117 ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਾ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ Sabaḋ maræ man maaræ apunaa mukṫee kaa ḋar paavṇi▫aa. ||3|| Those who die in the Shabad and subdue their own minds, obtain the door of liberation. ||3|| ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ Kilvikʰ kaatæ kroḋʰ nivaaré. They erase their sins, and eliminate their anger; ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ Gur kaa sabaḋ rakʰæ ur ḋʰaaré. they keep the Guru’s Shabad clasped tightly to their hearts. ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ Sach raṫé saḋaa bæraagee ha▫umæ maar milaavaṇi▫aa. ||4|| Those who are attuned to Truth, remain balanced and detached forever. Subduing their egotism, they are united with the Lord. ||4|| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥ Anṫar raṫan milæ milaa▫i▫aa. Deep within the nucleus of the self is the jewel; we receive it only if the Lord inspires us to receive it. ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ Ṫaribaḋʰ mansaa ṫaribaḋʰ maa▫i▫aa. The mind is bound by the three dispositions-the three modes of Maya. ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ Paṛ paṛ pandiṫ monee ṫʰaké cha▫uṫʰé paḋ kee saar na paavṇi▫aa. ||5|| Reading and reciting, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the silent sages have grown weary, but they have not found the supreme essence of the fourth state. ||5|| ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥ Aapé rangé rang chaṛaa▫é. The Lord Himself dyes us in the color of His Love. ਸੇ ਜਨ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥ Sé jan raaṫé gur sabaḋ rangaa▫é. Only those who are steeped in the Word of the Guru’s Shabad are so imbued with His Love. ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ Har rang chaṛi▫aa aṫ apaaraa har ras ras guṇ gaavaṇi▫aa. ||6|| Imbued with the most beautiful color of the Lord’s Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, with great pleasure and joy. ||6|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ Gurmukʰ riḋʰ siḋʰ sach sanjam so▫ee. To the Gurmukh, the True Lord is wealth, miraculous spiritual powers and strict self-discipline. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ Gurmukʰ gi▫aan naam mukaṫ ho▫ee. Through the spiritual wisdom of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukh is liberated. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ Gurmukʰ kaar sach kamaavėh saché sach samaavaṇi▫aa. ||7|| The Gurmukh practices Truth, and is absorbed into who is Truest of the True. ||7|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥਾਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥ Gurmukʰ ṫʰaapé ṫʰaap uṫʰaapé. The Gurmukh realizes that the Lord alone creates, and having created, He destroys. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ॥ Gurmukʰ jaaṫ paṫ sabʰ aapé. To the Gurmukh, the Lord Himself is social class, status and all honor. ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੨॥੧੩॥ Naanak gurmukʰ naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é naamé naam samaavaṇi▫aa. ||8||12||13|| O Nanak! The Gurmukhs meditate on the Naam; through the Naam, they merge in the Naam. ||8||12||13|| ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ Maajʰ mėhlaa 3. Maajh, Third Mehl: ਉਤਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਸਬਦੇ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ Uṫpaṫ parla▫o sabḋé hovæ. Creation and destruction happen through the Word of the Shabad. ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ Sabḋé hee fir opaṫ hovæ. Through the Shabad, creation happens again. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ Gurmukʰ varṫæ sabʰ aapé sachaa gurmukʰ upaa▫é samaavaṇi▫aa. ||1|| The Gurmukh knows that the True Lord is all-pervading. The Gurmukh understands creation and merger. ||1|| ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ Ha▫o vaaree jee▫o vaaree gur pooraa man vasaavaṇi▫aa. I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Perfect Guru within their minds. ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Gur ṫé saaṫ bʰagaṫ karé ḋin raaṫee guṇ kahi guṇee samaavaṇi▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o. From the Guru comes peace and tranquility; worship Him with devotion, day and night. Chanting His Glorious Praises, merge into the Glorious Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਣੀ ॥ Gurmukʰ ḋʰarṫee gurmukʰ paaṇee. The Gurmukh sees the Lord on the earth, and the Gurmukh sees Him in the water. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਣੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥ Gurmukʰ pavaṇ bæsanṫar kʰélæ vidaaṇee. The Gurmukh sees Him in wind and fire; such is the wonder of His Play. ਸੋ ਨਿਗੁਰਾ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ So niguraa jo mar mar jammæ niguré aavaṇ jaavaṇi▫aa. ||2|| One who has no Guru, dies over and over again, only to be re-born. One who has no Guru continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||2|| ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ Ṫin karṫæ ik kʰél rachaa▫i▫aa. The One Creator has set this play in motion. ਕਾਇਆ ਸਰੀਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ Kaa▫i▫aa sareeræ vich sabʰ kichʰ paa▫i▫aa. In the frame of the human body, He has placed all things. ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਕੋਈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਹਲੇ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ Sabaḋ bʰéḋ ko▫ee mahal paa▫é mahlé mahal bulaavaṇi▫aa. ||3|| Those few who are pierced through by the Word of the Shabad, obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. He calls them into His Wondrous Palace. ||3|| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥ Sachaa saahu saché vaṇjaaré. True is the Banker, and true are His traders. ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥ Sach vaṇaⁿjahi gur héṫ apaaré. They purchase Truth, with infinite love for the Guru. ਸਚੁ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ Sach vihaajʰėh sach kamaavėh sacho sach kamaavaṇi▫aa. ||4|| They deal in Truth, and they practice Truth. They earn Truth, and only Truth. ||4|| ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੋ ਵਥੁ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ॥ Bin raasee ko vaṫʰ ki▫o paa▫é. Without investment capital, how can anyone acquire merchandise? ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ Manmukʰ bʰoolé lok sabaa▫é. The self-willed Manmukhs have all gone astray. ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਸਭ ਖਾਲੀ ਚਲੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ Bin raasee sabʰ kʰaalee chalé kʰaalee jaa▫é ḋukʰ paavṇi▫aa. ||5|| Without true wealth, everyone goes empty-handed; going empty-handed, they suffer with pain. ||5|| ਇਕਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ Ik sach vaṇaⁿjahi gur sabaḋ pi▫aaré. Some deal in Truth, through love of the Guru’s Shabad. ਆਪਿ ਤਰਹਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ॥ Aap ṫarėh saglé kul ṫaaré. They save themselves, and save all their ancestors as well. ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੋਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ Aa▫é sé parvaaṇ ho▫é mil pareeṫam sukʰ paavṇi▫aa. ||6|| Very auspicious is the coming of those who meet their Beloved and find peace. ||6|| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਮੂੜਾ ਬਾਹਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ॥ Anṫar vasaṫ mooṛaa baahar bʰaalé. Deep within the self is the secret, but the fool looks for it outside. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬੇਤਾਲੇ ॥ Manmukʰ anḋʰé firėh béṫaalé. The blind self-willed Manmukhs wander around like demons; ਜਿਥੈ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਥਹੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ Jiṫʰæ vaṫʰ hovæ ṫiṫʰhu ko▫é na paavæ manmukʰ bʰaram bʰulaavaṇi▫aa. ||7|| but where the secret is, there, they do not find it. The Manmukhs are deluded by doubt. ||7|| ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥ Aapé ḋévæ sabaḋ bulaa▫é. He Himself calls us, and bestows the Word of the Shabad. ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ Mahlee mahal sahj sukʰ paa▫é. The soul-bride finds intuitive peace and poise in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੩॥੧੪॥ Naanak naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee aapé suṇ suṇ ḋʰi▫aavaṇi▫aa. ||8||13||14|| O Nanak! She obtains the glorious greatness of the Naam; she hears it again and again, and she meditates on it. ||8||13||14|| ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ Maajʰ mėhlaa 3. Maajh, Third Mehl: ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਾਈ ॥ Saṫgur saachee sikʰ suṇaa▫ee. The True Guru has imparted the True Teachings. |
