Bgiq krih mUrK Awpu jxwvih ] (159-1)
bhagat karahi moorakh aap janaaveh.
The fools perform devotional worship by showing off;

nic nic tpih bhuqu duKu pwvih ] (159-1)
nach nach tapeh bahut dukh paavahi.
they dance and dance and jump all around, but they only suffer in terrible pain.

nicAY tipAY Bgiq n hoie ] (159-2)
nachi-ai tapi-ai bhagat na ho-ay.
By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed.

sbid mrY Bgiq pwey jnu soie ]3] (159-2)
sabad marai bhagat paa-ay jan so-ay. ||3||
But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3||

Bgiq vClu Bgiq krwey soie ] (159-2)
bhagat vachhal bhagat karaa-ay so-ay.
The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He inspires them to perform devotional worship.

scI Bgiq ivchu Awpu Koie ] (159-3)
sachee bhagat vichahu aap kho-ay.
True devotional worship consists of eliminating selfishness and conceit from within.

myrw pRBu swcw sB ibiD jwxY ] (159-3)
mayraa parabh saachaa sabh biDh jaanai.
My True God knows all ways and means.

nwnk bKsy nwmu pCwxY ]4]4]24] (159-3)
naanak bakhsay naam pachhaanai. ||4||4||24||
O Nanak, He forgives those who recognize the Naam. ||4||4||24||

gauVI guAwryrI mhlw 3 ] (159-4)
ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 3.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:

mnu mwry Dwqu mir jwie ] (159-4)
man maaray Dhaat mar jaa-ay.
When someone kills and subdues his own mind, his wandering nature is also subdued.

ibnu mUey kYsy hir pwie ] (159-4)
bin moo-ay kaisay har paa-ay.
Without such a death, how can one find the Lord?

mnu mrY dwrU jwxY koie ] (159-5)
man marai daaroo jaanai ko-ay.
Only a few know the medicine to kill the mind.

mnu sbid mrY bUJY jnu soie ]1] (159-5)
man sabad marai boojhai jan so-ay. ||1||
One whose mind dies in the Word of the Shabad, understands Him. ||1||

ijs no bKsy dy vifAweI ] (159-5)
jis no bakhsay day vadi-aa-ee.
He grants greatness to those whom He forgives.

gur prswid hir vsY min AweI ]1] rhwau ] (159-6)
gur parsaad har vasai man aa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell within the mind. ||1||Pause||

gurmuiK krxI kwr kmwvY ] (159-6)
gurmukh karnee kaar kamaavai.
The Gurmukh practices doing good deeds;

qw iesu mn kI soJI pwvY ] (159-6)
taa is man kee sojhee paavai.
thus he comes to understand this mind.

mnu mY mqu mYgl imkdwrw ] (159-7)
man mai mat maigal mikdaaraa.
The mind is like an elephant, drunk with wine.

guru AMksu mwir jIvwlxhwrw ]2] (159-7)
gur ankas maar jeevaalanhaaraa. ||2||
The Guru is the rod which controls it, and shows it the way. ||2||

mnu AswDu swDY jnu koie ] (159-7)
man asaaDh saaDhai jan ko-ay.
The mind is uncontrollable; how rare are those who subdue it.

Acru crY qw inrmlu hoie ] (159-8)
achar charai taa nirmal ho-ay.
Those who move the immovable become pure.

gurmuiK iehu mnu lieAw svwir ] (159-8)
gurmukh ih man la-i-aa savaar.
The Gurmukhs embellish and beautify this mind.

haumY ivchu qjy ivkwr ]3] (159-8)
ha-umai vichahu tajay vikaar. ||3||
They eradicate egotism and corruption from within. ||3||

jo Duir rwiKAnu myil imlwie ] (159-9)
jo Dhur raakhi-an mayl milaa-ay.
Those who, by pre-ordained destiny, are united in the Lord's Union,

kdy n ivCuVih sbid smwie ] (159-9)
kaday na vichhurheh sabad samaa-ay.
are never separated from Him again; they are absorbed in the Shabad.

aapnee kalaa aapay hee jaanai.
He Himself knows His Own Almighty Power.

nwnk gurmuiK nwmu pCwxY ]4]5]25] (159-10)
naanak gurmukh naam pachhaanai. ||4||5||25||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||5||25||

Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:

haumY ivic sBu jgu baurwnw ] (159-10)
ha-umai vich sabh jag ba-uraanaa.
The entire world has gone insane in egotism.

dUjY Bwie Brim Bulwnw ] (159-11)
doojai bhaa-ay bharam bhulaanaa.
In the love of duality, it wanders deluded by doubt.

bhu icMqw icqvY Awpu n pCwnw ] (159-11)
baho chintaa chitvai aap na pachhaanaa.
The mind is distracted by great anxiety; no one recognizes one's own self.

