ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇ ॥

Bin naavæ sabʰ ḋukʰ hæ ḋukʰ▫ḋaa▫ee moh maa▫é.

Without the Lord’s Name, all is pain. Attachment to Maya is agonizingly painful.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੭॥

Naanak gurmukʰ naḋree aa▫i▫aa moh maa▫i▫aa vichʰuṛ sabʰ jaa▫é. ||17||

O Nanak! The Gurmukh comes to see that attachment to Maya separates all from the Lord. ||17||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਹ ਕੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Gurmukʰ hukam manné sah kéraa hukmé hee sukʰ paa▫é.

The Gurmukh obeys the Order of her Husband Lord God; through the Hukam of His Command, she finds peace.

ਹੁਕਮੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਮੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

Hukmo sévé hukam araaḋʰé hukmé samæ samaa▫é.

In His Will, she serves; in His Will, she worships and adores Him.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Hukam varaṫ ném such sanjam man chinḋi▫aa fal paa▫é.

In His Will, she merges in absorption. His Will is her fast, vow, purity and self-discipline; through it, she obtains the fruits of her mind’s desires.

ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਜਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

Saḋaa suhaagaṇ jė hukmæ bujʰæ saṫgur sévæ liv laa▫é.

She is always and forever the happy, pure soul-bride, who realizes His Will; she serves the True Guru, inspired by loving absorption.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧੮॥

Naanak kirpaa karé jin oopar ṫinaa hukmé la▫é milaa▫é. ||18||

O Nanak! Those upon whom the Lord showers His Mercy, are merged and immersed in His Will. ||18||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੇ ਬਪੁੜੀ ਨਿਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

Manmukʰ hukam na bujʰé bapuṛee niṫ ha▫umæ karam kamaa▫é.

The wretched, self-willed Manmukhs do not realize His Will; they continually act in ego.

ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮੁ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

varaṫ ném such sanjam poojaa pakʰand bʰaram na jaa▫é.

By ritualistic fasts, vows, purities, self-disciplines and worship ceremonies, they still cannot get rid of their hypocrisy and doubt.

ਅੰਤਰਹੁ ਕੁਸੁਧੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬੇਧੇ ਜਿਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਛਾਰੁ ਉਡਾਏ ॥

Anṫrahu kusuḋʰ maa▫i▫aa mohi béḋʰé ji▫o hasṫee chʰaar udaa▫é.

Inwardly, they are impure, pierced through by attachment to Maya; they are like elephants, who throw dirt all over themselves right after their bath.

ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

Jin upaa▫é ṫisæ na cheeṫėh bin chéṫé ki▫o sukʰ paa▫é.

They do not even think of the One who created them. Without thinking of Him, they cannot find peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਏ ॥੧੯॥

Naanak parpanch kee▫aa ḋʰur karṫæ poorab likʰi▫aa kamaa▫é. ||19||

O Nanak! The Primal Creator has made the drama of the Universe; all act as they are preordained. ||19||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਭਈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Gurmukʰ parṫeeṫ bʰa▫ee man maani▫aa an▫ḋin sévaa karaṫ samaa▫é.

The Gurmukh has faith; his mind is contented and satisfied. Night and day, he serves the Lord, absorbed in Him.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਪੂਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਆਇ ॥

Anṫar saṫgur guroo sabʰ poojé saṫgur kaa ḋaras ḋékʰæ sabʰ aa▫é.

The Guru, the True Guru, is within; all worship and adore Him. Everyone comes to see the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.

ਮੰਨੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥

Mannee▫æ saṫgur param beechaaree jiṫ mili▫æ ṫisnaa bʰukʰ sabʰ jaa▫é.

So, believe in the True Guru, the supreme sublime Contemplator. Meeting with Him, hunger and thirst are completely relieved.

ਹਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

Ha▫o saḋaa saḋaa balihaaree gur apuné jo parabʰ sachaa ḋé▫é milaa▫é.

