ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

Pooræ gur sabʱ sojʱee paa▫ee.

Through the Perfect Guru, all this is known.

ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥

Naamo naam ḋʱi▫aa▫ee▫æ saḋaa saḋ ih man naamé raaṫaa hé. ||12||

I meditate forever and ever on the Naam; this mind is imbued with the Naam. ||12||

ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥

Naamé raaṫaa paviṫ sareeraa.

Imbued with the Naam, the body is sanctified.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰਾ ॥

Bin naavæ doob mu▫é bin neeraa.

Without the Naam, they drown and die without water.

ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥

Āvahi jaavėh naam nahee boojʱėh iknaa gurmukʱ sabaḋ pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||13||

They come and go, but do not understand the Naam. Some, as Gurmukh, realize the Word of the Shabad. ||13||

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥

Pooræ saṫgur boojʱ bujʱaa▫ee.

The Perfect True Guru has imparted this understanding.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

viṇ naavæ mukaṫ kinæ na paa▫ee.

Without the Name, no one attains liberation.

ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥

Naamé naam milæ vadi▫aa▫ee sahj rahæ rang raaṫaa hé. ||14||

Through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is blessed with glorious greatness; he remains intuitively attuned to the Lord’s Love. ||14||

ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਢਹੈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ॥

Kaa▫i▫aa nagar dʱahæ dʱėh dʱéree.

The body-village crumbles and collapses into a pile of dust.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਨਹੀ ਫੇਰੀ ॥

Bin sabḋæ chookæ nahee féree.

Without the Shabad, the cycle of reincarnation is not brought to an end.

ਸਾਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥

Saach salaahé saach samaavæ jin gurmukʱ éko jaaṫaa hé. ||15||

One who knows the One Lord, through the True Guru, praises the True Lord, and remains immersed in the True Lord. ||15||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥

Jis no naḋar karé so paa▫é.

When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace,

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥

Saachaa sabaḋ vasæ man aa▫é.

the True Word of the Shabad comes to dwell in the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੮॥

Naanak naam raṫé nirankaaree ḋar saachæ saach pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||16||8||

O Nanak! Those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord, realize the True Lord in His True Court. ||16||8||

ਮਾਰੂ ਸੋਲਹੇ ੩ ॥

Maaroo, Solhay, Third Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ॥

Āpé karṫaa sabʱ jis karṇaa.

O Creator, it is You Yourself who does all.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥

Jee▫a janṫ sabʱ ṫéree sarṇaa.

All beings and creatures are under Your Protection.

ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

Āpé gupaṫ varṫæ sabʱ anṫar gur kæ sabaḋ pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||1||

You are hidden, and yet permeating within all; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, You are realized. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

Har ké bʱagaṫ bʱaré bʱandaaraa.

Devotion to the Lord is a treasure overflowing.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

Āpé bakʱsé sabaḋ veechaaraa.

He Himself blesses us with contemplative meditation on the Shabad.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

Jo ṫuḋʱ bʱaavæ so▫ee karsėh saché si▫o man raaṫaa hé. ||2||

You do whatever You please; my mind is attuned to the True Lord. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲੋ ॥

Āpé heeraa raṫan amolo.

You Yourself are the priceless diamond and jewel.

ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲੋ ॥

Āpé naḋree ṫolé ṫolo.

In Your Mercy, You weigh with Your scale.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

Jee▫a janṫ sabʱ saraṇ ṫumaaree kar kirpaa aap pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||3||

All beings and creatures are under Your protection. One who is blessed by Your Grace realizes his own self. ||3||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥

Jis no naḋar hovæ ḋʱur ṫéree.

One who receives Your Mercy, O Primal Lord,

ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥

Maræ na jammæ chookæ féree.

does not die, and is not reborn; he is released from the cycle of reincarnation.

ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

Saaché guṇ gaavæ ḋin raaṫee jug jug éko jaaṫaa hé. ||4||

He sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, day and night, and, throughout the ages, he knows the One Lord. ||4||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa mohi sabʱ jagaṫ upaa▫i▫aa.

Emotional attachment to Maya wells up throughout the whole world,

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਦੇਵ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥

Barahmaa bisan ḋév sabaa▫i▫aa.

from Brahma, Vishnu and all the demi-gods.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

Jo ṫuḋʱ bʱaaṇé sé naam laagé gi▫aan maṫee pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||5||

Those who are pleasing to Your Will, are attached to the Naam; through spiritual wisdom and understanding, You are recognized. ||5||

ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

Paap punn varṫæ sansaaraa.

The world is engrossed in vice and virtue.

ਹਰਖੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥

Harakʱ sog sabʱ ḋukʱ hæ bʱaaraa.

Happiness and misery are totally loaded with pain.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥

Gurmukʱ hovæ so sukʱ paa▫é jin gurmukʱ naam pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||6||

One who becomes Gurmukh finds peace; such a Gurmukh recognizes the Naam. ||6||

ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Kiraṫ na ko▫ee métaṇhaaraa.

No one can erase the record of one’s actions.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥

Gur kæ sabḋé mokʱ ḋu▫aaraa.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one finds the door of salvation.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥

Poorab likʱi▫aa so fal paa▫i▫aa jin aap maar pachʱaaṫaa hé. ||7||

One who conquers self-conceit and recognizes the Lord, obtains the fruits of his predestined rewards. ||7||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

Maa▫i▫aa mohi har si▫o chiṫ na laagæ.

Emotionally attached to Maya, one’s consciousness is not attached to the Lord.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥

Ḏoojæ bʱaa▫é gʱaṇaa ḋukʱ aagæ.

In the love of duality, he will suffer terrible agony in the world hereafter.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

Manmukʱ bʱaram bʱulé bʱékʱ▫ḋʱaaree anṫ kaal pachʱuṫaaṫaa hé. ||8||

The hypocritical, self-willed Manmukhs are deluded by doubt; at the very last moment, they regret and repent. ||8||

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥

Har kæ bʱaaṇæ har guṇ gaa▫é.

In accordance with the Lord’s Will, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥

Sabʱ kilbikʱ kaaté ḋookʱ sabaa▫é.

He is rid of all sins, and all suffering.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥

Har nirmal nirmal hæ baṇee har séṫee man raaṫaa hé. ||9||

The Lord is immaculate, and immaculate is the Word of His Bani. My mind is imbued with the Lord. ||9||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

Jis no naḋar karé so guṇ niḋʱ paa▫é.

One who is blessed with the Lord’s Glance of Grace, obtains the Lord, the treasure of virtue.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥

Ha▫umæ méraa tʱaak rahaa▫é.

Egotism and possessiveness are brought to an end.

ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥

Guṇ avgaṇ kaa éko ḋaaṫaa gurmukʱ virlee jaaṫaa hé. ||10||

The One Lord is the only Giver of virtue and vice, merits and demerits; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand this. ||10||

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Méraa parabʱ nirmal aṫ apaaraa.

My God is immaculate, and utterly infinite.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

Āpé mélæ gur sabaḋ veechaaraa.

God unites with Himself, through contemplation of the Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥

Āpé bakʱsé sach driṛ▫aa▫é man ṫan saachæ raaṫaa hé. ||11||

He Himself forgives, and implants the Truth. The mind and body are then attuned to the True Lord. ||11||
