55 hir jIau sbid pCwxIAY swic rqy gur vwik ] (55-1)har jee-o sabad pachhaanee-ai saach ratay gur vaak. Through the Shabad, they recognize the Dear Lord; through the Guru's Word, they are attuned to Truth. iqqu qin mYlu n lgeI sc Gir ijsu Eqwku ] (55-1)tit tan mail na lag-ee sach ghar jis otaak. Filth does not stick to the body of one who has secured a dwelling in his True Home. ndir kry scu pweIAY ibnu nwvY ikAw swku ]5] (55-2)nadar karay sach paa-ee-ai bin naavai ki-aa saak. ||5|| When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, we obtain the True Name. Without the Name, who are our relatives? ||5|| ijnI scu pCwixAw sy suKIey jug cwir ] (55-2)jinee sach pachhaani-aa say sukhee-ay jug chaar. Those who have realized the Truth are at peace throughout the four ages. haumY iqRsnw mwir kY scu riKAw aur Dwir ] (55-3)ha-umai tarisnaa maar kai sach rakhi-aa ur Dhaar. Subduing their egotism and desires, they keep the True Name enshrined in their hearts. jg mih lwhw eyku nwmu pweIAY gur vIcwir ]6] (55-3)jag meh laahaa ayk naam paa-ee-ai gur veechaar. ||6|| In this world, the only real profit is the Name of the One Lord; it is earned by contemplating the Guru. ||6|| swcau vKru lwdIAY lwBu sdw scu rwis ] (55-4)saacha-o vakhar laadee-ai laabh sadaa sach raas. Loading the Merchandise of the True Name, you shall gather in your profits forever with the Capital of Truth. swcI drgh bYseI Bgiq scI Ardwis ] (55-4)saachee dargeh bais-ee bhagat sachee ardaas. In the Court of the True One, you shall sit in truthful devotion and prayer. piq isau lyKw inbVY rwm nwmu prgwis ]7] (55-5)pat si-o laykhaa nibrhai raam naam pargaas. ||7|| Your account shall be settled with honor, in the Radiant Light of the Name of the Lord. ||7|| aUcw aUcau AwKIAY khau n dyiKAw jwie ] (55-5)oochaa oocha-o aakhee-ai kaha-o na daykhi-aa jaa-ay. The Lord is said to be the Highest of the High; no one can perceive Him. jh dyKw qh eyku qUM siqguir dIAw idKwie ] (55-6)jah daykhaa tah ayk tooN satgur dee-aa dikhaa-ay. Wherever I look, I see only You. Siree Raag, First Mehl: mCulI jwlu n jwixAw sru Kwrw Asgwhu ] (55-7)machhulee jaal na jaani-aa sar khaaraa asgaahu. The fish did not notice the net in the deep and salty sea. Aiq isAwxI sohxI ikau kIqo vyswhu ] (55-7)at si-aanee sohnee ki-o keeto vaysaahu. It was so clever and beautiful, but why was it so confident? kIqy kwrix pwkVI kwlu n tlY isrwhu ]1] (55-8)keetay kaaran paakrhee kaal na talai siraahu. ||1|| By its actions it was caught, and now death cannot be turned away from its head. ||1|| BweI ry ieau isir jwxhu kwlu ] (55-8)bhaa-ee ray i-o sir jaanhu kaal. O Siblings of Destiny, just like this, see death hovering over your own heads! ijau mCI iqau mwxsw pvY AicMqw jwlu ]1] rhwau ] (55-8)ji-o machhee ti-o maansaa pavai achintaa jaal. ||1|| rahaa-o. People are just like this fish; unaware, the noose of death descends upon them. ||1||Pause|| sBu jgu bwDo kwl ko ibnu gur kwlu APwru ] (55-9)sabh jag baaDho kaal ko bin gur kaal afaar. The whole world is bound by death; without the Guru, death cannot be avoided. sic rqy sy aubry duibDw Coif ivkwr ] (55-9)sach ratay say ubray dubiDhaa chhod vikaar. Those who are attuned to Truth are saved; they renounce duality and corruption. hau iqn kY bilhwrxY dir scY sicAwr ]2] (55-10)ha-o tin kai balihaarnai dar sachai sachiaar. ||2|| I am a sacrifice to those who are found