1359 ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੰ ਨਹ ਛੇਦੰਤ ਜਠਰ ਰੋਗਣਹ ॥ Jén kalaa maaṫ garabʰ pariṫpaalaⁿ nah chʰéḋanṫ jatʰar rogṇah. His Power provides nourishment in the womb of the mother, and does not let disease strike. ਤੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਅਸਥੰਭੰ ਸਰੋਵਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਿਜੰਤਿ ਤਰੰਗ ਤੋਯਣਹ ॥੫੩॥ Ṫén kalaa asṫʰambʰaⁿ sarovaraⁿ Naanak nah chʰijanṫ ṫarang ṫoyṇėh. ||53|| His Power holds back the ocean, O Nanak! And does not allow the waves of water to destroy the land. ||53|| ਗੁਸਾਂਈ ਗਰਿਸ੍ਟ ਰੂਪੇਣ ਸਿਮਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਣਹ ॥ Gusaaⁿ▫ee garist roopéṇ simarṇaⁿ sarbaṫar jeevṇah. The Lord of the World is Supremely Beautiful; His Meditation is the Life of all. ਲਬਧੵੰ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸ੍ਵਛ ਮਾਰਗ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਣਹ ॥੫੪॥ Labḋʰa▫yaⁿ sanṫ sangéṇ Naanak savachʰ maarag har bʰagaṫ▫ṇėh. ||54|| In the Society of the Saints, O Nanak! He is found on the path of devotional worship of the Lord. ||54|| ਮਸਕੰ ਭਗਨੰਤ ਸੈਲੰ ਕਰਦਮੰ ਤਰੰਤ ਪਪੀਲਕਹ ॥ Maskaⁿ bʰagnanṫ sælaⁿ karḋamaⁿ ṫaranṫ papeelkėh. The mosquito pierces the stone, the ant crosses the swamp, ਸਾਗਰੰ ਲੰਘੰਤਿ ਪਿੰਗੰ ਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਅੰਧਕਹ ॥ Saagraⁿ laⁿgʰanṫ pi▫angaⁿ ṫam pargaas anḋʰkah. the cripple crosses the ocean, and the blind sees in the darkness, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੫੫॥ Saaḋʰ sangéṇ simranṫ gobinḋ saraṇ Naanak har har haré. ||55|| meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, Har, Har, Haray. ||55|| ਤਿਲਕ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਾ ਅਮਰ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਰਾਜਨਹ ॥ Ṫilak heeṇaⁿ jaṫʰaa bipraa amar heeṇaⁿ jaṫʰaa raajnah. Like a Brahmin without a sacred mark on his forehead, or a king without the power of command, ਆਵਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਸੂਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਰਮ ਹੀਣੰ ਤਥਾ ਬੈਸ੍ਨਵਹ ॥੫੬॥ Aavaḋʰ heeṇaⁿ jaṫʰaa soorar Naanak ḋʰaram heeṇaⁿ ṫaṫʰaa bæsnvėh. ||56|| or a warrior without weapons, so is the devotee of God without Dharmic Faith. ||56|| ਨ ਸੰਖੰ ਨ ਚਕ੍ਰੰ ਨ ਗਦਾ ਨ ਸਿਆਮੰ ॥ Na saⁿkʰaⁿ na chakaraⁿ na gaḋaa na si▫aamaⁿ. God has no conch-shell, no religious mark, no paraphernalia; he does not have blue skin. ਅਸ੍ਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੰ ਰਹੰਤ ਜਨਮੰ ॥ Ascharaj roopaⁿ rahanṫ janmaⁿ. His Form is Wondrous and Amazing. He is beyond incarnation. ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਥੰਤਿ ਬੇਦਾ ॥ Néṫ néṫ kaṫʰanṫ béḋaa. The Vedas say that He is not this, and not that. ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ॥ Ooch mooch apaar gobinḋah. The Lord of the Universe is Lofty and High, Great and Infinite. ਬਸੰਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਅਚੁਤ ਬੁਝੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਡਭਾਗੀਅਹ ॥੫੭॥ Basanṫ saaḋʰ riḋ▫yaⁿ achuṫ bujʰanṫ Naanak badbʰaagee▫ah. ||57|| The Imperishable Lord abides in the hearts of the Holy. O Nanak! He is understood by those who are very fortunate. ||57|| ਉਦਿਆਨ ਬਸਨੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੰ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਖਰਹ ॥ Uḋi▫aan basanaⁿ saⁿsaaraⁿ sanbanḋʰee savaan si▫aal kʰarah. Living in the world, it is like a wild jungle. One’s relatives are like dogs, jackals and donkeys. ਬਿਖਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਦਿਰੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਅਸਾਧ ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰਹ ॥ Bikʰam saṫʰaan man moh maḋiraⁿ mahaaⁿ asaaḋʰ panch ṫaskarahi. In this difficult place, the mind is intoxicated with the wine of emotional attachment; the five unconquered thieves lurk there. ਹੀਤ ਮੋਹ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਣੰ ਅਹੰ ਫਾਂਸ ਤੀਖੵਣ ਕਠਿਨਹ ॥ Heeṫ moh bʰæ bʰaram bʰarmaṇaⁿ ahaⁿ faaⁿs ṫeekʰ▫yaṇ katʰinėh. The mortals wander lost in love and emotional attachment, fear and doubt; they are caught in the sharp, strong noose of egotism. ਪਾਵਕ ਤੋਅ ਅਸਾਧ ਘੋਰੰ ਅਗਮ ਤੀਰ ਨਹ ਲੰਘਨਹ ॥ Paavak ṫo▫a asaaḋʰ gʰoraⁿ agam ṫeer nah langʰnah. The ocean of fire is terrifying and impassable. The distant shore is so far away; it cannot be reached. ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਉਧਰਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ॥੫੮॥ Bʰaj saaḋʰsang gopaal Naanak har charaṇ saraṇ uḋʰraṇ kirpaa. ||58|| Vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the World, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; O Nanak! By His Grace, we are saved at the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||58|| ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੰਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲਹ ਸਗਲੵੰ ਰੋਗ ਖੰਡਣਹ ॥ Kirpaa karanṫ gobinḋ gopaalah sagal▫yaⁿ rog kʰandṇah. When the Lord of the Universe grants His Grace, all illnesses are cured. ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥੫੯॥ Saaḋʰ sangéṇ guṇ ramaṫ Naanak saraṇ pooran parmésurėh. ||59|| Nanak chants His Glorious Praises in the Saadh Sangat, in the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord God. ||59|| ਸਿਆਮਲੰ ਮਧੁਰ ਮਾਨੁਖੵੰ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਭੂਮਿ ਵੈਰਣਹ ॥ Si▫aamalaⁿ maḋʰur maanukʰ▫yaⁿ riḋ▫yaⁿ bʰoom værṇah. The mortal is beautiful and speaks sweet words, but in the farm of his heart, he harbors cruel vengeance. ਨਿਵੰਤਿ ਹੋਵੰਤਿ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਚੇਤਨੰ ਸੰਤ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੬੦॥ Nivanṫ hovanṫ miṫʰi▫aa chéṫnaⁿ sanṫ savajniĥ. ||60|| He pretends to bow in worship, but he is false. Beware of him, O friendly Saints. ||60|| ਅਚੇਤ ਮੂੜਾ ਨ ਜਾਣੰਤ ਘਟੰਤ ਸਾਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤੇ ॥ Achéṫ mooṛaa na jaaṇanṫ gʰatanṫ saasaa niṫ parṫé. The thoughtless fool does not know that each day, his breaths are being used up. ਛਿਜੰਤ ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕਾਲ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਤੇ ॥ Chʰijanṫ mahaa sunḋree kaaⁿ▫i▫aa kaal kanniaa garaasṫé. His most beautiful body is wearing away; old age, the daughter of death, has seized it. ਰਚੰਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਲੀਲਾ ਅਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਨੋਦ ॥ Rachanṫ pukʰah kutamb leelaa aniṫ aasaa bikʰi▫aa binoḋ. He is engrossed in family play; placing his hopes in transitory things, he indulges in corrupt pleasures. ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਯਹ ॥੬੧॥ Bʰarmanṫ bʰarmanṫ baho janam haari▫o saraṇ Naanak karuṇaa ma▫yėh. ||61|| Wandering lost in countless incarnations, he is exhausted. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Embodiment of Mercy. ||61|| ਹੇ ਜਿਹਬੇ ਹੇ ਰਸਗੇ ਮਧੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਤੁਯੰ ॥ Hé jihbé hé rasgé maḋʰur pari▫a ṫu▫yaⁿ. O tongue, you love to enjoy the sweet delicacies. ਸਤ ਹਤੰ ਪਰਮ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਵਰਤ ਏਥਹ ਸੁਧ ਅਛਰਣਹ ॥ Saṫ haṫaⁿ param baaḋaⁿ avraṫ éṫʰah suḋʰ achʰarṇėh. You are dead to the Truth, and involved in great disputes. Instead, repeat the holy words: ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧਵੇ ॥੬੨॥ Gobinḋ ḋaamoḋar maaḋʰvé. ||62|| Gobind, Daamodar, Maadhav. ||62|| ਗਰਬੰਤਿ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਦੋਨ ਮਤੰ ॥ Garbanṫ naaree maḋon maṫaⁿ. Those who are proud, and intoxicated with the pleasures of sex, ਬਲਵੰਤ ਬਲਾਤ ਕਾਰਣਹ ॥ Balvanṫ balaaṫ kaarṇah. and asserting their power over others, ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਹ ਭਜੰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜਨਮਨਹ ॥ Charan kamal nah bʰajanṫ ṫariṇ samaan ḋʰarig janamnėh. never contemplate the Lord’s Lotus Feet. Their lives are cursed, and as worthless as straw. ਹੇ ਪਪੀਲਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਟੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਯੰ ਧਨੇ ॥ Hé papeelkaa garasté gobinḋ simraṇ ṫu▫yaⁿ ḋʰané. You are as tiny and insignificant as an ant, but you shall become great, by the Wealth of the Lord’s Meditation. ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਮੋ ਨਮਹ ॥੬੩॥ Naanak anik baar namo namah. ||63|| Nanak bows in humble worship, countless times, over and over again. ||63|| ਤ੍ਰਿਣੰ ਤ ਮੇਰੰ ਸਹਕੰ ਤ ਹਰੀਅੰ ॥ Ṫariṇ ṫa méraⁿ sėhkaⁿ ṫa haree▫aⁿ. The blade of grass becomes a mountain, and the barren land becomes green. ਬੂਡੰ ਤ ਤਰੀਅੰ ਊਣੰ ਤ ਭਰੀਅੰ ॥ Boodaⁿ ṫa ṫaree▫aⁿ ooṇaⁿ ṫa bʰaree▫aⁿ. The drowning one swims across, and the empty is filled to overflowing. ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਉਜਾਰੰ ॥ Anḋʰkaar kot soor ujaaraⁿ. Millions of suns illuminate the darkness, ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਰੰ ॥੬੪॥ Binvanṫ Naanak har gur ḋéaaraⁿ. ||64|| prays Nanak, when the Guru, the Lord, becomes Merciful. ||64|| |
