ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥

Naanak ka▫o jug jug har jas ḋeejæ har japee▫æ anṫ na paa▫i▫aa. ||5||

O Lord, please bless Nanak with Your Praise in each and every age; meditating on the Lord, I cannot find His limits.||5||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੀਰਾ ॥

Anṫar naam paraapaṫ heeraa.

With the Naam deep within the nucleus of the self, the jewel is obtained.

ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਧੀਰਾ ॥

Har japṫé man man ṫé ḋʱeeraa.

Meditating on the Lord, the mind is comforted and consoled by the mind itself.

ਦੁਘਟ ਘਟ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੬॥

Ḋugʱat gʱat bʱa▫o bʱanjan paa▫ee▫æ baahuṛ janam na jaa▫i▫aa. ||6||

On that most difficult path, the Destroyer of fear is found, and one does not have to enter the womb of reincarnation again. ||6||

ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥

Bʱagaṫ héṫ gur sabaḋ ṫarangaa.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, inspiration for the loving devotional worship wells up.

ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਗਾ ॥

Har jas naam paḋaaraṫʱ mangaa.

I beg for the treasure of the Naam, and the Lord’s Praise.

ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੭॥

Har bʱaavæ gur mél milaa▫é har ṫaaré jagaṫ sabaa▫i▫aa. ||7||

When it pleases the Lord, He unites me in Union with the Guru; the Lord saves the whole world.||7||

ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਤਿ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥

Jin jap japi▫o saṫgur maṫ vaa ké.

One who chants the Lord’s Chant, attains the Wisdom of the True Guru.

ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥

Jamkankar kaal sévak pag ṫaa ké.

The tyrant, the Messenger of Death, becomes a servant at his feet.

ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਜਗੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥੮॥

Ūṫam sangaṫ gaṫ miṫ ooṫam jag bʱa▫ojal paar ṫaraa▫i▫aa. ||8||

In the noble congregation of the Sangat, one’s state and way of life become noble as well, and one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ||8||

ਇਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਤਰੀਐ ॥

Ih bʱavjal jagaṫ sabaḋ gur ṫaree▫æ.

Through the Shabad, one crosses over this terrifying world-ocean.

ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਰੀਐ ॥

Anṫar kee ḋubiḋʱaa anṫar jaree▫æ.

The duality within is burnt away from within.

ਪੰਚ ਬਾਣ ਲੇ ਜਮ ਕਉ ਮਾਰੈ ਗਗਨੰਤਰਿ ਧਣਖੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥੯॥

Panch baaṇ lé jam ka▫o maaræ gagnanṫar ḋʱaṇakʱ chaṛaa▫i▫aa. ||9||

Taking up the five arrows of virtue, Death is killed, drawing the Bow of the Tenth Gate in the Mind’s Sky. ||9||

ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

Saakaṫ nar sabaḋ suraṫ ki▫o paa▫ee▫æ.

How can the faithless cynics attain enlightened awareness of the Shabad?

ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਈਐ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

Sabaḋ suraṫ bin aa▫ee▫æ jaa▫ee▫æ.

Without awareness of the Shabad, they come and go in reincarnation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥

Naanak gurmukʱ mukaṫ paraa▫iṇ har pooræ bʱaag milaa▫i▫aa. ||10||

O Nanak! The Gurmukh obtains the support of liberation; by perfect destiny, he meets the Lord. ||10||

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥

Nirbʱa▫o saṫgur hæ rakʱvaalaa.

The Fearless True Guru is our Savior and Protector.

ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥

Bʱagaṫ paraapaṫ gur gopaalaa.

Devotional worship is obtained through the Guru, the Lord of the world.

ਧੁਨਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥

Ḋʱun anand anaahaḋ vaajæ gur sabaḋ niranjan paa▫i▫aa. ||11||

The blissful music of the unstruck sound current vibrates and resounds; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the Immaculate Lord is obtained. ||11||

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੇਖਾ ॥

Nirbʱa▫o so sir naahee lékʱaa.

He alone is fearless, who has no destiny written on His head.

ਆਪਿ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਖਾ ॥

Aap alékʱ kuḋraṫ hæ ḋékʱaa.

