1357 ਕੀਰਤਨੰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰਤਿ ਜਮਦੂਤਨਹ ॥੩੪॥ Keeraṫanaⁿ saaḋʰsangéṇ Naanak nah ḋarisat▫aⁿṫ jamḋooṫnėh. ||34|| and sings the Kirtan of His Praises in the Saadh Sangat, O Nanak! Shall never see the Messenger of Death. ||34|| ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਧਨੰ ਰੂਪੰ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਰਾਜਨਹ ॥ Nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ ḋanaⁿ roopaⁿ nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ savarag raajnah. Wealth and beauty are not so difficult to obtain. Paradise and royal power are not so difficult to obtain. ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਭੋਜਨੰ ਬਿੰਜਨੰ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਸ੍ਵਛ ਅੰਬਰਹ ॥ Nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ bʰojanaⁿ biⁿjanaⁿ nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ savachʰ ambrėh. Foods and delicacies are not so difficult to obtain. Elegant clothes are not so difficult to obtain. ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਸੁਤ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਬਾਂਧਵ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਬਿਲਾਸਹ ॥ Nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ suṫ miṫar bʰaraaṫ baaⁿḋʰav nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ baniṫaa bilaasėh. Children, friends, siblings and relatives are not so difficult to obtain. The pleasures of woman are not so difficult to obtain. ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਣੰ ਨਚ ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਚਤੁਰ ਚੰਚਲਹ ॥ Nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ biḋi▫aa parbeeṇaⁿ nach ḋurlabʰaⁿ chaṫur chanchlėh. Knowledge and wisdom are not so difficult to obtain. Cleverness and trickery are not so difficult to obtain. ਦੁਰਲਭੰ ਏਕ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨਾਮਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਬਧੵਿੰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੰ ॥੩੫॥ Ḋurlabʰaⁿ ék bʰagvaan naamah Naanak labḋʰi▫yaⁿ saaḋʰsang kirpaa parabʰaⁿ. ||35|| Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is difficult to obtain. O Nanak! It is only obtained by God’s Grace, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||35|| ਜਤ ਕਤਹ ਤਤਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੰ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਮਰਤ ਪਯਾਲ ਲੋਕਹ ॥ Jaṫ kaṫah ṫaṫah ḋaristaⁿ savarag maraṫ pa▫yaal lokah. Wherever I look, I see the Lord, whether in this world, in paradise, or the nether regions of the underworld. ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਰਮਣੰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਪ ਛੇਪ ਨ ਲਿਪੵਤੇ ॥੩੬॥ Sarbaṫar ramṇaⁿ gobinḋah Naanak lép chʰép na lip▫yaṫæ. ||36|| The Lord of the Universe is All-pervading everywhere. O Nanak! No blame or stain sticks to Him. ||36|| ਬਿਖਯਾ ਭਯੰਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੰ ਦ੍ਰੁਸਟਾਂ ਸਖਾ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥ Bikʰyaa bʰa▫yanṫ amriṫaⁿ ḋarustaaⁿ sakʰaa savajniĥ. Poison is transformed into nectar, and enemies into friends and companions. ਦੁਖੰ ਭਯੰਤਿ ਸੁਖੵੰ ਭੈ ਭੀਤੰ ਤ ਨਿਰਭਯਹ ॥ Ḋukʰaⁿ bʰa▫yanṫ sukʰ▫yaⁿ bʰæ bʰeeṫaⁿ ṫa nirabʰyėh. Pain is changed into pleasure, and the fearful become fearless. ਥਾਨ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਹ ॥