4|| bMDn saudw AxvIcwrI ] (416-16)banDhan sa-udaa anveechaaree. They are entangled in trade without contemplation. iqpiq nwhI mwieAw moh pswrI ]5] (416-17)tipat naahee maa-i-aa moh pasaaree. ||5|| They are not satisfied by attachment to the expanse of Maya. ||5|| bMDn swh sMcih Dnu jwie ] (416-17)banDhan saah saNcheh Dhan jaa-ay. They are entangled with that wealth, amassed by bankers. ibnu hir Bgiq n pveI Qwie ]6] (416-17)bin har bhagat na pav-ee thaa-ay. ||6|| Without devotion to the Lord, they do not become acceptable. ||6|| bMDn bydu bwdu AhMkwr ] (416-18)banDhan bayd baad ahaNkaar. They are entangled with the Vedas, religious discussions and egotism. bMDin ibnsY moh ivkwr ]7] (416-18)banDhan binsai moh vikaar. ||7|| They are entangled, and perish in attachment and corruption. ||7|| nwnk rwm nwm srxweI ] (416-18)naanak raam naam sarnaa-ee. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Name. siqguir rwKy bMDu n pweI ]8]10] (416-19)satgur raakhay banDh na paa-ee. ||8||10|| One who is saved by the True Guru, does not suffer entanglement. ||8||10|| |
