ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਾਚ ਭਲੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

Saaḋʱik saach bʱalé veechaaré.

The seekers of Truth and goodness contemplate You.

ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਉ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਣਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥

Manné naa▫o so▫ee jiṇ jaasee aapé saach ḋariṛaa▫iḋaa. ||10||

Whoever believes in the Name, wins; He Himself implants Truth within. ||10||

ਪਲੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥

Palæ saach saché sachi▫aaraa.

The Truest of the True has the Truth is His lap.

ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

Saaché bʱaavæ sabaḋ pi▫aaraa.

The True Lord is pleased with those who love the Shabad.

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਲਾ ਧਰਿ ਥਾਪੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥

Ŧaribʱavaṇ saach kalaa ḋʱar ṫʱaapee saaché hee paṫee▫aa▫iḋaa. ||11||

Exerting His power, the Lord has established Truth throughout the three worlds; with Truth He is pleased. ||11||

ਵਡਾ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥

vadaa vadaa aakʱæ sabʱ ko▫ee.

Everyone calls Him the greatest of the great.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

Gur bin sojʱee kinæ na ho▫ee.

Without the Guru, no one understands Him.

ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਏ ਨਾ ਵੀਛੁੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥

Saach milæ so saaché bʱaa▫é naa veechʱuṛ ḋukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||12||

The True Lord is pleased with those who merge in Truth; they are not separated again, and they do not suffer. ||12||

ਧੁਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਧਾਹੀ ਰੁੰਨੇ ॥

Ḋʱarahu vichʱuné ḋʱaahee runné.

Separated from the Primal Lord, they loudly weep and wail.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਪੁੰਨੇ ॥

Mar mar janmėh muhlaṫ punné.

They die and die, only to be reborn, when their time has passed.

ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮੇਲਿ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥

Jis bakʱsé ṫis ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee mél na pachʱoṫaa▫iḋaa. ||13||

He blesses those whom He forgives with glorious greatness; united with Him, they do not regret or repent. ||13 |

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥

Āpé karṫaa aapé bʱugṫaa.

| He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.

ਆਪੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥

Āpé ṫaripṫaa aapé mukṫaa.

He Himself is satisfied, and He Himself is liberated.

ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੀਸਰੁ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥

Āpé mukaṫ ḋaan mukṫeesar mamṫaa moh chukaa▫iḋaa. ||14||

The Lord of liberation Himself grants liberation; He eradicates possessiveness and attachment. ||14||

ਦਾਨਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

Ḏaanaa kæ sir ḋaan veechaaraa.

I consider Your gifts to be the most wonderful gifts.

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Karaṇ kaaraṇ samraṫʱ apaaraa.

You are the Cause of all causes, Almighty Infinite Lord.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥

Kar kar vékʱæ keeṫaa apṇaa karṇee kaar karaa▫iḋaa. ||15||

Creating the creation, You gaze upon what You have created; You cause all to do their deeds. ||15||

ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥

Sé guṇ gaavahi saaché bʱaavėh.

They alone sing Your Glorious Praises, who are pleasing to You, O True Lord.

ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥

Ŧujʱ ṫé upjahi ṫujʱ maahi samaavėh.

They issue forth from You, and merge again into You.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੪॥

Naanak saach kahæ bénanṫee mil saaché sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||16||2||14||

Nanak offers this true prayer; meeting with the True Lord, peace is obtained. ||16||2||14||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Maaroo mėhlaa 1.

Maaroo, First Mehl:

ਅਰਬਦ ਨਰਬਦ ਧੁੰਧੂਕਾਰਾ ॥

Arbaḋ narbaḋ ḋʱunḋʱookaaraa.

For endless eons, there was only utter darkness.

ਧਰਣਿ ਨ ਗਗਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Ḋʱaraṇ na gagnaa hukam apaaraa.

There was no earth or sky; there was only the infinite Command of His Hukam.

ਨਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਨ ਚੰਦੁ ਨ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥

Naa ḋin ræn na chanḋ na sooraj sunn samaaḋʱ lagaa▫iḋaa. ||1||

There was no day or night, no moon or sun; God sat in primal, profound Samadhi. ||1||

ਖਾਣੀ ਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਉਣ ਨ ਪਾਣੀ ॥

Kʱaaṇee na baṇee pa▫uṇ na paaṇee.

There were no sources of creation or powers of speech, no air or water.

ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

Opaṫ kʱapaṫ na aavaṇ jaaṇee.

