gur kaa sabad amrit ras chaakh.
Taste the ambrosial essence, the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

Avir jqn khhu kaun kwj ] (178-1)
avar jatan kahhu ka-un kaaj.
Of what use are other efforts?

kir ikrpw rwKY Awip lwj ]2] (178-1)
kar kirpaa raakhai aap laaj. ||2||
Showing His Mercy, the Lord Himself protects our honor. ||2||

ikAw mwnuK khhu ikAw joru ] (178-2)
ki-aa maanukh kahhu ki-aa jor.
What is the human? What power does he have?

JUTw mwieAw kw sBu soru ] (178-2)
jhoothaa maa-i-aa kaa sabh sor.
All the tumult of Maya is false.

krx krwvnhwr suAwmI ] (178-2)
karan karaavanhaar su-aamee.
Our Lord and Master is the One who acts, and causes others to act.

sgl Gtw ky AMqrjwmI ]3] (178-3)
sagal ghataa kay antarjaamee. ||3||
He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of all hearts. ||3||

srb suKw suKu swcw eyhu ] (178-3)
sarab sukhaa sukh saachaa ayhu.
Of all comforts, this is the true comfort.

gur updays manai meh layho.
Keep the Guru's Teachings in your mind.

jaa ka-o raam naam liv laagee.
Those who bear love for the Name of the Lord

kaho naanak so Dhan vadbhaagee. ||4||7||76||
- says Nanak, they are blessed, and very fortunate. ||4||7||76||

sun har kathaa utaaree mail.
Listening to the Lord's sermon, my pollution has been washed away.

mhw punIq Bey suK sYlu ] (178-5)
mahaa puneet bha-ay sukh sail.
I have become totally pure, and I now walk in peace.

vadai bhaag paa-i-aa saaDhsang.
By great good fortune, I found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;

paarbarahm si-o laago rang. ||1||
I have fallen in love with the Supreme Lord God. ||1||

har har naam japat jan taari-o.
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, His servant has been carried across.

Agin swgru guir pwir auqwirE ]1] rhwau ] (178-6)
agan saagar gur paar utaari-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru has lifted me up and carried me across the ocean of fire. ||1||Pause||

kar keertan man seetal bha-ay.
Singing the Kirtan of His Praises, my mind has become peaceful;

jnm jnm ky iklivK gey ] (178-7)
janam janam kay kilvikh ga-ay.
the sins of countless incarnations have been washed away.

srb inDwn pyKy mn mwih ] (178-7)
sarab niDhaan paykhay man maahi.
I have seen all the treasures within my own mind;

Ab FUFn kwhy kau jwih ]2] (178-7)
ab dhoodhan kaahay ka-o jaahi. ||2||
why should I now go out searching for them? ||2||

pRB Apuny jb Bey dieAwl ] (178-8)
parabh apunay jab bha-ay da-i-aal.
When God Himself becomes merciful,

pUrn hoeI syvk Gwl ] (178-8)
pooran ho-ee sayvak ghaal.
the work of His servant becomes perfect.

bMDn kwit kIey Apny dws ] (178-8)
banDhan kaat kee-ay apnay daas.
He has cut away my bonds, and made me His slave.

simar simar simar guntaas. ||3||
Remember, remember, remember Him in meditation; He is the treasure of excellence. ||3||

eyko min eyko sB Twie ] (178-9)
ayko man ayko sabh thaa-ay.
He alone is in the mind; He alone is everywhere.

pUrn pUir rihE sB jwie ] (178-9)
pooran poor rahi-o sabh jaa-ay.
The Perfect Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere.

gur poorai sabh bharam chukaa-i-aa.
The Perfect Guru has dispelled all doubts.

Remembering the Lord in meditation, Nanak has found peace. ||4||8||77||

aglay mu-ay se paachhai paray.
Those who have died have been forgotten.

jo ubray say banDh lak kharay.
Those who survive have fastened their belts.

ijh DMDy mih Eie lptwey ] (178-11)
jih DhanDhay meh o-ay laptaa-ay.
They are busily occupied in their affairs;

aun qy dugux idVI aun mwey ]1] (178-12)
un tay dugun dirhee un maa-ay. ||1||
they cling twice as hard to Maya. ||1||

Eh bylw kCu cIiq n AwvY ] (178-12)
oh baylaa kachh cheet na aavai.
No one thinks of the time of death;

ibnis jwie qwhU lptwvY ]1] rhwau ] (178-12)
binas jaa-ay taahoo laptaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
people grasp to hold that which shall pass away. ||1||Pause||

Awsw bMDI mUrK dyh ] (178-13)
aasaa banDhee moorakh dayh.
The fools - their bodies are bound down by desires.

kwm k®oD lpitE Asnyh ] (178-13)
kaam kroDh lapti-o asnayh.
They are mired in sexual desire, anger and attachment;

isr aUpir TwFo Drm rwie ] (178-13)
sir oopar thaadho Dharam raa-ay.
the Righteous Judge of Dharma stands over their heads.

mITI kir kir ibiKAw Kwie ]2] (178-14)
meethee kar kar bikhi-aa khaa-ay. ||2||
Believing it to be sweet, the fools eat poison. ||2||

hau bMDau hau swDau bYru ] hmrI BUim kauxu GwlY pYru ] (178-14)
ha-o banDha-o ha-o saaDha-o bair. hamree bhoom ka-un ghaalai pair.
They say, "I shall tie up my enemy, and I shall cut him down. Who dares to set foot upon my land?

hau pMifqu hau cquru isAwxw ] (178-15)
ha-o pandit ha-o chatur si-aanaa.
I am learned, I am clever and wise."

krxYhwru n buJY ibgwnw ]3] (178-15)
karnaihaar na bujhai bigaanaa. ||3||
The ignorant ones do not recognize their Creator. ||3||

ApunI giq imiq Awpy jwnY ] (178-15)
apunee gat mit aapay jaanai.
The Lord Himself knows His Own state and condition.

ikAw ko khY ikAw AwiK vKwnY ] (178-16)
ki-aa ko kahai ki-aa aakh vakhaanai.
What can anyone say? How can anyone describe Him?

ijqu ijqu lwvih iqqu iqqu lgnw ] (178-16)
jit jit laaveh tit tit lagnaa.
Whatever He attaches us to - to that we are attached.

Apnw Blw sB kwhU mMgnw ]4] (178-16)
apnaa bhalaa sabh kaahoo mangnaa. ||4||
Everyone begs for their own good. ||4||

sB ikCu qyrw qUM krxYhwru ] (178-17)
sabh kichh tayraa tooN karnaihaar.
Everything is Yours; You are the Creator Lord.

AMqu nwhI ikCu pwrwvwru ] (178-17)
ant naahee kichh paaraavaar.
You have no end or limitation.

dws Apny kau dIjY dwnu ] (178-17)
daas apnay ka-o deejai daan.
Please give this gift to Your servant,

kabhoo na visrai naanak naam. ||5||9||78||
that Nanak might never forget the Naam. ||5||9||78||

Aink jqn nhI hoq Cutwrw ] (178-18)
anik jatan nahee hot chhutaaraa.
By all sorts of efforts, people do not find salvation.

bhuqu isAwxp Awgl Bwrw ] (178-19)
bahut si-aanap aagal bhaaraa.
Through clever tricks, the weight is only piled on more and more.

har kee sayvaa nirmal hayt.
Serving the Lord with a pure heart,

parabh kee dargeh sobhaa sayt. ||1||
you shall be received with honor at God's Court. ||1||