to be Truthful in the True Court. ||2|| sIcwny ijau pMKIAw jwlI biDk hwiQ ] (55-10)seechaanay ji-o pankhee-aa jaalee baDhik haath. Think of the hawk preying on the birds, and the net in the hands of the hunter. guir rwKy sy aubry hoir PwQy cogY swiQ ] (55-11)gur raakhay say ubray hor faathay chogai saath. Those who are protected by the Guru are saved; the others are caught by the bait. ibnu nwvY cuix sutIAih koie n sMgI swiQ ]3] (55-11)bin naavai chun sutee-ah ko-ay na sangee saath. ||3|| Without the Name, they are picked up and thrown away; they have no friends or companions. ||3|| sco scw AwKIAY scy scw Qwnu ] (55-12)sacho sachaa aakhee-ai sachay sachaa thaan. God is said to be the Truest of the True; His Place is the Truest of the True. ijnI scw mMinAw iqn min scu iDAwnu ] (55-12)jinee sachaa mani-aa tin man sach Dhi-aan. Those who obey the True One-their minds abide in true meditation. min muiK sUcy jwxIAih gurmuiK ijnw igAwnu ]4] (55-12)man mukh soochay jaanee-ahi gurmukh jinaa gi-aan. ||4|| Those who become Gurmukh, and obtain spiritual wisdom-their minds and mouths are known to be pure. ||4|| siqgur AgY Ardwis kir swjnu dyie imlwie ] (55-13)satgur agai ardaas kar saajan day-ay milaa-ay. Offer your most sincere prayers to the True Guru, so that He may unite you with your Best Friend. swjin imilAY suKu pwieAw jmdUq muey ibKu Kwie ] (55-14)saajan mili-ai sukh paa-i-aa jamdoot mu-ay bikh khaa-ay. Meeting your Best Friend, you shall find peace; the Messenger of Death shall take poison and die. nwvY AMdir hau vsW nwau vsY min Awie ]5] (55-14)naavai andar ha-o vasaaN naa-o vasai man aa-ay. ||5|| I dwell deep within the Name; the Name has come to dwell within my mind. ||5|| bwJu gurU gubwru hY ibnu sbdY bUJ n pwie ] (55-15)baajh guroo gubaar hai bin sabdai boojh na paa-ay. Without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness; without the Shabad, understanding is not obtained. gurmqI prgwsu hoie sic rhY ilv lwie ] (55-15)gurmatee pargaas ho-ay sach rahai liv laa-ay. Through the Guru's Teachings, you shall be enlightened; remain absorbed in the Love of the True Lord. iqQY kwlu n sMcrY joqI joiq smwie ]6] (55-16)tithai kaal na sanchrai jotee jot samaa-ay. ||6|| Death does not go there; your light shall merge with the Light. ||6|| qUMhY swjnu qUM sujwxu qUM Awpy mylxhwru ] (55-16)tooNhai saajan tooN sujaan tooN aapay maylanhaar. You are my Best Friend; You are All-knowing. You are the One who unites us with Yourself. gur sbdI swlwhIAY AMqu n pwrwvwru ] (55-16)gur sabdee salaahee-ai ant na paaraavaar. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we praise You; You have no end or limitation. iqQY kwlu n ApVY ijQY gur kw sbdu Apwru ]7] (55-17)tithai kaal na aprhai jithai gur kaa sabad apaar. ||7|| Death does not reach that place, where the Infinite Word of the Guru's Shabad resounds. ||7|| hukmI sBy aUpjih hukmI kwr kmwih ] (55-17)hukmee sabhay oopjahi hukmee kaar kamaahi. By the Hukam of His Command, all are created. By His Command, actions are performed. hukmI kwlY vis hY hukmI swic smwih ] (55-18)hukmee kaalai vas hai hukmee saach samaahi. By His Command, all are subject to death; by His Command, they merge in Truth. nwnk jo iqsu BwvY so QIAY ienw jMqw vis ikCu nwih ]8]4] (55-18)naanak jo tis bhaavai so thee-ai inaa jantaa vas kichh naahi. ||8||4|| O Nanak, whatever pleases His Will comes to pass.