DMDw kriqAw Anidnu ivhwnw ]1] (159-11)
DhanDhaa karti-aa an-din vihaanaa. ||1||
Occupied with their own affairs, their nights and days are passing away. ||1||

ihrdY rwmu rmhu myry BweI ] (159-12)
hirdai raam ramhu mayray bhaa-ee.
Meditate on the Lord in your hearts, O my Siblings of Destiny.

gurmuiK rsnw hir rsn rsweI ]1] rhwau ] (159-12)
gurmukh rasnaa har rasan rasaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Gurmukh's tongue savors the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

gurmuiK ihrdY ijin rwmu pCwqw ] (159-13)
gurmukh hirdai jin raam pachhaataa.
The Gurmukhs recognize the Lord in their own hearts;

jgjIvnu syiv jug cwry jwqw ] (159-13)
jagjeevan sayv jug chaaray jaataa.
they serve the Lord, the Life of the World. They are famous throughout the four ages.

haumY mwir gur sbid pCwqw ] (159-13)
ha-umai maar gur sabad pachhaataa.
They subdue egotism, and realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ik®pw kry pRB krm ibDwqw ]2] (159-14)
kirpaa karay parabh karam biDhaataa. ||2||
God, the Architect of Destiny, showers His Mercy upon them. ||2||

sy jn scy jo gur sbid imlwey ] (159-14)
say jan sachay jo gur sabad milaa-ay.
True are those who merge into the Word of the Guru's Shabad;

Dwvq vrjy Twik rhwey ] (159-14)
Dhaavat varjay thaak rahaa-ay.
they restrain their wandering mind and keep it steady.

nwmu nv iniD gur qy pwey ] (159-15)
naam nav niDh gur tay paa-ay.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the nine treasures. It is obtained from the Guru.

hir ikrpw qy hir vsY min Awey ]3] (159-15)
har kirpaa tay har vasai man aa-ay. ||3||
By the Lord's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||3||

rwm rwm kriqAw suKu sWiq srIr ] (159-15)
raam raam karti-aa sukh saaNt sareer.
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, the body becomes peaceful and tranquil.

AMqir vsY n lwgY jm pIr ] (159-16)
antar vasai na laagai jam peer.
He dwells deep within - the pain of death does not touch Him.

Awpy swihbu Awip vjIr ] (159-16)
aapay saahib aap vajeer.
He Himself is our Lord and Master; He is His Own Advisor.

nwnk syiv sdw hir guxI ghIr ]4]6]26] (159-16)
naanak sayv sadaa har gunee gaheer. ||4||6||26||
O Nanak, serve the Lord forever; He is the treasure of glorious virtue. ||4||6||26||

ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 3.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:

so ikau ivsrY ijs ky jIA prwnw ] (159-17)
so ki-o visrai jis kay jee-a paraanaa.
Why forget Him, unto whom the soul and the breath of life belong?

so ikau ivsrY sB mwih smwnw ] (159-18)
so ki-o visrai sabh maahi samaanaa.
Why forget Him, who is all-pervading?

ijqu syivAY drgh piq prvwnw ]1] (159-18)
jit sayvi-ai dargeh pat parvaanaa. ||1||
Serving Him, one is honored and accepted in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

hir ky nwm ivthu bil jwau ] (159-18)
har kay naam vitahu bal jaa-o.
I am a sacrifice to the Name of the Lord.

qUM ivsrih qid hI mir jwau ]1] rhwau ] (159-19)
tooN visrahi tad hee mar jaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If I were to forget You, at that very instant, I would die. ||1||Pause||

iqn qUM ivsrih ij quDu Awip Bulwey ] (159-19)
tin tooN visrahi je tuDh aap bhulaa-ay.
Those whom You Yourself have led astray, forget You.
