jo mwry iqin pwrbRhim sy iksY n sMdy ] (317-1)
jo maaray tin paarbarahm say kisai na sanday.
Those who are struck down by the Supreme Lord God do not belong to anyone.

vYru krin inrvYr nwil Drim inAwie pcMdy ] (317-1)
vair karan nirvair naal Dharam ni-aa-ay pachanday.
Those who hate the One who has no hatred, are destroyed by righteous justice.

jo jo sMiq srwipAw sy iPrih BvMdy ] (317-2)
jo jo sant saraapi-aa say fireh bhavanday.
Those who are cursed by the Saints wander around lost.

pyfu muMFwhU kitAw iqsu fwl sukMdy ]31] (317-2)
payd mundhaahoo kati-aa tis daal sukanday. ||31||
When the tree is cut off at its roots, the branches wither and die. ||31||

gur nwnk hir nwmu idRVwieAw BMnx GVx smrQu ] (317-3)
gur naanak har naam drirh-aa-i-aa bhannan gharhan samrath.
Guru Nanak implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; He is All-powerful, to create and destroy.

pRBu sdw smwlih imqR qU duKu sbwieAw lQu ]1] (317-3)
parabh sadaa samaaleh mitar too dukh sabaa-i-aa lath. ||1||
Remember God forever, my friend, and all your suffering will disappear. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

KuiDAwvMqu n jwxeI lwj kulwj kubolu ] (317-4)
khuDhi-aavant na jaan-ee laaj kulaaj kubol.
The hungry person does not care about honor, dishonor or harsh words.

nwnku mWgY nwmu hir kir ikrpw sMjogu ]2] (317-4)
naanak maaNgai naam har kar kirpaa sanjog. ||2||
Nanak begs for the Name of the Lord; please grant Your Grace, and unite me with Yourself. ||2||

Pauree:

jyvyhy krm kmwvdw qyvyhy Plqy ] (317-5)
javayhay karam kamaavdaa tavayhay faltay.
According to the deeds which one does, so are the fruits one obtains.

chabay tataa loh saar vich sanghai paltay.
If someone chews on red-hot iron, his throat will be burned.

Giq glwvW cwilAw iqin dUiq Aml qy ] (317-6)
ghat galaavaaN chaali-aa tin doot amal tay.
The halter is put around his neck and he is led away, because of the evil deeds he has done.

kweI Aws n puMnIAw inq pr mlu ihrqy ] (317-6)
kaa-ee aas na punnee-aa nit par mal hirtay.
None of his desires are fulfilled; he continually steals the filth of others.

kIAw n jwxY AikrqGx ivic jonI iPrqy ] (317-7)
kee-aa na jaanai aakirat-ghan vich jonee firtay.
The ungrateful wretch does not appreciate what he has been given; he wanders lost in reincarnation.

sBy iDrW inKutIAsu ihir leIAsu Dr qy ] (317-7)
sabhay DhiraaN nikhutee-as hir la-ee-as Dhar tay.
He loses all support, when the Support of the Lord is taken away from him.

ivJx klh n dyvdw qW lieAw krqy ] (317-8)
vijhan kalah na dayvdaa taaN la-i-aa kartay.
He does not let the embers of strife die down, and so the Creator destroys him.

jo jo kartay ahamay-o jharh Dhartee parh-tay. ||32||
Those who indulge in egotism crumble and fall to the ground. ||32||

Shalok, Third Mehl:

gurmuiK igAwnu ibbyk buiD hoie ] (317-9)
gurmukh gi-aan bibayk buDh ho-ay.
The Gurmukh is blessed with spiritual wisdom and a discerning intellect.

hir gux gwvY ihrdY hwru proie ] (317-9)
har gun gaavai hirdai haar paro-ay.
He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and weaves this garland into his heart.

pivqu pwvnu prm bIcwrI ] (317-9)
pavit paavan param beechaaree.
He becomes the purest of the pure, a being of supreme understanding.

ij Esu imlY iqsu pwir auqwrI ] (317-10)
je os milai tis paar utaaree.
Whoever he meets, he saves and carries across.

