ਮਨ ਚੂਰੇ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਜਾਣੁ ॥

Man chooré kʰat ḋarsan jaaṇ.

To conquer the mind is the knowledge of the six Shastras.

ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Sarab joṫ pooran bʰagvaan. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

The Divine Light of the Lord God is perfectly pervading. ||1||Pause||

ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਆਸ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੈ ॥

Aḋʰik ṫi▫aas bʰékʰ baho karæ.

Excessive thirst for Maya makes people wear all sorts of religious robes.

ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥

Ḋukʰ bikʰi▫aa sukʰ ṫan par▫haræ.

The pain of corruption destroys the body’s peace.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥

Kaam kroḋʰ anṫar ḋʰan hiræ.

Sexual desire and anger steal the wealth of the self within.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥੨॥

Ḋubiḋʰaa chʰod naam nisṫaræ. ||2||

But by abandoning duality, one is emancipated through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ॥

Sifaṫ salaahaṇ sahj anand.

In the Lord’s Praise and adoration is intuitive peace, poise and bliss.

ਸਖਾ ਸੈਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥

Sakʰaa sæn parém gobinḋ.

The Love of the Lord God is one’s family and friends.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥

Aapé karé aapé bakʰsinḋ.

He Himself is the Doer, and He Himself is the Forgiver.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੩॥

Ṫan man har pėh aagæ jinḋ. ||3||

My body and mind belong to the Lord; my life is at His Command. ||3||

ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹ ॥

Jʰootʰ vikaar mahaa ḋukʰ ḋéh.

Falsehood and corruption cause terrible suffering.

ਭੇਖ ਵਰਨ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਹ ॥

Bʰékʰ varan ḋeesėh sabʰ kʰéh.

All the religious robes and social classes look just like dust.

ਜੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

Jo upjæ so aavæ jaa▫é.

Whoever is born, continues to come and go.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

Naanak asṫʰir naam rajaa▫é. ||4||11||

O Nanak! Only the Naam and the Lord’s Command are eternal and everlasting. ||4||11||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Aasaa mėhlaa 1.

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਏਕੋ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਕਮਲ ਅਨੂਪ ॥

Éko sarvar kamal anoop.

In the pool is the one incomparably beautiful lotus.

ਸਦਾ ਬਿਗਾਸੈ ਪਰਮਲ ਰੂਪ ॥

Saḋaa bigaasæ parmal roop.

It blossoms continually; its form is pure and fragrant.

ਊਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਚੂਗਹਿ ਹੰਸ ॥

Oojal moṫee choogėh hans.

The swans pick up the bright jewels.

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ਅੰਸ ॥੧॥

Sarab kalaa jagḋeesæ aⁿs. ||1||

They take on the essence of the All-powerful Lord of the Universe. ||1||

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ॥

Jo ḋeesæ so upjæ binsæ.

Whoever is seen, is subject to birth and death.

ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Bin jal sarvar kamal na ḋeesæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

In the pool without water, the lotus is not seen. ||1||Pause||

ਬਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਭੇਦੁ ॥

Birlaa boojʰæ paavæ bʰéḋ.

How rare are those who know and understand this secret.

ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਬੇਦੁ ॥

Saakʰaa ṫeen kahæ niṫ béḋ.

The Vedas continually speak of the three branches.

ਨਾਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਕੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Naaḋ binḋ kee suraṫ samaa▫é.

One who merges into the knowledge of the Lord as absolute and related,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

Saṫgur sév param paḋ paa▫é. ||2||

serves the True Guru and obtains the supreme-status. ||2||

ਮੁਕਤੋ ਰਾਤਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵਾਂਤਉ ॥

Mukṫo raaṫa▫o rang ravaaⁿṫa▫o.

One who is imbued with the Love of the Lord and dwells continually upon Him is liberated.

ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਜਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਗਸਾਂਤਉ ॥

Raajan raaj saḋaa bigsaaⁿṫa▫o.

He is the king of kings, and blossoms forth continually.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

Jis ṫooⁿ raakʰahi kirpaa ḋʰaar.

