Aws ipAwsI syjY Awvw ] (357-1)
aas pi-aasee sayjai aavaa.
With hope and desire, I approach His Bed,

AwgY sh Bwvw ik n Bwvw ]2] (357-1)
aagai sah bhaavaa ke na bhaavaa. ||2||
but I do not know whether He will be pleased with me or not. ||2||

ikAw jwnw ikAw hoiegw rI mweI ] (357-1)
ki-aa jaanaa ki-aa ho-igaa ree maa-ee.
How do I know what will happen to me, O my mother?

hir drsn ibnu rhnu n jweI ]1] rhwau ] (357-1)
har darsan bin rahan na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, I cannot survive. ||1||Pause||

pRymu n cwiKAw myrI iqs n buJwnI ] (357-2)
paraym na chaakhi-aa mayree tis na bujhaanee.
I have not tasted His Love, and my thirst is not quenched.

gieAw su jobnu Dn pCuqwnI ]3] (357-2)
ga-i-aa so joban Dhan pachhutaanee. ||3||
My beautiful youth has run away, and now I, the soul-bride, repent and regret. ||3||

AjY su jwgau Aws ipAwsI ] (357-3)
ajai so jaaga-o aas pi-aasee.
Even now, I am held by hope and desire.

BeIly audwsI rhau inrwsI ]1] rhwau ] (357-3)
bha-eelay udaasee raha-o niraasee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I am depressed; I have no hope at all. ||1||Pause||

haumY Koie kry sIgwru ] (357-4)
ha-umai kho-ay karay seegaar.
She overcomes her egotism, and adorns herself;

qau kwmix syjY rvY Bqwru ]4] (357-4)
ta-o kaaman sayjai ravai bhataar. ||4||
the Husband Lord now ravishes and enjoys the soul-bride on His Bed. ||4||

qau nwnk kMqY min BwvY ] (357-4)
ta-o naanak kantai man bhaavai.
Then, O Nanak, the bride becomes pleasing to the Mind of her Husband Lord;

Coif vfweI Apxy Ksm smwvY ]1] rhwau ]26] (357-4)
chhod vadaa-ee apnay khasam samaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o. ||26||
she sheds her self-conceit, and is absorbed in her Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||26||

aasaa mehlaa 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

pyvkVY Dn KrI ieAwxI ] (357-5)
payvkarhai Dhan kharee i-aanee.
In this world of my father's house, I, the soul-bride, have been very childish;

iqsu sh kI mY swr n jwxI ]1] (357-6)
tis sah kee mai saar na jaanee. ||1||
I did not realize the value of my Husband Lord. ||1||

shu myrw eyku dUjw nhI koeI ] (357-6)
saho mayraa ayk doojaa nahee ko-ee.
My Husband is the One; there is no other like Him.

ndir kry mylwvw hoeI ]1] rhwau ] (357-6)
nadar karay maylaavaa ho-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If He bestows His Glance of Grace, then I shall meet Him. ||1||Pause||

swhurVY Dn swcu pCwixAw ] (357-7)
saahurrhai Dhan saach pachhaani-aa.
In the next world of my in-law's house, I, the the soul-bride, shall realize Truth;

shij suBwie Apxw ipru jwixAw ]2] (357-7)
sahj subhaa-ay apnaa pir jaani-aa. ||2||
I shall come to know the celestial peace of my Husband Lord. ||2||

gur prswdI AYsI miq AwvY ] (357-8)
gur parsaadee aisee mat aavai.
By Guru's Grace, such wisdom comes to me,

qW kwmix kMqY min BwvY ]3] (357-8)
taaN kaaman kantai man bhaavai. ||3||
so that the soul-bride becomes pleasing to the Mind of the Husband Lord. ||3||

khqu nwnku BY Bwv kw kry sIgwru ] (357-8)
kahat naanak bhai bhaav kaa karay seegaar.
Says Nanak, she who adorns herself with the Love and the Fear of God,

sd hI syjY rvY Bqwru ]4]27] (357-9)
sad hee sayjai ravai bhataar. ||4||27||
enjoys her Husband Lord forever on His Bed. ||4||27||

aasaa mehlaa 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

n iks kw pUqu n iks kI mweI ] (357-9)
na kis kaa poot na kis kee maa-ee.
No one is anyone else's son, and no one is anyone else's mother.