AMqir hir nwmu bwsnw smwxI ] (317-10)
antar har naam baasnaa samaanee.
The fragrance of the Lord's Name permeates his being deep within.

hir dir soBw mhw auqm bwxI ] (317-10)
har dar sobhaa mahaa utam banee.
He is honored in the Court of the Lord, and his speech is the most sublime.

ij purKu suxY su hoie inhwlu ] (317-11)
je purakh sunai so ho-ay nihaal.
Those who hear him are delighted.

nwnk siqgur imilAY pwieAw nwmu Dnu mwlu ]1] (317-11)
naanak satgur mili-ai paa-i-aa naam Dhan maal. ||1||
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one obtains the wealth and property of the Naam. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:

siqgur ky jIA kI swr n jwpY ik pUrY siqgur BwvY ] (317-12)
satgur kay jee-a kee saar na jaapai ke poorai satgur bhaavai.
The sublime state of the True Guru is not known; no one knows what pleases the Perfect True Guru.

gurisKW AMdir siqgurU vrqY jo isKW no locY so gur KusI AwvY ] (317-12)
gursikhaaN andar satguroo vartai jo sikhaaN no lochai so gur khusee aavai.
Deep within the hearts of His GurSikhs, the True Guru is pervading. The Guru is pleased with those who long for His Sikhs.

siqgur AwKY su kwr kmwvin su jpu kmwvih gurisKW kI Gwl scw Qwie pwvY ] (317-13)
satgur aakhai so kaar kamaavan so jap kamaaveh gursikhaaN kee ghaal sachaa thaa-ay paavai.
As the True Guru directs them, they do their work and chant their prayers. The True Lord accepts the service of His GurSikhs.

ivxu siqgur ky hukmY ij gurisKW pwshu kMmu krwieAw loVy iqsu gurisKu iPir nyiV n AwvY ] (317-14)
vin satgur kay hukmai je gursikhaaN paashu kamm karaa-i-aa lorhay tis gursikh fir nayrh na aavai.
But those who want the GurSikhs to work for them, without the Order of the True Guru - the Guru's Sikhs shall not come near them again.

gur siqgur AgY ko jIau lwie GwlY iqsu AgY gurisKu kwr kmwvY ] (317-15)
gur satgur agai ko jee-o laa-ay ghaalai tis agai gursikh kaar kamaavai.
One who works diligently for the Guru, the True Guru - the GurSikhs work for him.

ij TgI AwvY TgI auiT jwie iqsu nyVY gurisKu mUil n AwvY ] (317-15)
je thagee aavai thagee uth jaa-ay tis nayrhai gursikh mool na aavai.
One who comes to deceive, who rises up and goes out to deceive - the GurSikhs shall never come near him.

bRhmu bIcwru nwnku AwiK suxwvY ] (317-16)
barahm beechaar naanak aakh sunaavai.
Nanak proclaims and announces this wisdom of God.

ij ivxu siqgur ky mnu mMny kMmu krwey so jMqu mhw duKu pwvY ]2] (317-16)
je vin satgur kay man mannay kamm karaa-ay so jant mahaa dukh paavai. ||2||
One who is not pleasing to the Mind of the True Guru may do his deeds, but that being will only suffer in terrible pain. ||2||

Pauree:

qUM scw swihbu Aiq vfw quih jyvfu qUM vf vfy ] (317-17)
tooN sachaa saahib at vadaa tuhi jayvad tooN vad vaday.
O True Lord and Master, You are so very great. As great as You are, You are the greatest of the great.

ijsu qUM mylih so quDu imlY qUM Awpy bKis lYih lyKw Cfy ] (317-18)
jis tooN mayleh so tuDh milai tooN aapay bakhas laihi laykhaa chhaday.
He alone is united with You, whom You unite with Yourself. You Yourself bless and forgive us, and tear up our accounts.

ijs no qUM Awip imlwiedw so siqguru syvy mnu gf gfy ] (317-18)
jis no tooN aap milaa-idaa so satgur sayvay man gad gaday.
One whom You unite with Yourself, whole-heartedly serves the True Guru.

qUM scw swihbu scu qU sBu jIau ipMfu cMmu qyrw hfy ] (317-19)
tooN sachaa saahib sach too sabh jee-o pind chamm tayraa haday.
You are the True One, the True Lord and Master; my soul, body, flesh and bones are all Yours.

ijau BwvY iqau rKu qUM sicAw nwnk min Aws qyrI vf vfy ]33]1] suDu ] (317-19)
ji-o bhaavai ti-o rakh tooN sachi-aa naanak man aas tayree vad vaday. ||33||1|| suDh.
If it pleases You, then save me, True Lord. Nanak places the hopes of his mind in You alone, O greatest of the great! ||33||1|| Sudh||