I am forever a sacrifice to my Guru, who leads me to meet the True Lord God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਚਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗੇ ਆਇ ॥੨੦॥

Naanak karam paa▫i▫aa ṫin sachaa jo gur charṇee lagé aa▫é. ||20||

O Nanak! Those who come and fall at the Feet of the Guru are blessed with the karma of Truth. ||20||

ਜਿਨ ਪਿਰੀਆ ਸਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਸੇ ਸਜਣ ਮੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

Jin piree▫aa sa▫o néhu sé sajaṇ mæ naal.

That Beloved, with whom I am in love, that Friend of mine is with me.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਾਂ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨੧॥

Anṫar baahar ha▫o firaaⁿ bʰee hirḋæ rakʰaa samaal. ||21||

I wander around inside and outside, but I always keep Him enshrined within my heart. ||21||

ਜਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥

Jinaa ik man ik chiṫ ḋʰi▫aa▫i▫aa saṫgur sa▫o chiṫ laa▫é.

Those who meditate on the Lord single-mindedly, with one-pointed concentration, link their consciousness to the True Guru.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਿਰਦੋਖ ਭਏ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

Ṫin kee ḋukʰ bʰukʰ ha▫umæ vadaa rog ga▫i▫aa nirḋokʰ bʰa▫é liv laa▫é.

They are rid of pain, hunger, and the great illness of egotism; lovingly attuned to the Lord, they become free of pain.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਵੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Guṇ gaavahi guṇ uchrahi guṇ mėh savæ samaa▫é.

They sing His Praises, and chant His Praises; in His Glorious Praises, they sleep in absorption.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥੨੨॥

Naanak gur pooré ṫé paa▫i▫aa sahj mili▫aa parabʰ aa▫é. ||22||

O Nanak! Through the Perfect Guru, they come to meet God with intuitive peace and poise. ||22||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

Manmukʰ maa▫i▫aa moh hæ naam na lagæ pi▫aar.

The self-willed Manmukhs are emotionally attached to Maya; they are not in love with the Naam.

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੰਘਰੈ ਕੂੜਿ ਕਰੈ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥

Kooṛ kamaavæ kooṛ sangʰræ kooṛ karæ aahaar.

They practice falsehood, gather falsehood, and eat the food of falsehood.

ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥

Bikʰ maa▫i▫aa ḋʰan sanch marėh anṫ ho▫é sabʰ chʰaar.

Gathering the poisonous wealth and property of Maya, they die; in the end, they are all reduced to ashes.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥

Karam ḋʰaram such sanjam karahi anṫar lobʰ vikaar.

They perform religious rituals of purity and self-discipline, but they are filled with greed, evil and corruption.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨੩॥

Naanak manmukʰ jė kamaavæ so ṫʰaa▫é na pavæ ḋargėh ho▫é kʰu▫aar. ||23||

O Nanak! The actions of the self-willed Manmukhs are not accepted; in the Court of the Lord, they are miserable. ||23||

ਸਭਨਾ ਰਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੋ ਭਲਾ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

Sabʰnaa raagaaⁿ vich so bʰalaa bʰaa▫ee jiṫ vasi▫aa man aa▫é.

Among all Ragas, that one is sublime, O Siblings of Destiny, by which the Lord comes to abide in the mind.

ਰਾਗੁ ਨਾਦੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

Raag naaḋ sabʰ sach hæ keemaṫ kahee na jaa▫é.

Those Ragas which are in the Sound-current of the Naad are totally true; their value cannot be expressed.

ਰਾਗੈ ਨਾਦੈ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਇਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

Raagæ naaḋæ baahraa inee hukam na boojʰi▫aa jaa▫é.

Those Ragas which are not in the Sound-current of the Naad - by these, the Lord’s Will cannot be understood.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਨਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

Naanak hukmæ boojʰæ ṫinaa raas ho▫é saṫgur ṫé sojʰee paa▫é.

O Nanak! They alone are right, who understand the Will of the True Guru.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਦੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨੪॥

Sabʰ kichʰ ṫis ṫé ho▫i▫aa ji▫o ṫisæ ḋee rajaa▫é. ||24||

Everything happens as He wills. ||24||