There was no creation or destruction, no coming or going.

ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਸਪਤ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਦੀ ਨ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥

Kʱand paṫaal sapaṫ nahee saagar naḋee na neer vahaa▫iḋaa. ||2||

There were no continents, nether regions, seven seas, rivers or flowing water. ||2||

ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥

Naa ṫaḋ surag machʱ pa▫i▫aalaa.

There were no heavenly realms, earth or nether regions of the underworld.

ਦੋਜਕੁ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਖੈ ਕਾਲਾ ॥

Ḏojak bʱisaṫ nahee kʱæ kaalaa.

There was no heaven or hell, no death or time.

ਨਰਕੁ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥

Narak surag nahee jamaṇ marṇaa naa ko aa▫é na jaa▫iḋaa. ||3||

There was no hell or heaven, no birth or death, no coming or going in reincarnation. ||3||

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

Barahmaa bisan mahés na ko▫ee.

There was no Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥

Avar na ḋeesæ éko so▫ee.

No one was seen, except the One Lord.

ਨਾਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਨਮਾ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥

Naar purakʱ nahee jaaṫ na janmaa naa ko ḋukʱ sukʱ paa▫iḋaa. ||4||

There was no female or male, no social class or caste of birth; no one experienced pain or pleasure. ||4||

ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਬਨਵਾਸੀ ॥

Naa ṫaḋ jaṫee saṫee banvaasee.

There were no people of celibacy or charity; no one lived in the forests.

ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ॥

Naa ṫaḋ siḋʱ saaḋʱik sukʱvaasee.

There were no Siddhas or seekers, no one living in peace.

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭੇਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ਕਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥

Jogee jangam bʱékʱ na ko▫ee naa ko naaṫʱ kahaa▫iḋaa. ||5||

There were no Yogis, no wandering pilgrims, no religious robes; no one called himself the master. ||5||

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਨਾ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਪੂਜਾ ॥

Jap ṫap sanjam naa baraṫ poojaa.

There was no chanting or meditation, no self-discipline, fasting or worship.

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਦੂਜਾ ॥

Naa ko aakʱ vakʱaaṇæ ḋoojaa.

No one spoke or talked in duality.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥

Āpé aap upaa▫é vigsæ aapé keemaṫ paa▫iḋaa. ||6||

He created Himself, and rejoiced; He evaluates Himself. ||6||

ਨਾ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਮਾਲਾ ॥

Naa such sanjam ṫulsee maalaa.

There was no purification, no self-restraint, no malas of basil seeds.

ਗੋਪੀ ਕਾਨੁ ਨ ਗਊ ਗੋੁਆਲਾ ॥

Gopee kaan na ga▫oo go▫aalaa.

There were no Gopis, no Krishna, no cows or cowherds.

ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਵੰਸੁ ਵਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥

Ŧanṫ manṫ pakʱand na ko▫ee naa ko vans vajaa▫iḋaa. ||7||

There were no tantras, no mantras and no hypocrisy; no one played the flute. ||7||

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਖੀ ॥

Karam ḋʱaram nahee maa▫i▫aa maakʱee.

There was no karma, no Dharma, no buzzing fly of Maya.

ਜਾਤਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ਆਖੀ ॥

Jaaṫ janam nahee ḋeesæ aakʱee.

Social class and birth were not seen with any eyes.

ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਥੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਕਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੮॥

Mamṫaa jaal kaal nahee maaṫʱæ naa ko kisæ ḋʱi▫aa▫iḋaa. ||8||

There was no noose of attachment, no death inscribed upon the forehead; no one meditated on anything. ||8||

ਨਿੰਦੁ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਜਿੰਦੋ ॥

Ninḋ binḋ nahee jee▫o na jinḋo.

There was no slander, no seed, no soul and no life.

ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਨਾ ਮਾਛਿੰਦੋ ॥

Naa ṫaḋ gorakʱ naa maachʱinḋo.

There was no Gorakh and no Maachhindra.

ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕੁਲ ਓਪਤਿ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥

Naa ṫaḋ gi▫aan ḋʱi▫aan kul opaṫ naa ko gaṇaṫ gaṇaa▫iḋaa. ||9||

There was no spiritual wisdom or meditation, no ancestry or creation, no reckoning of accounts. ||9||

ਵਰਨ ਭੇਖ ਨਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ॥

varan bʱékʱ nahee barahmaṇ kʱaṫree.

There were no castes or social classes, no religious robes, no Brahmin or Kshatriya.