God Himself is unseen; He reveals Himself through His wondrous creative power.

ਆਪਿ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਸੰਭਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥

Aap aṫeeṫ ajonee sambʱa▫o Naanak gurmaṫ so paa▫i▫aa. ||12||

He Himself is unattached, unborn and self-existent. O Nanak! Through the Guru’s Teachings, He is found. ||12||

ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Anṫar kee gaṫ saṫgur jaaṇæ.

The True Guru knows the state of one’s inner being.

ਸੋ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

So nirbʱa▫o gur sabaḋ pachʱaaṇæ.

He alone is fearless, who realizes the Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

ਅੰਤਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥

Anṫar ḋékʱ niranṫar boojʱæ anaṫ na man dolaa▫i▫aa. ||13||

He looks within his own inner being, and realizes the Lord within us all; his mind does not waver at all. ||13||

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੋ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ॥

Nirbʱa▫o so abʱ anṫar vasi▫aa.

He alone is fearless, within whose being the Lord abides.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਰਸਿਆ ॥

Ahinis naam niranjan rasi▫aa.

Day and night, he is delighted with the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥

Naanak har jas sangaṫ paa▫ee▫æ har sėhjé sahj milaa▫i▫aa. ||14||

O Nanak! In the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the Lord’s Praise is obtained, and one easily, intuitively meets the Lord. ||14||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Anṫar baahar so parabʱ jaaṇæ.

One who knows God, within the self and beyond,

ਰਹੈ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਚਲਤੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥

Rahæ alipaṫ chalṫé gʱar aaṇæ.

remains detached, and brings his wandering mind back to its home.

ਊਪਰਿ ਆਦਿ ਸਰਬ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥੪॥੨੧॥

Ūpar aaḋ sarab ṫihu lo▫ee sach Naanak amriṫ ras paa▫i▫aa. ||15||4||21||

The True Primal Lord is over all the three worlds; O Nanak! His Ambrosial Nectar is obtained. ||15||4||21||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 1.

Maaroo, First Mehl:

ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Kuḋraṫ karnæhaar apaaraa.

The Creator Lord is infinite; His creative power is wondrous.

ਕੀਤੇ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਾਰਾ ॥

Keeṫé kaa naahee kihu chaaraa.

Created beings have no power over Him.

ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦੇ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

Jee▫a upaa▫é rijak ḋé aapé sir sir hukam chalaa▫i▫aa. ||1||

He formed the living beings, and He Himself sustains them; the Hukam of His Command controls each and every one. ||1||

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥

Hukam chalaa▫é rahi▫aa bʱarpooré.

The all-pervading Lord orchestrates all through His Hukam.

ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾਂ ਦੂਰੇ ॥

Kis néṛæ kis aakʱaaᴺ ḋooré.

Who is near, and who is far away?

ਗੁਪਤ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹਰਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਤਾਕੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

Gupaṫ pargat har gʱat gʱat ḋékʱhu varṫæ ṫaak sabaa▫i▫aa. ||2||

Behold the Lord, both hidden and manifest, in each and every heart; the unique Lord is permeating all. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

Jis ka▫o mélé suraṫ samaa▫é.

One whom the Lord unites with Himself, merges in conscious awareness.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

Gur sabḋee har naam ḋʱi▫aa▫é.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, meditate on the Lord’s Name.

ਆਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਭਰਮੁ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

Aanaḋ roop anoop agochar gur mili▫æ bʱaram jaa▫i▫aa. ||3||

God is the embodiment of bliss, incomparably beautiful and unfathomable; meeting with the Guru, doubt is dispelled. ||3||

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

Man ṫan ḋʱan ṫé naam pi▫aaraa.

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is more dear to me than my mind, body and wealth.

ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਚਲਣਵਾਰਾ ॥

Anṫ sakʱaa▫ee chalaṇvaaraa.

In the end, when I must depart, it shall be my only help and support.

ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੇਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

Moh pasaar nahee sang bélee bin har gur kin sukʱ paa▫i▫aa. ||4||

In this world of love and attachment, no one is anyone else’s friend or companion; without the Lord, without the Guru, who has ever found peace? ||4||
