ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ṫin kaa janam maraṇ ḋukʰ laaṫʰaa ṫé har ḋargėh milé subʰaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

their pains of birth and death are taken away. They are automatically ushered into the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਸਬਦੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Sabaḋ chaakʰæ saachaa saaḋ paa▫é.

One who has tasted the Shabad, obtains the true flavor.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

Har kaa naam man vasaa▫é.

The Name of the Lord abides within his mind.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

Har parabʰ saḋaa rahi▫aa bʰarpoor.

The Lord God is Eternal and All-pervading.

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥

Aapé néṛæ aapé ḋoor. ||2||

He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away. ||2||

ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖੈ ਬਕੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

Aakʰaṇ aakʰæ bakæ sabʰ ko▫é.

Everyone talks and speaks through speech;

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥

Aapé bakʰas milaa▫é so▫é.

the Lord Himself forgives, and unites us with Himself.

ਕਹਣੈ ਕਥਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

Kahṇæ kaṫʰan na paa▫i▫aa jaa▫é.

By merely speaking and talking, He is not obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥

Gur parsaaḋ vasæ man aa▫é. ||3||

By Guru’s Grace, He comes to abide in the mind. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

Gurmukʰ vichahu aap gavaa▫é.

The Gurmukh eradicates his self-conceit from within.

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥

Har rang raaṫé moh chukaa▫é.

He is imbued with the Lord’s Love, having discarded worldly attachment.

ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥

Aṫ nirmal gur sabaḋ veechaar.

He contemplates the utterly Immaculate Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੪॥੪੩॥

Naanak naam savaaraṇhaar. ||4||4||43||

O Nanak! The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is our Salvation. ||4||4||43||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Aasaa mėhlaa 3.

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é lagé ḋukʰ paa▫i▫aa.

Attached to the love of duality, one only incurs pain.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

Bin sabḋæ birṫʰaa janam gavaa▫i▫aa.

Without the Word of the Shabad, one’s life is wasted away in vain.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

Saṫgur sévæ sojʰee ho▫é.

Serving the True Guru, understanding is obtained,

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

Ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é na laagæ ko▫é. ||1||

and then, one is not attached to the love of duality. ||1||

ਮੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

Mool laagé sé jan parvaaṇ.

Those who hold fast to their roots, become acceptable.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

An▫ḋin raam naam jap hirḋæ gur sabḋee har éko jaaṇ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

Night and day, they meditate within their hearts on the Lord’s Name; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they know the One Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

Daalee laagæ nihfal jaa▫é.

One who is attached to the branch, does not receive the fruits.

ਅੰਧੀ ਕੰਮੀ ਅੰਧ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

Aⁿḋʰeeⁿ kammee anḋʰ sajaa▫é.

For blind actions, blind punishment is received.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

Manmukʰ anḋʰaa tʰa▫ur na paa▫é.

The blind, self-willed Manmukh finds no place of rest.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੨॥

Bistaa kaa keeṛaa bistaa maahi pachaa▫é. ||2||

He is a maggot in manure, and in manure he shall rot away. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Gur kee sévaa saḋaa sukʰ paa▫é.

Serving the Guru, everlasting peace is obtained.

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥

Sanṫsangaṫ mil har guṇ gaa▫é.

Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung.

ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

Naamé naam karé veechaar.

One who contemplates the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

Aap ṫaræ kul uḋʰraṇhaar. ||3||

saves himself, and his family as well. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥

Gur kee baṇee naam vajaa▫é.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Bani, the Naam resounds;

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Naanak mahal sabaḋ gʰar paa▫é.

O Nanak! Through the Word of the Shabad, one finds the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence within the home of the heart.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥

Gurmaṫ saṫ sar har jal naa▫i▫aa.

Under Guru’s Instruction, bathe in the Pool of Truth, in the Water of the Lord;

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥

Ḋurmaṫ mæl sabʰ ḋuraṫ gavaa▫i▫aa. ||4||5||44||

Thus, the filth of evil-mindedness and sin shall all be washed away. ||4||5||44||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Aasaa mėhlaa 3.

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਹਿ ॥

Manmukʰ marėh mar maraṇ vigaaṛėh.

The self-willed Manmukhs are dying; they are wasting away in death.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਆਤਮ ਸੰਘਾਰਹਿ ॥

Ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é aaṫam sangʰaarėh.

In the love of duality, they murder their own souls.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ॥

Méraa méraa kar kar vigooṫaa.

Crying out, “Mine, mine!”, they are ruined.

ਆਤਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੑੈ ਭਰਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥

Aaṫam na cheenĥæ bʰarmæ vich sooṫaa. ||1||

They do not remember their souls; they are asleep in superstition. ||1||

ਮਰੁ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

Mar mu▫i▫aa sabḋé mar jaa▫é.

He alone dies a real death, who dies in the Word of the Shabad.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮ ਜਾਣਾਈ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Usṫaṫ ninḋaa gur sam jaaṇaa▫ee is jug mėh laahaa har jap læ jaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

The Guru has inspired me to realize, that praise and slander are one and the same; in this world, the profit is obtained by chanting the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਗਰਭ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

Naam vihooṇ garabʰ gal jaa▫é.

Those who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are dissolved within the womb.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇ ॥

Birṫʰaa janam ḋoojæ lobʰaa▫é.

Useless is the birth of those who are lured by duality.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥

Naam bihooṇee ḋukʰ jalæ sabaa▫ee.

Without the Naam, all are burning in pain.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥

Saṫgur pooræ boojʰ bujʰaa▫ee. ||2||

The Perfect True Guru has given me this understanding. ||2||

ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਹੁ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

Man chanchal baho chotaa kʰaa▫é.

The fickle mind is struck down so many times.

ਏਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

Éṫʰahu chʰuṛki▫aa tʰa▫ur na paa▫é.

Having lost this opportunity, no place of rest shall be found.

ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥

Garabʰ jon vistaa kaa vaas.

Cast into the womb of reincarnation, the mortal lives in manure;

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥

Ṫiṫ gʰar manmukʰ karé nivaas. ||3||

in such a home, the self-willed Manmukh takes up residence. ||3||

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

Apuné saṫgur ka▫o saḋaa bal jaa▫ee.

I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru;

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥

Gurmukʰ joṫee joṫ milaa▫ee.

the light of the Gurmukh blends with the Divine Light of the Lord.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

Nirmal baṇee nij gʰar vaasaa.

Through the Immaculate Bani of the Word, the mortal dwells within the home of his own inner self.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥

Naanak ha▫umæ maaré saḋaa uḋaasaa. ||4||6||45||

O Nanak! He conquers his ego, and remains forever detached. ||4||6||45||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Aasaa, Third Mehl:

ਲਾਲੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥

Laalæ aapṇee jaaṫ gavaa▫ee.

The Lord’s slave sets aside his own social status.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

Ṫan man arpé saṫgur sarṇaa▫ee.

He dedicates his mind and body to the True Guru, and seeks His Sanctuary.
