ਭਗਤਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

Bʱagṫaa mukʱ amriṫ hæ baṇee.

The Ambrosial Nectar of the Guru’s Bani is in the mouth of the devotees.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥

Gurmukʱ har naam aakʱ vakʱaaṇee.

The Gurmukhs chant and repeat the Lord’s Name.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥

Har har karaṫ saḋaa man bigsæ har charṇee man laa▫ee hé. ||13||

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, their minds forever blossom forth; they focus their minds on the Lord’s Feet. ||13||

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

Ham moorakʱ agi▫aan gi▫aan kichʱ naahee.

I am foolish and ignorant; I have no wisdom at all.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਪੜੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

Saṫgur ṫé samajʱ paṛee man maahee.

From the True Guru, I have obtained understanding in my mind.

ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥

Hohu ḋa▫i▫aal kirpaa kar har jee▫o saṫgur kee sévaa laa▫ee hé. ||14||

O Dear Lord, please be kind to me, and grant Your Grace; let me be committed to serving the True Guru. ||14||

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥

Jin saṫgur jaaṫaa ṫin ék pachʱaaṫaa.

Those who know the True Guru realize the One Lord.

ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

Sarbé rav rahi▫aa sukʱ▫ḋaaṫa.

The Giver of peace is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.

ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥

Aaṫam cheen param paḋ paa▫i▫aa sévaa suraṫ samaa▫ee hé. ||15||

Understanding my own soul, I have obtained the supreme-status; my awareness is immersed in selfless service. ||15||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਦਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

Jin ka▫o aaḋ milee vadi▫aa▫ee.

Those who are blessed with glorious greatness by the Primal Lord God

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥

Saṫgur man vasi▫aa liv laa▫ee.

are lovingly focused on the True Guru, who dwells within their minds.

ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥

Aap mili▫aa jagjeevan ḋaaṫaa Naanak ank samaa▫ee hé. ||16||1||

The Giver of life to the world Himself meets them; O Nanak! They are absorbed in His Being. ||16||1||

Maaroo mėhlaa 4.

Maaroo, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

Har agam agochar saḋaa abʱinaasee.

The Lord is inaccessible and unfathomable; He is eternal and imperishable.

ਸਰਬੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ॥

Sarbé rav rahi▫aa gʱat vaasee.

He dwells in the heart, and is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

Ṫis bin avar na ko▫ee ḋaaṫaa har ṫisėh sarévhu paraaṇee hé. ||1||

There is no other Giver except Him; worship the Lord, O mortals. ||1||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Jaa ka▫o raakʱæ har raakʱaṇhaaraa.

The one who is saved by the Savior Lord,

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਾਕਸਿ ਮਾਰਾ ॥

Ṫaa ka▫o ko▫é na saakas maaraa.

to him no one can kill.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

So æsaa har sévhu sanṫahu jaa kee ooṫam baṇee hé. ||2||

So, serve such a Lord, O Saints, whose Bani is exalted and sublime. ||2||

ਜਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

Jaa jaapæ kichʱ kiṫʱaa▫oo naahee.

When it seems that a place is empty and void,

ਤਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥

Ṫaa karṫaa bʱarpoor samaahee.

there, the Creator Lord is permeating and pervading.

ਸੂਕੇ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

Sooké ṫé fun hari▫aa keeṫon har ḋʱi▫aavahu choj vidaaṇee hé. ||3||

He causes the dried-up branch to blossom forth in greenery again; so meditate on the Lord - wondrous are His ways! ||3||

ਜੋ ਜੀਆ ਕੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Jo jee▫aa kee véḋan jaaṇæ.

The One who knows the anguish of all beings -

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ॥

Ṫis saahib kæ ha▫o kurbaaṇæ.

unto that Lord and Master, I am a sacrifice.

ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

Ṫis aagæ jan kar bénanṫee jo sarab sukʱaa kaa ḋaaṇee hé. ||4||

Offer your prayers to the One who is the Giver of all peace and joy. ||4||

ਜੋ ਜੀਐ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

Jo jee▫æ kee saar na jaaṇæ.

But one who does not know the state of the soul -

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੀਐ ਅਜਾਣੈ ॥

Ṫis si▫o kichʱ na kahee▫æ ajaaṇæ.

do not say anything to such an ignorant person.

ਮੂਰਖ ਸਿਉ ਨਹ ਲੂਝੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

Moorakʱ si▫o nah loojʱ paraaṇee har japee▫æ paḋ nirbaaṇee hé. ||5||

Do not argue with fools, O mortals. Meditate on the Lord, in the state of Nirvana. ||5||

ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਰਤੇ ॥

Naa kar chinṫ chinṫaa hæ karṫé.

don’t worry - let the Creator take care of it.

ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਸਭਤੈ ॥

Har ḋévæ jal ṫʱal janṫaa sabʱ▫ṫæ.

The Lord gives to all creatures in the water and on the land.

ਅਚਿੰਤ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਟ ਪਖਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥

Achinṫ ḋaan ḋé▫é parabʱ méraa vich paaṫʱar keet pakʱaaṇee hé. ||6||

My God bestows His blessings without being asked, even to worms in soil and stones. ||6||

ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ॥

Naa kar aas meeṫ suṫ bʱaa▫ee.

Do not place your hopes in friends, children and siblings.

ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਕਿਸੈ ਸਾਹ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਾਈ ॥

Naa kar aas kisæ saah bi▫uhaar kee paraa▫ee.

Do not place your hopes in kings or the business of others.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥

Bin har naavæ ko bélee naahee har japee▫æ saarangpaaṇee hé. ||7||

Without the Lord’s Name, no one will be your helper; so meditate on the Lord, the Lord of the world. ||7||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥

An▫ḋin naam japahu banvaaree.

Night and day, chant the Naam.

ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਥਾਰੀ ॥

Sabʱ aasaa mansaa pooræ ṫʱaaree.

All your hopes and desires shall be fulfilled.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

Jan Naanak naam japahu bʱav kʱandan sukʱ sėhjé ræṇ vihaaṇee hé. ||8||

O servant Nanak! Chant the Naam, the Name of the Destroyer of fear, and your life-night shall pass in intuitive peace and poise. ||8||

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Jin har sévi▫aa ṫin sukʱ paa▫i▫aa.

Those who serve the Lord find peace.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

Sėhjé hee har naam samaa▫i▫aa.

They are intuitively absorbed in the Lord’s Name.

ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਾਇ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥

Jo saraṇ paræ ṫis kee paṫ raakʱæ jaa▫é poochʱahu véḋ puraaṇee hé. ||9||

The Lord preserves the honor of those who seek His Sanctuary; go and consult the Vedas and the Puranas. ||9||

ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

Jis har sévaa laa▫é so▫ee jan laagæ.

That humble being is attached to the Lord’s service, whom the Lord so attaches.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥

Gur kæ sabaḋ bʱaram bʱa▫o bʱaagæ.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, doubt and fear are dispelled.

ਵਿਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਮਲੁ ਰਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥

viché garih saḋaa rahæ uḋaasee ji▫o kamal rahæ vich paaṇee hé. ||10||

In his own home, he remains unattached, like the lotus flower in the water. ||10||

ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੇਵਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

vich ha▫umæ sévaa ṫʱaa▫é na paa▫é.

One who serves in egotism is not accepted or approved.