JUTY moih Brim BulweI ]1] (357-9)
jhoothai mohi bharam bhulaa-ee. ||1||
Through false attachments, people wander around in doubt. ||1||

myry swihb hau kIqw qyrw ] (357-10)
mayray saahib ha-o keetaa tayraa.
O My Lord and Master, I am created by You.

jW qUM dyih jpI nwau qyrw ]1] rhwau ] (357-10)
jaaN tooN deh japee naa-o tayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If You give it to me, I will chant Your Name. ||1||Pause||

bhuqy Aaugx kUkY koeI ] (357-10)
bahutay a-ugan kookai ko-ee.
That person who is filled with all sorts of sins may pray at the Lord's Door,

jw iqsu BwvY bKsy soeI ]2] (357-11)
jaa tis bhaavai bakhsay so-ee. ||2||
but he is forgiven only when the Lord so wills. ||2||

gur prswdI durmiq KoeI ] (357-11)
gur parsaadee durmat kho-ee.
By Guru's Grace, evil-mindedness is destroyed.

jh dyKw qh eyko soeI ]3] (357-11)
jah daykhaa tah ayko so-ee. ||3||
Wherever I look, there I find the One Lord. ||3||

khq nwnk AYsI miq AwvY ] (357-12)
kahat naanak aisee mat aavai.
Says Nanak, if one comes to such an understanding,

taaN ko sachay sach samaavai. ||4||28||
then he is absorbed into the Truest of the True. ||4||28||

aasaa mehlaa 1 dupday.
Aasaa, First Mehl, Du-Padas:

iqqu srvrVY BeIly invwsw pwxI pwvku iqnih kIAw ] (357-13)
tit saravrarhai bha-eelay nivaasaa paanee paavak tineh kee-aa.
In that pool of the world, the people have their homes; there, the Lord has created water and fire.

pMkju moh pgu nhI cwlY hm dyKw qh fUbIAly ]1] (357-13)
pankaj moh pag nahee chaalai ham daykhaa tah doobee-alay. ||1||
In the mud of earthly attachment, their feet have become mired, and I have seen them drowning there. ||1||

mn eyku n cyqis mUV mnw ] (357-14)
man ayk na chaytas moorh manaa.
O foolish people, why don't you remember the One Lord?

hir ibsrq qyry gux gilAw ]1] rhwau ] (357-14)
har bisrat tayray gun gali-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Forgetting the Lord, your virtues shall wither away. ||1||Pause||

nw hau jqI sqI nhI piVAw mUrK mugDw jnmu BieAw ] (357-15)
naa ha-o jatee satee nahee parhi-aa moorakh mugDhaa janam bha-i-aa.
I am not a celibate, nor am I truthful, nor a scholar; I was born foolish and ignorant.

paranvat naanak tinH kee sarnaa jinH tooN naahee veesri-aa. ||2||29||
Prays Nanak, I seek the Sanctuary of those who do not forget You, Lord. ||2||29||

iCA Gr iCA gur iCA aupdys ] (357-16)
chhi-a ghar chhi-a gur chhi-a updays.
There are six systems of philosophy, six teachers, and six doctrines;

gur guru eyko vys Anyk ]1] (357-16)
gur gur ayko vays anayk. ||1||
but the Teacher of teachers is the One Lord, who appears in so many forms. ||1||

jY Gir krqy kIriq hoie ] (357-17)
jai ghar kartay keerat ho-ay.
That system, where the Praises of the Creator are sung

so Gru rwKu vfweI qoih ]1] rhwau ] (357-17)
so ghar raakh vadaa-ee tohi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
- follow that system; in it rests greatness. ||1||Pause||

ivsuey cisAw GVIAw phrw iQqI vwrI mwhu BieAw ] sUrju eyko ruiq Anyk ] (357-17)
visu-ay chasi-aa gharhee-aa pahraa thitee vaaree maahu bha-i-aa. sooraj ayko rut anayk.
As the seconds, minutes, hours, days, weekdays months and seasons all originate from the one sun,

nwnk krqy ky kyqy vys ]2]30] (357-18)
naanak kartay kay kaytay vays. ||2||30||
O Nanak, so do all forms originate from the One Creator. ||2||30||