That one whom You preserve, by bestowing Your Mercy, O Lord,

ਬੂਡਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਾਰਹਿ ਤਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

Boodaṫ paahan ṫaarėh ṫaar. ||3||

even the sinking stone - You float that one across. ||3||

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥

Ṫaribʰavaṇ mėh joṫ ṫaribʰavaṇ mėh jaaṇi▫aa.

Your Light is pervading the three worlds; I know that You are permeating the three worlds.

ਉਲਟ ਭਈ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥

Ulat bʰa▫ee gʰar gʰar mėh aaṇi▫aa.

When my mind turned away from Maya, I came to dwell in my own home.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

Ahinis bʰagaṫ karé liv laa▫é.

He who immerses himself in the Lord’s Love and performs devotional worship day and night,

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੨॥

Naanak ṫin kæ laagæ paa▫é. ||4||12||

Nanak falls at the feet of that person. ||4||12||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Aasaa mėhlaa 1.

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

Gurmaṫ saachee hujaṫ ḋoor.

Receiving the True Teachings from the Guru, arguments depart.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਲਾਗੈ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

Bahuṫ si▫aaṇap laagæ ḋʰoor.

But through excessive cleverness, one is only plastered with dirt.

ਲਾਗੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਇ ॥

Laagee mæl mitæ sach naa▫é.

The filth of attachment is removed by the True Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

Gur parsaaḋ rahæ liv laa▫é. ||1||

By Guru’s Grace, one remains lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||

ਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

Hæ hajoor haajar arḋaas.

He is the Presence Ever-present; offer your prayers to Him.

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ḋukʰ sukʰ saach karṫé parabʰ paas. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

Pain and pleasure are in the Hands of God, the True Creator. ||1||Pause||

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

Kooṛ kamaavæ aavæ jaavæ.

One who practices falsehood comes and goes.

ਕਹਣਿ ਕਥਨਿ ਵਾਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥

Kahaṇ kaṫʰan vaaraa nahee aavæ.

By speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.

ਕਿਆ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

Ki▫aa ḋékʰaa soojʰ boojʰ na paavæ.

Whatever one sees, is not understood.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥

Bin naavæ man ṫaripaṫ na aavæ. ||2||

Without the Name, satisfaction does not enter into the mind. ||2||

ਜੋ ਜਨਮੇ ਸੇ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥

Jo janmé sé rog vi▫aapé.

Whoever is born is afflicted by disease,

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥

Ha▫umæ maa▫i▫aa ḋookʰ sanṫaapé.

tortured by the pain of egotism and Maya.

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬਾਚੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥

Sé jan baaché jo parabʰ raakʰé.

They alone are saved, who are protected by God.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੩॥

Saṫgur sév amriṫ ras chaakʰé. ||3||

Serving the True Guru, they drink the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar. ||3||

ਚਲਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥

Chalṫa▫o man raakʰæ amriṫ chaakʰæ.

The unstable mind is restrained by tasting this Nectar.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਾਖੈ ॥

Saṫgur sév amriṫ sabaḋ bʰaakʰæ.

Serving the True Guru, one comes to cherish the Ambrosial Nectar of the Shabad.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

Saachæ sabaḋ mukaṫ gaṫ paa▫é.

Through the True Word of the Shabad, the state of liberation is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੩॥

Naanak vichahu aap gavaa▫é. ||4||13||

O Nanak! Self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||13||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Aasaa mėhlaa 1.

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਜੋ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਥੀਆ ॥

Jo ṫin kee▫aa so sach ṫʰee▫aa.

Whatever He has done, has proved to be true.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥

Amriṫ naam saṫgur ḋee▫aa.

The True Guru bestows the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥

Hirḋæ naam naahee man bʰang.

With the Naam in the heart, the mind is not separated from the Lord.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਗੁ ॥੧॥

An▫ḋin naal pi▫aaré sang. ||1||

Night and day, one dwells with the Beloved. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

Har jee▫o raakʰo apnee sarṇaa▫ee.

O Lord, please keep me in the Protection of Your Sanctuary.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Gur parsaadee har ras paa▫i▫aa naam paḋaaraṫʰ na▫o niḋʰ paa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

By Guru’s Grace, I have obtained the sublime essence of the Lord; I have received the wealth of the Naam and the nine treasures. ||1||Pause||
