1355 ਰਾਜੰ ਤ ਮਾਨੰ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੰ ਤ ਹੀਨੰ ॥ Raajaⁿ ṫa maanaⁿ abʰimaanaⁿ ṫa heenaⁿ. If there is power, then there is pride. If there is egotistical pride, then there will be a fall. ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਮਾਰਗੰ ਵਰਤੰਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੰ ॥ Parviraṫ maargaⁿ varṫanṫ binaasanaⁿ. Engrossed in worldly ways, one is ruined. ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਅਸਥਿਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਜਨਾਸਨੰ ॥੧੨॥ Gobinḋ bʰajan saaḋʰ sangéṇ asṫʰiraⁿ Naanak bʰagvanṫ bʰajnaasnaⁿ. ||12|| Meditating and vibrating on the Lord of the Universe in the Company of the Holy, you shall become steady and stable. Nanak vibrates and meditates on the Lord God. ||12|| ਕਿਰਪੰਤ ਹਰੀਅੰ ਮਤਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੰ ॥ Kirpanṫ haree▫aⁿ maṫ ṫaṫ gi▫aanaⁿ. By the Grace of God, genuine understanding comes to the mind. ਬਿਗਸੀਧੵਿ ਬੁਧਾ ਕੁਸਲ ਥਾਨੰ ॥ Bigseeḋʰiy buḋʰaa kusal ṫʰaanaⁿ. The intellect blossoms forth, and one finds a place in the realm of celestial bliss. ਬਸੵਿੰਤ ਰਿਖਿਅੰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਾਨੰ ॥ Bas▫yant rikʰi▫aⁿ ṫi▫aag maanaⁿ. The senses are brought under control, and pride is abandoned. ਸੀਤਲੰਤ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਸੰਤ ਗਿਆਨੰ ॥ Seeṫlanṫ riḋ▫yaⁿ ḋariṛ sanṫ gi▫aanaⁿ. The heart is cooled and soothed, and the wisdom of the Saints is implanted within. ਰਹੰਤ ਜਨਮੰ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸ ਲੀਣਾ ॥ Rahanṫ janmaⁿ har ḋaras leeṇaa. Reincarnation is ended, and the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan is obtained. ਬਾਜੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਣਾਂ ॥੧੩॥ Baajanṫ Naanak sabaḋ beeṇaaⁿ. ||13|| O Nanak! The musical instrument of the Word of the Shabad vibrates and resounds within. ||13|| ਕਹੰਤ ਬੇਦਾ ਗੁਣੰਤ ਗੁਨੀਆ ਸੁਣੰਤ ਬਾਲਾ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰਾ ॥ Kahanṫ béḋaa guṇanṫ gunee▫aa suṇanṫ baalaa baho biḋʰ parkaaraa. The Vedas preach and recount God’s Glories; people hear them by various ways and means. ਦ੍ਰਿੜੰਤ ਸੁਬਿਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ॥ Ḋariṛ▫aaⁿṫ subiḋi▫aa har har kirpaalaa. The Merciful Lord, Har, Har, implants spiritual wisdom within. ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਜਾਚੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੈਨਹਾਰ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥੧੪॥ Naam ḋaan jaachanṫ Naanak ḋænhaar gur gopaalaa. ||14|| Nanak begs for the Gift of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. The Guru is the Great Giver, the Lord of the World. ||14|| ਨਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਹ ਨਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਛੁ ਲੋਕ ਕਹ ॥ Nah chinṫaa maaṫ piṫ bʰaraaṫah nah chinṫaa kachʰ lok kah. Do not worry so much about your mother, father and siblings. Do not worry so much about other people. ਨਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤਹ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਨਬੰਧਨਹ ॥ Nah chinṫaa baniṫaa suṫ meeṫah parviraṫ maa▫i▫aa sanbʰanḋʰnah. Do not worry about your spouse, children and friends. You are obsessed with your involvements in Maya. ਦਇਆਲ ਏਕ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕਹ ॥੧੫॥ Ḋa▫i▫aal ék bʰagvaan pukʰah Naanak sarab jee▫a parṫipaalkėh. ||15|| The One Lord God is Kind and Compassionate, O Nanak. He is the Cherisher and Nurturer of all living beings. ||15|| ਅਨਿਤੵ ਵਿਤੰ ਅਨਿਤੵ ਚਿਤੰ ਅਨਿਤੵ ਆਸਾ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੰ ॥ Aniṫ▫y viṫaⁿ aniṫ▫y chiṫaⁿ aniṫ▫y aasaa baho biḋʰ parkaaraⁿ. Wealth is temporary; conscious existence is temporary; hopes of all sorts are temporary. ਅਨਿਤੵ ਹੇਤੰ ਅਹੰ ਬੰਧੰ ਭਰਮ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਲਨੰ ਬਿਕਾਰੰ ॥ Aniṫ▫y héṫaⁿ ahaⁿ banḋʰaⁿ bʰaram maa▫i▫aa malanaⁿ bikaaraⁿ. The bonds of love, attachment, egotism, doubt, Maya and the pollution of corruption are temporary. ਫਿਰੰਤ ਜੋਨਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਜਠਰਾਗਨਿ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਮਲੀਣ ਬੁਧੵੰ ॥ Firanṫ jon anék jʰatʰraagan nah simranṫ maleeṇ buḋʰ▫yaⁿ. The mortal passes through the fire of the womb of reincarnation countless times. He does not remember the Lord in meditation; his understanding is polluted. ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕਰਤ ਮਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮਹ ॥੧੬॥ Hé gobinḋ karaṫ ma▫i▫aa Naanak paṫiṫ uḋʰaaraṇ saaḋʰ sangmah. ||16|| O Lord of the Universe, when You grant Your Grace, even sinners are saved. Nanak dwells in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||16|| ਗਿਰੰਤ ਗਿਰਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਤਾਲੰ ਜਲੰਤ ਦੇਦੀਪੵ ਬੈਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਰਹ ॥ Giranṫ gir paṫiṫ paaṫaalaⁿ jalanṫ ḋéḋeep▫y bæsvaaⁿṫarėh. You may drop down from the mountains, and fall into the nether regions of the underworld, or be burnt in the blazing fire, ਬਹੰਤਿ ਅਗਾਹ ਤੋਯੰ ਤਰੰਗੰ ਦੁਖੰਤ ਗ੍ਰਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਨਮੰ ਤ ਮਰਣਹ ॥ Bahanṫ agaah ṫo▫yaⁿ ṫarangaⁿ ḋukʰanṫ garah chinṫaa janmaⁿ ṫa marṇah. or swept away by the unfathomable waves of water; but the worst pain of all is household anxiety, which is the source of the cycle of death and rebirth. ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਧਨੰ ਨ ਸਿਧੵਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਸਥੰਭੰ ਅਸਥੰਭੰ ਅਸਥੰਭੰ ਸਬਦ ਸਾਧ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੧੭॥ Anik saaḋʰanaⁿ na siḋʰ▫yaṫæ Naanak asṫʰambʰaⁿ asṫʰambʰaⁿ asṫʰambʰaⁿ sabaḋ saaḋʰ savajniĥ. ||17|| No matter what you do, you cannot break its bonds, O Nanak. Man’s only Support, Anchor and Mainstay is the Word of the Shabad, and the Holy, Friendly Saints. ||17|| ਘੋਰ ਦੁਖੵੰ ਅਨਿਕ ਹਤੵੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਾਰਿਦ੍ਰੰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੵਾਦੰ ॥ Gʰor ḋukʰ▫yaⁿ anik haṫ▫yaⁿ janam ḋaariḋaraⁿ mahaa bikʰ▫yaaḋⁿ. Excruciating pain, countless killings, reincarnation, poverty and terrible misery ਮਿਟੰਤ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਕ ਕਾਸਟ ਭਸਮੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ॥੧੮॥ Mitanṫ sagal simranṫ har naam Naanak jæsé paavak kaasat bʰasmaⁿ karoṫ. ||18|| are all destroyed by meditating in remembrance of the Lord’s Name, O Nanak! Just as fire reduces piles of wood to ashes. ||18|| ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੰ ਗੁਣ ਰਮੰਤ ਅਘ ਖੰਡਨਹ ॥ Anḋʰkaar simraṫ parkaasaⁿ guṇ ramanṫ agʰ kʰandnah. Meditating in remembrance of the Lord, the darkness is illuminated. Dwelling on His Glorious Praises, the ugly sins are destroyed. ਰਿਦ ਬਸੰਤਿ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਦੂਤਹ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਮਹਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਹ ॥ Riḋ basanṫ bʰæ bʰeeṫ ḋooṫah karam karaṫ mahaa niramlėh. Enshrining the Lord deep within the heart, and with the immaculate karma of doing good deeds, one strikes fear into the demons. ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਰਹੰਤ ਸ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹ ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸਨਹ ॥ Janam maraṇ rahanṫ saroṫaa sukʰ samooh amogʰ ḋarasnėh. The cycle of coming and going in reincarnation is ended, absolute peace is obtained, and the Fruitful Vision of the Lord’s Darshan. ਸਰਣਿ ਜੋਗੰ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਖੇਮੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ॥੧੯॥ Saraṇ jogaⁿ sanṫ pari▫a Naanak so bʰagvaan kʰémaⁿ karoṫ. ||19|| He is Potent to give Protection, He is the Lover of His Saints. O Nanak! The Lord God blesses all with bliss. ||19|| ਪਾਛੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਅਗ੍ਰਣੀਵਹ ਨਿਰਾਸੰ ਆਸ ਪੂਰਨਹ ॥ Paachʰaⁿ karoṫ agarṇeevėh niraasaⁿ aas poornah. Those who were left behind - the Lord brings them to the front. He fulfills the hopes of the hopeless. ਨਿਰਧਨ ਭਯੰ ਧਨਵੰਤਹ ਰੋਗੀਅੰ ਰੋਗ ਖੰਡਨਹ ॥ Nirḋʰan bʰa▫yaⁿ ḋʰanvanṫah rogee▫aⁿ rog kʰandnah. He makes the poor rich, and cures the illnesses of the ill. ਭਗਤੵੰ ਭਗਤਿ ਦਾਨੰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥ Bʰagaṫ▫yaⁿ bʰagaṫ ḋaanaⁿ raam naam guṇ keeraṫnėh. He blesses His devotees with devotion. They sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord’s Name. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾਤਾਰਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਿੰ ਨ ਲਭੵਤੇ ॥੨੦॥ Paarbarahm purakʰ ḋaaṫaarėh Naanak gur sévaa kiⁿ na labʰ▫yaṫæ. ||20|| O Nanak! Those who serve the Guru find the Supreme Lord God, the Great Giver||20|| ਅਧਰੰ ਧਰੰ ਧਾਰਣਹ ਨਿਰਧਨੰ ਧਨ ਨਾਮ ਨਰਹਰਹ ॥ Aḋʰraⁿ ḋʰaraⁿ ḋʰaarṇah nirḋʰanaⁿ ḋʰan naam nar▫harėh. He gives Support to the unsupported. The Name of the Lord is the Wealth of the poor. ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ਬਲਹੀਣ ਬਲ ਕੇਸਵਹ ॥ Anaaṫʰ naaṫʰ gobinḋah balheeṇ bal késvah. The Lord of the Universe is the Master of the masterless; the Beautiful-haired Lord is the Power of the weak. ਸਰਬ ਭੂਤ ਦਯਾਲ ਅਚੁਤ ਦੀਨ ਬਾਂਧਵ ਦਾਮੋਦਰਹ ॥ Sarab bʰooṫ ḋa▫yaal achuṫ ḋeen baaⁿḋʰav ḋaamoḋarėh. The Lord is Merciful to all beings, Eternal and Unchanging, the Family of the meek and humble. ਸਰਬਗੵ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਭਗਵਾਨਹ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਯਹ ॥ Sarabga▫y pooran purakʰ bʰagvaanėh bʰagaṫ vachʰal karuṇaa ma▫yėh. The All-knowing, Perfect, Primal Lord God is the Lover of His devotees, the Embodiment of Mercy. |