੩੭॥ Ṫʰaan bihoon bisraam naamaⁿ Naanak kirpaal har har gurah. ||37|| Those who have no home or place find their place of rest in the Naam, O Nanak! When the Guru, the Lord, becomes Merciful. ||37|| ਸਰਬ ਸੀਲ ਮਮੰ ਸੀਲੰ ਸਰਬ ਪਾਵਨ ਮਮ ਪਾਵਨਹ ॥ Sarab seel mamaⁿ seelaⁿ sarab paavan mam paavnah. He blesses all with humility; He has blessed me with humility as well. He purifies all, and He has purified me as well. ਸਰਬ ਕਰਤਬ ਮਮੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਪ ਛੇਪ ਨ ਲਿਪੵਤੇ ॥੩੮॥ Sarab karṫab mamaⁿ karṫaa Naanak lép chʰép na lip▫yaṫæ. ||38|| The Creator of all is the Creator of me as well. O Nanak! No blame or stain sticks to Him. ||38|| ਨਹ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਵਹ ਨਹ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਬਾਵਨ ਚੰਦਨਹ ॥ Nah seeṫlaⁿ chanḋar ḋévah nah seeṫlaⁿ baavan chandnah. The moon-god is not cool and calm, nor is the white sandalwood tree. ਨਹ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਸੀਤ ਰੁਤੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੀਤਲੰ ਸਾਧ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੩੯॥ Nah seeṫlaⁿ seeṫ ruṫéṇ Naanak seeṫlaⁿ saaḋʰ savajniĥ. ||39|| The winter season is not cool; O Nanak! Only the Holy friends, the Saints, are cool and calm. ||39|| ਮੰਤ੍ਰੰ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੰ ਧੵਾਨੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਪੂਰਨਹ ॥ Manṫraⁿ raam raam naamaⁿ ḋʰa▫yaana sarbaṫar poornah. Through the Mantra of the Name of the Lord, Ram, Ram, one meditates on the All-pervading Lord. ਗੵਾਨੰ ਸਮ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖੰ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਵੈਰਣਹ ॥ Ga▫yaana sam ḋukʰ sukʰaⁿ jugaṫ nirmal nirværṇėh. Those who have the wisdom to look alike upon pleasure and pain, live the immaculate lifestyle, free of vengeance. ਦਯਾਲੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਆ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਵਰਜਿਤਹ ॥ Ḋa▫yaalaⁿ sarbaṫar jee▫aa panch ḋokʰ bivarjiṫėh. They are kind to all beings; they have overpowered the five thieves. ਭੋਜਨੰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨੰ ਅਲਪ ਮਾਯਾ ਜਲ ਕਮਲ ਰਹਤਹ ॥ Bʰojanaⁿ gopaal keeraṫanaⁿ alap maa▫yaa jal kamal rahṫah. They take the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praise as their food; they remain untouched by Maya, like the lotus in the water. ਉਪਦੇਸੰ ਸਮ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ ॥ Upḋésaⁿ sam miṫar saṫrėh bʰagvanṫ bʰagaṫ bʰaavnee. They share the Teachings with friend and enemy alike; they love the devotional worship of God. ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਹ ਸ੍ਰੋਤਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੰ ਆਪੁ ਤੵਿਾਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਰੇਣੁਕਹ ॥ Par ninḋaa nah saroṫ sarvaṇaⁿ aap ṫi▫yaag sagal réṇukėh. They do not listen to slander; renouncing self-conceit, they become the dust of all. ਖਟ ਲਖੵਣ ਪੂਰਨੰ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਧ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੪੦॥ Kʰat lakʰ▫yaṇ pooranaⁿ purkʰah Naanak naam saaḋʰ savajnéh. ||40|| Whoever has these six qualities, O Nanak! Is called a Holy friend. ||40|| ਅਜਾ ਭੋਗੰਤ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲੰ ਬਸੰਤੇ ਸਮੀਪਿ ਕੇਹਰਹ ॥ Ajaa bʰoganṫ kanḋ moolaⁿ basanṫé sameep kéhrah. The goat enjoys eating fruits and roots, but if it lives near a tiger, it is always anxious. ਤਤ੍ਰ ਗਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖੰ ਬਿਆਪਤੇ ॥੪੧॥ Ṫaṫar gaṫé sansaarah Naanak sog harkʰaⁿ bi▫aapaṫé. ||41|| This is the condition of the world, O Nanak; it is afflicted by pleasure and pain. ||41|| ਛਲੰ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੰ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨੰ ਅਪਰਾਧੰ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਮਲੰ ॥ Chʰalaⁿ chʰiḋaraⁿ kot bigʰanaⁿ apraaḋʰaⁿ kilbikʰ malaⁿ. Fraud, false accusations, millions of diseases, sins and the filthy residues of evil mistakes; ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹੰ ਮਾਨ ਅਪਮਾਨੰ ਮਦੰ ਮਾਯਾ ਬਿਆਪਿਤੰ ॥ Bʰaram mohaⁿ maan apmaanaⁿ maḋaⁿ maa▫yaa bi▫aapiṫaⁿ. doubt, emotional attachment, pride, dishonor and intoxication with Maya - ਮ੍ਰਿਤੵੁ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਨਰਕਹ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਵੰ ਨ ਸਿਧੵਤੇ ॥ Miṫar▫yo janam bʰarmanṫ narkah anik upaavaⁿ na siḋʰ▫yaṫæ. these lead mortals to death and rebirth, wandering lost in hell. In spite of all sorts of efforts, salvation is not found. ਨਿਰਮਲੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਹ ਜਪੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਨਾਮੰ ॥ Nirmalaⁿ saaḋʰ sangah japanṫ Naanak gopaal naamaⁿ. Chanting and meditating on the Name of the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak! Mortals become immaculate and pure. ਰਮੰਤਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਹ ॥੪੨॥ Ramanṫ guṇ gobinḋ niṫ parṫėh. ||42|| They continually dwell upon the Glorious Praises of God. ||42|| ਤਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਮਣ ਸੀਲ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥ Ṫaraṇ saraṇ su▫aamee ramaṇ seel parmésurėh. In the Sanctuary of the Kind-hearted Lord, our Transcendent Lord and Master, we are carried across. ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥਹ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਨਹ ॥ Karaṇ kaaraṇ samarṫʰėh ḋaan ḋéṫ parabʰ poornah. God is the Perfect, All-powerful Cause of all causes; He is the Giver of gifts. ਨਿਰਾਸ ਆਸ ਕਰਣੰ ਸਗਲ ਅਰਥ ਆਲਯਹ ॥ Niraas aas karṇaⁿ sagal araṫʰ aalyėh. He gives hope to the hopeless. He is the Source of all riches. ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲ ਜਾਚੰਤ ਜਾਚਿਕਹ ॥੪੩॥ Guṇ niḋʰaan simranṫ Naanak sagal jaachanṫ jaachikėh. ||43|| Nanak meditates in remembrance of the Treasure of Virtue; we are all beggars, begging at His Door. ||43|| ਦੁਰਗਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਸੁਗਮੰ ਮਹਾ ਦੂਖ ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖਣਹ ॥ Ḋurgam saṫʰaan sugamaⁿ mahaa ḋookʰ sarab sookʰ▫ṇah. The most difficult place becomes easy, and the worst pain turns into pleasure. ਦੁਰਬਚਨ ਭੇਦ ਭਰਮੰ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਿਸਨੰ ਤ ਸੁਰਜਨਹ ॥ Ḋurbachan bʰéḋ bʰaramaⁿ saakaṫ pisanaⁿ ṫa surajnėh. Evil words, differences and doubts are obliterated, and even faithless cynics and malicious gossips become good people. ਅਸਥਿਤੰ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖੰ ਭੈ ਖੀਣੰ ਤ ਨਿਰਭਵਹ ॥ Asṫʰiṫaⁿ sog harkʰaⁿ bʰæ kʰeeṇaⁿ ṫa nirabʰvėh. They become steady and stable, whether happy or sad; their fears are taken away, and they are fearless. |
